Making a Self-Portrait

illustration of a self-portrait

Age Range: 3-5

Subject:

  • Appreciating Diversity and Uniqueness
  • Arts and Crafts

Objectives:

  • Building Self Esteem
  • Creativity

You and your child can each make your own self-portrait.

Materials:

  • Mirror
  • Drawing Paper
  • Crayons or Markers

Directions:

First, use the mirror to look carefully at your own reflection. Identify eyes, ears, nose etc.

Then, use the drawing paper and crayons or markers to create a self-portrait. Don't forget to look back in the mirror from time to time while you draw.

Whenever you become involved in your child's playtime, whether you're watching the play as an interested bystander, or becoming a partner with your child in the play, you'll have a wonderful opportunity to learn more about your child -- and probably more about yourself, too.
