Recipe

Noodles are fun to make.

Noodles

First you will need to gather:
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup lukewarm water.
  • bowl
  • large pan
  • chicken or vegetable broth
  • rolling pin
  • carrots, onion, celery, potatoes (optional)
  • plastic knife
  • In a large bowl, combine two cups of flour, one egg, and 1/3 cup of lukewarm water. Mix the ingredients and knead the dough into a smooth ball. Take a chunk of dough and roll it out like for pie crust dough. With plastic knives, cut strips of noodles to add to the boiling broth. Cook until the noodles are tender. If you want to add chopped onion, celery, carrots, or potatoes, they should be cooked in the broth before adding the noodles.

Parent TipsThis may be even more enticing to your child than most kitchen things -- because it seems like "playclay" fun. The mixtures are similar and so is the work of mixing and kneading and forming the dough into balls. And while your child may know pasta only from the dried form sold in stores, your child may not have realized noodles are easy to make -- and fun!
