Age Range: 3-5

Subject:

  • Arts and Crafts
  • Pretend Play

Objectives:

  • Creativity

Save those paper bags -- they make great-looking wigs or hats!

Materials:

  • Medium-sized paper bag
  • Blunt-nosed scissors
  • Construction paper scraps, yarn bit, or buttons
  • Glue

Directions:

Paper Bag Wig

  • Cut away the front part of the bag -- for your child's face, leaving some of the paper in the front to make "bangs". Cut the paper bag into thin strips all the way around. If you like, your child can roll the strips of paper around a pencil to make them curl, or add flowers, ribbon, bows, or other hair decoration to make the wig fancy.

Paper Bag Hat

  • Turn the bag inside out, leaving a turned-up cuff on the outside. Scrunch the bag into any shape. Let your child decorate it with yarn, paint, or markers. Your child could also dab it with glue and add paper or fabric scraps, buttons, and just about anything else to decorate the hat.
