  • Creativity
  • Fine Motor Skills
  • Language Development

Create your own animal blocks, and you'll find lots of ways to play about many kinds of animals.

Materials:

  • Animal pictures (from old magazines and pet store advertisements)
  • Tape
  • Empty food boxes, small milk cartons, or blocks of wood
  • Scissors

Directions:

Ask the your child to help you find pictures of animals in magazines and pet store advertisements. Help your child cut out the animal pictures and tape them to the side of the boxes, cartons, or blocks. (If you are using empty food boxes, you can cover the printing with a piece of paper first so the animal picture can be seen better.)

The animal blocks can be used in different ways. For example:

  • See if your child can name the animals.
  • Encourage your child to use the animal pictures to pretend about what animals do.
  • You and your child can have a pretend animal parade.
