Afterschool Pathway: Magnificent Mangroves

In "Magnificent Mangroves," kids explore how animals use the physical structures in their habitats–from the roots of a mangrove tree in Belize to the trunk and canopy of the trees in your neighborhood. This pathway was designed as a sequence that pairs together a PLUM LANDING animation and a related hands-on activity with several extension ideas, providing approximately one hour of programming.

Start out by having kids watch Mangrove Mystery, a short video about an ecosystem that provides many places to hide from predators. Talk about the related "Conversation Starters." Then, head outdoors for the related activity Catch Me if you Can. If time permits, wrap up your day by completing the "Explore Some More" ideas listed with both the video and activity.
