Directions

Make your own home made bagels! An easy way is to buy breadstick dough in the dairy case at the grocery store. Form the dough sticks into circles and pinch them together. Mix one egg yolk with a teaspoon of water. Brush each bagel with this mixture, then have the children sprinkle them with sesame, poppy or caraway seeds. Bake according to package directions. Or simply buy bagels - they are available at most markets throughout the country.

Have a bagel party with several kinds of flavored spreads. You can create all kinds of different spreads by combining your favorite jam or jelly with cream cheese. It is easier to mix up a spread if the cream cheese has been softened a bit at room temperature. Offer the children popsicle sticks for spreading, or. . . put a dab of spread on a paper plate and let the children use their fingers! Yum!
