Bats make us think of vampires, haunted houses, and all things spooky. But they aren't the scary creatures we see in television shows and movies. In reality, bats are happy to leave us alone and spend their nights hunting for their favorite meal...delicious insects! They can eat up to 1,000 insects per hour. That means less pesky bugs, like mosquitos, to bother you. So is it possible for us to work together with bats instead of fearing them? Christopher Rannefors and Harrison Broadhurst, the founders of BatBnB, think it is! And they've created a bat house that anyone with a bug problem will love.
Both Christopher and Harrison were taught to respect bats when they were kids. They learned that bats' habitats were in danger due to climate change, cutting down trees, and their scary reputation. Christopher and Harrison set out to design a safe and comfortable space for bats to live and raise their pups. Their biggest challenge was making bats more interesting to people that were taught to fear them. They partnered with a bat expert to promote the benefits of bats, and focused on creating a beautiful design that people would want to display on their homes. They hope people can learn to live in harmony with bats, while benefiting from their natural pest control!
