Little and Big

Fascination with Big Things, Valuing Little Things

Thoughts for the Week:

As children become more and more aware of themselves and their world, they become aware of how small they are, compared to people who take care of them. We adults can help young children feel good about who they are when we show that we value what they can do ... and that we don't expect them to be more grownup than they are ready to be.

-- Fred Rogers

Summary of the Week:

Maya Lin, the creator of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., and other special guests, world-renown cellist Yo-Yo Ma and his young son, and inventor Chuck Hoberman, share their appreciation of things little and big, helping children recognize there is great value in both.

In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, King Friday learns a very important lesson about little and big.  With the help of his neighbors, he comes to realize that it's all right that his little son can do something that he himself cannot do.
