Introduction to Alpha Pig‘s Alphabet Day
The campers meet their teacher and each other. They talk about SUPER WHY, then discuss what they will be doing during the week. Camp rules are established.
Interactive Viewing: “The Three Little Pigs” / Transform into Alpha Pig
The group watches and discusses the episode “SUPER WHY and the Three Little Pigs.” They then transform into Alpha Pig, whose “Alphabet Power” is the focus of the Day 1 activities. Download or stream the episode using the link below.
Computer Time (Optional): Alpha Pig Alpha Bricks
Campers play the Alpha Pig Alpha Bricks computer game as a group activity. They take turns identifying letters of the alphabet until all the letters have been found. A link to the game can be found here.
Craft Activity: Lickety Letters
Campers practice letter identification skills by finding the letters in their names and then making a personalized name sign.
Game: Letter ID Bingo Game
Reinforce letter identification skills with this interactive, letter-based version of Bingo.
Movement Activity: Letter Scavenger Hunt Game and Finding Super Letters
Campers search for and identify letters hidden throughout the room. Then, just like the Super Readers in the SUPER WHY episode, they search for the Super Letters and use them to find the Super Story Answer.
Sing along with Alpha Pig’s ABC song, then play the Alpha Pig game from the episode. Download or stream the video clip the link below.
Do a quick review of the letters introduced and practiced in Day 1. If you wish, do a one-on-one assessment of each camper’s ability to identify the letters. Then sing the Hip Hip Hurray song to celebrate the accomplishments of the day.
In worksheet #1, campers find letters hidden in a picture. In worksheet #2, they color the letters of the alphabet and circle the letters in their names.
