Some people need surgeries to feel better, but surgeries can sometimes be scary. 9-year-old Charlotte Gould has needed a few surgeries since she was baby, so she wanted to find a way to help other kids needing surgery. She realized she could use her love of sewing to design handmade dolls for children who feel nervous at the hospital. Charlotte founded her own company called Stitches by Charlotte, and she has given 150 dolls to children all over the world!
Charlotte began making dolls two years ago when her grandma gave her a sewing machine for Christmas. She created her first doll from her old baby clothes, and added a scar over the doll's lip to match her own scar from surgery. So many people liked her doll that she started sewing custom dolls for other kids! She understood that it helped kids going through surgery to see their doll with a scar just like them. Charlotte hopes that one day she can sell these dolls at hospitals, and include a kid-friendly needle, thread, and instructions for how to make the doll their own.
