First gather a few things:
ice cream
scoop or spoon
milk
jar or plastic container with tight-fitting lid
paper cups
straws (optional)
Scoop ice cream into a jar or plastic container. (About four large scoops in a one-quart jar works well.) Add milk until the jar is nearly full. Make sure the lid is on tightly. If there are several children, take turns shaking the milk and ice cream until the lumps are dissolved. You can limit each turn by counting to 10 or 15. When done, the children can pour the milk shakes into paper cups and add straws if you have them.

 | Food and caring go hand in hand. From early on, a hungry infant becomes aware that a caring person brings the milk. So when you're making things with a child in the kitchen, you're giving double benefits of time with you and doing something that's connected with food and love. |
