Introduction to Alpha Pig‘s Alphabet Day
The campers meet their teacher and each other. They talk about SUPER WHY, then discuss what they will be doing during the week. Camp rules are established.

Interactive Viewing: “Around the World Adventure” / Transform into Alpha Pig
The group watches and discusses the episode “Super Why and Around the World Adventure”. They then transform into Alpha Pig, whose “Alphabet Power” is the focus of the Day 1 activities. Download or stream the episode using the link below.


Computer Time (Optional): Alpha Pig’s Amazing Alphabet Match-Up
Campers play Alpha Pig’s Amazing Alphabet Match-Up computer game as a group activity. They take turns matching the letter cards to the cards with the word that starts with the letter. A link to the game can be found here.

Craft Activity: Name Necklaces
Campers practice letter identification skills by finding beads with the letters of their names. They then use the beads to make name necklaces.

Game: Quickity-Lickety Letters
Campers “rescue” letters from a quicksand/oobleck mixture.

Movement Activity: The Alpha-Pokey and Finding Super Letters
In this variation on the Hokey Pokey, campers do the movements using letters on sticks. Then, just like the Super Readers in the SUPER WHY episode, they search for the Super Letters and use them to find the Super Story Answer.

Extended Learning
Sing along with Alpha Pig’s ABC song, then play the Alpha Pig game from the episode. Download or stream the video clip the link below.


Wrap Up
Do a quick review of the letters introduced and practiced in Day 1. If you wish, do a one-on-one assessment of each camper’s ability to identify the letters. Then sing the Hip Hip Hurray song to celebrate the accomplishments of the day.

Take-home Materials
Alpha Pig’s Lickety Lasso Letters Worksheet: Campers will reinforce the letter identification skills campers learned today by helping Alpha Pig lasso matching lower case and upper case letters. Alpha Pig’s Rescue Letters Worksheet: Campers will help Alpha Pig rescue the letters in the word rope by circling all of the upper and lower case letters in the word rope!
