The Silly Detective

Detective
Ms. Jones
Secretary
PROPS/COSTUMES:
Desk;chair;sign that says "Out For Lunch";sign that says "Gone Fishing";Costumes: Detective trench coat and hat.

SETTING: Detective's office.

Detective:
(Detective working at her desk.)

Work. Work! This is all I have done for the past two months! Paper work for my lawyer! Why doesn't any one walk through my door except my secretary?

Secretary:
(Secretary walks through the door.)

Uh, Ma'am? - Uh, ma'am?

Detective:
WHAT?

Secretary:
Um the sign on the-

Detective:
Don't bother me! I'm busy!

Secretary:
But the sign on the-

Detective:
I'm busy!

Secretary:
Yes, ma'am.

(Secretary walks away and sits in a chair in the office.)

Detective:
Don't just sit there, get busy!

Secretary:
But there has been no work for me since there hasn't been a case!

Detective:
You're right. Why hasn't anyone needed me to solve their cases?

Secretary:
Because the sign on the-

Detective:
I'm going to call my friend, Ms. Jones.

(Secretary sighs. Detective dials Ms. Jones.)

Detective:
Hello?...Yes!...Could you come to my office?...Second floor, Three doors to the right...yes!

(Knock on the door. Detective answers.)

Detective:
Ms. Jones!

(Ms. Jones enters.)

Ms. Jones:
Did you know your sign-

Detective:
Come in! Sit down! Were you saying something?

Ms. Jones:
Yes. Your sign is-

Detective:
(Holds out a pencil.)

Pencil?

Ms. Jones:
Yes! Thank you! As I was saying, the sign on the door-

Detective:
Is that a new tie?

Ms. Jones:
(Yelling.)

COME LOOK AT THE SIGN ON YOUR DOOR! DID YOU KNOW THAT THE SIGN ON YOUR DOOR SAYS OUT TO LUNCH? Yes, it is a new tie.

Detective:
(Slaps her own forehead.)

So THAT'S why I haven't had a case in months! Let's celebrate this good news and go out for lunch!

(As Detective leaves, she flips the sign on the door. It reads "Gone Fishing.")
