Do you know anyone who is deaf or hard of hearing? What have you learned from them?
Well, my dad has a hearing loss but he isn't completley deaf. He know no ASL but wants to learn. People who don't know him well find it hard to understand him. What I learned from it is that you can be succesful in life no matter what. At our church he is a deacon, a Sunday School teacher [the kids love him.]and a deacon. I love him and my other 5 family members!
Tabitha, 11
I am severely hearing impaired. and sometimes it is hard for me to hear my mom and dad and teachers. But I have a teacher in my class that helps me to know what the other is saying. I have been hard of hearing since I was born and I sign. My second language is English. I can read lips too!
Charity, 7
Some teachers in my school have a hearing problem but they can still hear because they are not fully deaf. My doctor taught ne the alphabet in american sighn languige.

When I was in 5th grade my art teacher taught us how to do the alphabet in sign language. Then I met a girl in 7th grade. She was deaf. So the alphabet in sign language helped me alot. Since now we r in the same grade together I've learned alot of things from her.

Well,my mom has a cochlear implant to help her hear. When the implant is off or the battery is dead, she can't hear. Sometimes, my dad uses ASL so she knows what we are talking about. We always have words on the TV. It's a great experience.

I am deaf and I don't have a hole lot of friends because people judge me and make fun of me.But I don't care that I am deaf and diffrent. So My Lesson Is:Don't get mad because you are diffrent from some people, cause EVERYBODY is diffrent
Asiah, 11
I have learned to be patient. The person might not hear something right the first time but still does not give up; just ask again.
Nicole, 10
This question is esay for me to answer because i am deaf. It's no big deal, sometimes it's frustrating to understand them sometimes but most of the times people judge me for being deaf. One thing i've learned while i been deaf my whole life so far is... Don't regret about who you are and don't wish you weren't deaf because that's just who you are like i accept the fact that i will be deaf my whole life and i like itmost of the time. Let that be a lesson to you. :)
Casey, 12
my 2 1/2 year old brother is deaf. He has a cochlear implant but using sign language helps us talk if he doesn't have the implant on. He goes to a school for the deaf and is learning a lot of signs and new things. He has taught me to slow down and take my time with people. I'm very good wtih sign language too.
Brianna, 9
There is a girl named Ashley in my class and she is hard of hearing, but not deaf. An aid sits in front of her and does sign language when the teacher talks. Ashley does talk to us, but it's sometimes hard to understand. But she's really nice so we all talk to her anyway.
Juliana, 12

One of my friends can't hear very well. He became deaf when he was only 10-years-old when it happened. Now he's a teen, just like me, but he's still can't hear. I can't understand what he says, so he has to write it down for me.
Atem, 13
i do not know anyone hard of hearing or who is deaf but i do know a ton of sign language!i think it is fun and i like signing alot.i am in a sign language club at school and we are learning a song by signing!
Jordyn, 8
I am deaf since I was 3 yrs old, so I dont sign because I heard sounds and words before and with my hearing aids. Now I have a cochlear implant, but just one so I only hear with that ear. It's hard to follow along with what kids are saying. Mainstreamed kids get little help in school, but the help we need is if the kids and the teachers understood and BELIEVED that we dont hear all sounds and just becaue we heard something in that spot yesterday, does not mean I can hear it now, and it also doesnt mean I can hear them or understand what they are saying becaue I can see their lips. Ya, complicated. I have 2 friends in school this year that are hearing impaired too but we are all different. Thanks.
Ally, 12
