Site Philosophy
We created this site with the hope that it would give families a time to
interact together -- to talk together and have some fun playing and learning
together. We also designed some activities so that even preschoolers may be
able to have their own independent, creative fun.
Tips
Plan ahead.
Learn the ropes.
- Review the activity guide and each activity's tip (noted at the bottom of each screen) to identify developmental goals.
- Use the yellow arrow and trolley navigation bar on each page to help find your way.
Participate with your child.
- Young children may need help using the mouse. If they have difficulty navigating on their own, try placing your hand over theirs and asking them where they would like to go.
- Use the activities to prompt discussions about what your child thinks and feels. Activities like Traffic Light, A Neighborhood Story, and How Do You Feel? are invitations to talk and play together.
Be flexible.
- Let your child take the lead in deciding what to do at the site and how long to do any one activity. You will know when it's time to turn the computer off and go do something else... either because your child has been at the computer too long or is no longer interested.
- Consider the Web site a process of exploration and discovery, with no beginning or end and no right or wrong answers. Encourage children to bring their own ideas to what they see on the screen.
