Thoughts From Our Neighbors

I was a very young mother when Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood came to television. My daughter & son and I grew up with him. He taught us wonderful things to use in our life experiences. Sixteen years later, a new son was born and he and I watched Mr. Rogers together. After another eighteen years I now watch with my two granddaughters. It really felt like Mr. Rogers' was our kindly neighbor. Mr. Rogers has left an indelible mark on this family and we will miss him.
 Kathleen - Oakland, NJ

Dearest Fred, Oh how you will be missed. You made mine and millions of other childhoods around the world so happy.I will always keep "that very good feeling" with me always.
 Andrew - Orange, CA

To Mister Rogers' Neighbood: I was utterly devastated and shocked to realize that my dear Mr. Rogers had sadly departed.I actually burst into tears when I started to think of his death. I honestly believed that he would live forever and I did not acknowledge him as a human being but as an angel. He was my constant father figure when I needed him to be. Among all of life's lessons, he taught me that I was special;I will cherish his teachings as long as I live. I am sure that he is in Heaven watching over me and the rest of the Neighbourhood, as he should be. I always loved the enthusiasm and zest for life that he possessed and shared with his friends. His amazing grace shone through in his strong television presence. I feel truly blessed to have been witness to such brilliance.
 Alisha - Los Angelas, CA

Even after my daughter was grown, I'd find myself watching Mr. Rogers, especially the reassuring sweater/sneakers routine. This was a truly good man and I will miss him. I am sure that he is brightening up that neighborhood up there now!

Where can I find the poem read by Mr. Rogers to the US Senate?

It's so easy to forget the simple things in your childhood that made such a difference. For me Mr. Rogers was one of them. Thank you, for everything, forever.

At a time when obnoxious voices fill television and radio fred rogers will be sorely missed he was a voice of healing and compassion. He understood television and radio is a gift from god, meant to build up people and not tear them

To Mister Rogers' Neighborhood:I always remember the comfort that it brought me as a child to hear Mister Rogers' calm soothing voice that spoke in a way that made me feel no matter what I was thinking, it was okay. His way of removing his "grown-up clothes" to get comfortable in his cozy sweater and sneakers to get onto a child's turf really set the stage for his great ability to talk and think through a child's mind. As I became a mother, how refreshing it was the day my son expressed enthusiasm for Mister Rogers more than I would ever expect in a day of such "advanced entertainment" with all the bells, whistles, and effects available in every media form. Three children later, I've been able to continue to relive that comfort from Mister Rogers as I share with them being "in the neighborhood." It is a reminder to me as a mother to slow down from the whirlwind of life and put more thought into my children's way of thinking. I was in the library with my girls when I turned to a display of his books in the lobby. Little did I know it was a tribute to him as I stepped over to read the printout of that morning's news article. I immediately was taken aback, realizing it was that very morning too made it even more of an impact. I immediately found myself tearfully explaining my open-mouthed expression of disbelief and sadness to my girls. With that, the librarian and I shared tearful eye contact as I continued to explain in a "Mister Rogers way" what was "wrong with Mommy!" Perhaps if it wasn't for Mister Rogers, I would have just cast them aside with an abrupt "oh nothing" and marched on our way.Thank You Mister Rogers and all of your support people who not only helped us grow into healthy adults, but continue to give us the guidelines for being good parents!!!
 Karen - Randolph, NJ

Although I'm from the Capt. Kangaroo generation, I often found myself lingering over the first few minutes of Mister Rogers on early morning TV. I think I was bracing myself for the morning news and my hectic workday. How we'll all miss his gentle wisdom!
 Kathie - St. Louis, MO

Fred, You were one of a kind and your legacy will live on for many years to come. Rest in peace.

 Chris - Silver Spring, MD

I will never ever forget how Mr.Rogers made my childhood a little bit brighter. It may be safe to say that this world was blessed by having Mr.Rogers in it. Yes...the sun has set in the neighborhood. But Mr. Rogers always reminded us that the day would break and there was always hope in the morning. See you in Heaven Mr.Rogers. Love ya man.
Dr. Brian - Blue Island, IL

I have grown up with you, and I have learned English thanks to you. You are a very special person and will be missed greatly by everyone who is part of "Neighborhood."
