Feeling Good about Who You Are
Thoughts for the Week:
This
week has two related messages -- learning to stick with a task even when it may
seem difficult; and recognizing that there are some things we cannot do, no
matter how hard we try. All of us need to know that no matter what we're able
to learn or what we're not able to learn, we're still loveable just the way we
are.
-- Fred Rogers
Summary of the Week:
This week of Neighborhood programs
focuses on persistence. To do anything well takes hard work and practice. It
is also important for children to understand that there are some things (like
flying through the air) that people cannot do at all, no matter how hard they
try.
Special guests this week include
magician David Copperfield who shows Mister Rogers simple rope tricks, and "The
Flying Karamazov Brothers" who teach him how to begin juggling with scarves.
He also meets a dollmaker, a hula hoop expert and the Uptown String Quartet --
an all-female African American jazz ensemble.
Carrying the theme into a story for
the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, puppets X the Owl and Lady Elaine Fairchilde
offer flying lessons to anyone willing to try. Their puppet pupil, Prince
Tuesday, learns something even more important: safety first.
