Celebrating the ArtsActivity for Teachers
Arts Festival

Age Range: 3-5

Subject:

  • Arts and Crafts
  • Celebrations

Objectives:

  • Creativity
  • Self Esteem

Turn any afternoon into a special occasion -- one that brings children together to celebrate the art that is within them. You can have an arts festival for the children in your care, or for a whole center if you are part of a bigger organization. In this festival, everyone wins -- because the real prize comes from knowing that you have something valuable to offer and that others appreciate your ideas and creations.

Materials: None

Directions:

The children could help design and distribute flyers to let others know about the arts festival. What "artists," "performers," "musicians" want to participate?

Here are some "arts" to consider:

  • a talent show
  • children's paintings or drawings on exhibit
  • a video that children have made
  • create-your-own fruit parfait
  • a table with play clay for children to make sculptures
  • a mural long enough for each child to have a place to draw
  • a short performance by an adult musician
  • dancing like the trees dance in the wind
  • feeling the texture of a variety of things with eyes closed
