Any time that you're doing the
laundry is a chance for sorting and matching games with your child. An
important part about learning about letters and numbers is being able to see
that some things are the same and some are different.
Materials:
Directions:
Show your child how you sort the
laundry before putting it into the washer. Can your child sort into the piles
of whites, darks, or bright colors? Things that are delicate or things that
are sturdy?
After the laundry is done, show
your child that the clothes need to be sorted from each other again, but in
different ways, when they're clean and it's time to put them away. For
example, the white T-shirts or blue jeans need to be sorted according to size.
Can your child pair up the socks?
Ask your child to put each stack of
clothing into the room where it belongs.
As preschoolers are exposed to more
things, people, and experiences, they try to make sense of the world by
organizing things into categories. At this time in their lives, matching and
sorting games can be especially appealing.
