Show and Tell pot

Did you guess that it was a pot?  Warm up those hands and mold your own pot, or another creation!

To make modeling dough, you and a helper can mix 1 cup flour, cup salt, and 2 teaspoons cream of tarter. In a separate bowl, mix 1 cup water and 1 tablespoon oil. Add a few drops of food coloring if you want colorful clay. Work together to combine the two mixtures, then you can cook it over medium to low heat, stirring until it feels like mashed potatoes. Let it cool before you touch it and then knead the mixture a little. Store your dough in a covered container.

Coiled Pot
Parent TipsMany children like to get their hands into modeling dough. It's an acceptable way of getting "messy," especially if you help by setting limits (like keeping it on a cookie sheet or on a layer of newspapers on the table). Pounding on dough can even help on a day when your child is feeling angry.
