Introduction to Princess Presto’s Spelling Day and Previous Day Review
Campers talk about Princess Presto and are introduced to the day’s activities. They review the camp rules, and the literacy skills that they learned on Days 1 and 2.
Interactive Viewing: “The Three Little Pigs” / Transform into Princess Presto
The group watches and discusses “The Three Little Pigs” episode, then transforms into Princess Presto whose “Spelling Power” is the focus of the Day 3 activities. Download or stream the episode using the link below.
Computer Time (Optional): Princess Presto Golden Crown Spelling Bee
Campers play the Princess Presto Golden Crown Spelling Bee computer game as a group activity. They take turns identifying letters by their sounds and using the letters to spell out words. A link to the game can be found below.
Craft: Activity: Grow a Letter!
Practicing the association between letters and the sounds they make, campers make letter flowers and “plant” them in a flowerpot when the teacher says the letter sound associated with a given letter.
Game: Princess Letter Sounds Basketball
When the teacher makes a letter sound, campers find the paper with the matching letter, crumple it into a ball and shoot it into a trash can, reinforcing the association between sounds and letters.
Movement Activity: Princess-cise Encoding Activity and Finding Super Letters
Campers combine movement with practicing letters/sounds associations, and identifying words that start with certain letters. They then search for the Super Letters and find the Super Story Answer.
Campers review the sound of each letter in the words PIG and BIG by watching a video clip of Princess Presto. They then reenact her game from the episode by holding up cards with letters that match the letter sound made by teacher. Download or stream the video clip below.
Do a quick review of the letter sounds practiced in Day 3. If you wish, do a one-on-one assessment of each camper’s ability to identify the letter associated with each sound. Then sing the Hip Hip Hurray song to celebrate the accomplishments of the day.
In take-home worksheet #1, children look at pictures of objects, say the name of each object out loud, then select the letter that each object starts with. In take-home worksheet #2, they cut out ten letters to put on objects around them that start with each letter.
