Granola is a healthy treat.

Granola

First you will need to gather:
  • bowls
  • spoons

  • small plastic bags
  • ribbon or yarn
  • paper
  • tape
  • You can buy packaged granola or make your own from the following recipe:

  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • Spread both on the bottom of a large pan:

  • 3 cups rolled oats
  • 1 cup dried milk
  • 1 cup shredded coconut
  • 2 cups untoasted wheat germ (if toasted, add later)
  • Distribute these dry ingredients on the bottom of the pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes, stirring every 5 minutes until well toasted.

    Mix with:

  • raisins
  • chopped dried fruit
  • sesame seeds
  • chopped nuts
  • Spoon the granola into small plastic bags. Bright yarn or ribbon tied around the top of each bag makes it more festive. Who might enjoy receiving the granola gifts? Write their names on pieces of paper and tape them to the granola packages.

Feelings we have when we give something to someone else. We are really fortunate when we have enough to eat and enough to share with others.

Parent TipsThere's a wonderful feeling about being able to give a gift of food. Food and love go hand in hand! Think about the early feeding times in infancy. Looking up at your face, holding on to your finger -- that goes along with the satisfaction of having milk to drink. So your love becomes connected to the feeding experience. No wonder there's something extra special about the feelings we have when we grow to be children and adults who can give something good to eat to someone else.
