Egg Carton Cars

illustration of egg carton car

Age Range: 3-5

Subject:

  • Arts and Crafts

Objectives:

  • Creativity
  • Follow Directions
  • Fine Motor Skills

Turn an empty egg carton into a car to zoom around the room.

Materials:

  • Blunt-nosed scissors
  • Styrofoam or cardboard egg carton
  • Garbage bag twist ties
  • Non-toxic glue
  • Non-toxic markers
  • Cardboard box (optional for garage)
  • Plastic wrap (Optional)

Directions:

Start by cutting off the end of an egg carton so that there are four egg spaces for the wheels of the car. There will be a hinge on one side so that the top can swing open and shut.

Next, cut the side and back panels to make windows. Your child may want to use plastic wrap for windows and windshields.

Add a safety message by including seatbelts in the car. Poke slits in the sides of the passenger wells and thread twist ties through the carton where the seats are.

With another twist tie, make a door latch to keep the top shut.

Use a thick magic marker to draw shapes that look like headlights on the front, brake lights on the back, and spoked wheels on the sides.

Your child might also want to make a simple garage from a cardboard box.
