Making Up Musical Stories

Age Range: 3-5

Subject:

  • Language and Literacy
  • Music

Objectives:

  • Language Development
  • Develop Imagination

Musical stories can be delightful creative fun for the whole family -- and you don't need any materials except your imagination.

Materials: None

Directions:

You might want to begin by singing something to your child that you would ordinarily say, like letting your child know you'll soon be going grocery shopping. Then ask your child to sing back to you, maybe letting you know what foods he or she would like for you to buy at the store.

You might suggest that your whole family helps to put on a musical story, letting your child or children make up the story and the songs, and decide who plays each role. The best ideas often come out of children's own imagination.

Musical stories can be a wonderful gift for children to give to a parent or grandparent to celebrate a birthday, holiday or any day!
