Space Plants

Space exploration is getting easier because of new designs and technology. For example, an astronaut can live in space for a whole year on the International Space Station! While they are living in space, the astronauts need to stay healthy, just as we do. One way they do that is by eating healthy foods, like vegetables. Unfortunately, it's been really hard to grow plants in space - until now! NASA engineers are prototyping a greenhouse with sunlight and temperature, just like Earth's. The design for the greenhouse includes LED lights, expandable walls, and water pipes. 

Building this greenhouse in space would let astronauts grow their own food. Eating all those vegetables will keep them healthy, even when they travel to places without plant life, like Mars or the Moon.
