Directions

When you read a story or a poem to your child, act it out with him or her. In a group, encourage the children to act out what you are reading to them or telling them. Get on your feet, and move arms, legs, change your voice, get silly, and bring the story to life for and with your child.

There are many excellent collections of poems besides the traditional Mother Goose. A Light in the Attic and Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein are both excellent choices for a wide variety of age groups -- even for some older elementary school-aged siblings who want to join in the fun!
