(In Ubbi Dubbi to Arnold)

Oh, I know. I think this is a waste of time.

(In Ubbi Dubbi to Lenny)

She has no clue what we're doing.

Lenny:
(In Ubbi Dubbi to Arnold)

Oh no, here she comes!

Miss Applebee:
Excuse me! Arnold, Lenny, is what you have to say is more important than what I have to say?

(Lenny and Arnold quiet down.)

Miss Applebee:
That's better. Now we all know the basics of logarithms but now we're going to start talking about...

Arnold Arbudis:
(In Ubbi Dubbi to Lenny)

I'm so sick of math class! When is it over?

Lenny :
(In Ubbi Dubbi to Arnold)

Yeah I know. Fractions, square roots....

Miss Applebee:
Excuse me boys! Perhaps what you're saying IS more important. Why don't you share it with the rest of the class?

Arnold Arbudis:
(In Ubbi Dubbi)

Well, I was just telling Lenny that...

Miss Applebee:
That's enough. I don't want to hear any more of this nonsense.

Arnold Arbudis:
It's not nonsense; it's Ubbi Dubbi.

Miss Applebee:
And where did you learn this Ubbin Flubbi?

Arnold Arbudis:
My Mom taught me and her Mom taught her, and her mom.

Miss Applebee:
Okay, I get it!! Well, tonight for your punishment you will have to write a 500 word essay on the origin of uboley dubo, and it's due tomorrow!

Arnold & Lenny :
(In Ubbi Dubbi)

But, but...

Miss Applebee:
Would you two like to see the principal?

Arnold Arbudis:
(In Ubbi Dubbi)

No Mi...

(Arnold stops short and catches himself.)

Arnold Arbudis :
(In English)

I mean no, Miss Applebee.

SETTING: Scene Two: Arnold's House

Mom:
Hey Arnold, how was school today?

Arnold Arbudis:
Terrible. I got in deep trouble in class today for talking Ubbi Dubbi and now I have to write a 500 word essay on how it got started. Can you help me?

Mom :
Well I'm not sure honey. I don't know how it came to be, my mother taught it to me, and her mother taught it to her, and her mother taught it to her and so on...

Arnold Arbudis:
Mom what am I going to do, it's due tomorrow?

Mom :
I'm trying to remember now, I think your great great grandmother, Ethel Arbutis, might have been one of the first speakers of Ubbi Dubbi

(The room gets very cold. )

Goodness gracious, it's freezing in here.

Arnold Arbudis:
This is wierd. I think I'll go get a sweater...

SETTING: Scene Three: Sweater Closet.

Man, it's even colder in here! I better get a sweater.

(There is a picture of Ethel Arbutis hanging on the door of the closet. The photograph starts to glow unnaturally. Arnold doesn't notice the glow and opens the door of the closet and gets sucked into the closet. He's been pulled into a time warp.)

SETTING: Scene Four: The ZOOM Set 2004

(Arnold lands into the ZOOM set where the kids are taping a dance segment. Arnold's arrival has obviously ruined the shot, and the Director steps in.)

Director:
Cut, cut, extra body on the set. Everyone take five, then we'll start from the top,

(staring pointedly at Arnold )

with no more interruptions, please?

ZOOMer 1:
That's a really cool costume, what show are you from?

Arnold Arbudis:
I'm not from any show. Where am I???

ZOOMer 2:
You're on the set of ZOOM, where did you think you were?

Arnold Arbudis:
Well, I thought I was going into my closet to get a sweater, and now I'm here.

ZOOMer 3:

Arnold Arbudis:
Where am I again?

ZOOMer 2:
You are on the set of that fabulous PBS kids' show ZOOM. Do you think you hit your head?

Arnold Arbudis:
(Rubbing his head)

I don't think I did. So, what is this, ZOOM thing?

ZOOMer 3:
You've never heard of ZOOM? It's a TV show, lots of kids watch it.

Arnold Arbudis:
I've never heard of it. What do you do on the show?

ZOOMer 5:
We do lots of stuff, science projects, we play games, we speak Ubbi Dubbi, we..

Arnold Arbudis:
You guys speak Ubbi Dubbi?

ZOOMer 2 :
(In ubbi dubbi)

Of course we do.

(back in regular English )

It was invented on this show.

Arnold Arbudis:
I've been trying to find out where Ubbi Dubbi got started! I got in trouble for speaking it in school. My mother learned it from her mother, who was my grandmother, and she learned it

ZOOMer 6:
Wait a minute, your grandmother? Hold up, what's your name?

My name is Arnold Arbutis.

ZOOMer 1:
(All the ZOOMers look at ZOOMer 1 )

that's my last name. Maybe we're related!

Arnold Arbudis:
What's your first name?

ZOOMer 1:
Ethel

Arnold Arbudis:
Ethel!? Did you say Ethel?

(She nods)

What year were you born?

ZOOMer 1:
I was born in 1995.

Arnold Arbudis:
Wow.... You're not going to believe this. My name is Arnold Arbutis, I was born in 2095, and I think you've got to be my great, great grandmother.

ZOOMer 1:
Come to think of it, you do have the Arbutis chin!

Arnold Arbudis:
Grammy!

(They rush into each others arms for a big hug, but the minute they touch Arnold is sucked back into a time warp.)

SETTING: Scene Five: Arnold's house, the closet.

( Arnold bursts out of the closet door.)

Arnold Arbudis:
Mom, mom, I found out how Ubbi Dubbi started.

(Arnold closes the closet door and runs off.)

(The framed photograph on the closet door begins to glow and the portrait of the old woman morphs back to the face of the young ZOOMer, Ethel Arbutis. She smiles, then winks, then morphs back to old woman.)
