Find pictures of animals in magazines and newspapers or draw them yourself. Cut out the pictures. Paste them on index cards and use them for a variety of simple games.

For a sillier game, cut the index cards in half and mix them all up. Then your child can put the animals together again as they should be. Make up some new animals. Put half a cat and half a dog together. What would you call that? A cog or a dat? Have a good time laughing together, and a great Big Hug!

Cut an animal card into several squiggly pieces. Mix the pieces all up. Put the animal picture back together again with your child! Give her a Big Hug!

Use your animal card deck as a picture book with your child and share some quiet time looking at each picture and talking about it. You can talk about the kind of noise the animal makes, which is the biggest animal, which is the smallest, whether the animal would make a good pet.
