About the Show
Donkey Hodie is a new puppet series for children ages 3-5 from Fred Rogers Productions and Spiffy Pictures. Inspired by the funny, quirky side of children’s TV pioneer Fred Rogers, this imaginative series follows the adventures of Donkey Hodie, the granddaughter of the original Donkey Hodie character from Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.
Every episode is set in the land of Someplace Else, where Donkey Hodie and her pals empower preschoolers to dream big and overcome obstacles, to work hard and persevere, to be resourceful and discover they can solve problems on their own – and to laugh themselves silly along the way!
Donkey Hodie will feature new original music along with reimagined versions of Fred’s iconic songs to reinforce and underscore each story’s positive message.
Meet the Characters
Donkey Hodie wakes up each morning with her ears and magenta mane perked up, her eyes wide open, and her determination dialed up to an 11. She’s a curious, sincere, resilient, and charming young go-getter who is beloved by her neighbors in Someplace Else because she is something else. She often bursts out of her windmill with a fresh goal for the day and a hee-haw!
Purple Panda came to Someplace Else in his spaceship from Planet Purple. He thinks his best pal Donkey Hodie is the smartest, most clever donkey in the whole wide universe, so he will hop onboard for any and all of her adventures. Donkey leans on Panda for unwavering encouragement, purple problem solving, and a good laugh.
Duck Duck is super curious about…everything! She’s a practical, precocious, and quick-witted young mallard who loves a good plan. Yep, yep! She also loves books. She’ll often pull one out to look for answers while solving problems with her best pals.
Bob Dog is an energetic, eager dog with an impressive collection of balls. In fact, he lives in a giant tennis ball! A loyal friend with a big heart, he’s always ready for the bow-wowiest of Donkey’s plans. When any of his pals needs something, he’s the first to fetch it.
Grampy Hodie is the most beloved resident of Someplace Else, and he adores his granddaughter Donkey. He encourages his “Donkaroo” to take risks and be brave and inspires her to forge ahead even when things get tough. Grampy founded Someplace Else years ago, and Donkey now lives in the windmill he first built there.
Donkey Hodie is inspired by the quirky, funny side of Fred Rogers and grounded in his mission to help young viewers navigate the frustrations and challenges of childhood.
The original Donkey Hodie character appeared in 59 episodes of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood from 1968-1993. He founded the land of Someplace Else when King Friday ordered him to leave the Neighborhood of Make-Believe and build his windmill “someplace else.”
Fred once asked viewers:
Do you ever feel that you need to find ‘someplace else’ to play sometimes? When somebody says to you, “You’re making too much noise!” You don’t just have to stop everything. No. You do something else. Or you find ‘someplace else’ to do it.
From 1968-2001, the Neighborhood of Make-Believe featured an eclectic mix of nearly 120 characters who captivated children with their eccentric personalities, whimsical plotlines, and poignant life lessons. Young viewers will meet reimagined versions of old characters and brand new neighbors in Donkey Hodie.
