Will Street Sense Keep A Nose Ahead?
On May 19th, the second of three horse races that make up the Triple Crown will take place. Winning all three races is every jockey's dream. This year, one horse still has a chance to do it!
He's called Street Sense. He won the first race called the Kentucky Derby. It wasn't easy. He was running next to last, but charged past 18 horses for the win. Cool!
The next race is called the Preakness Stakes. It takes place in Baltimore, Maryland. If jockey Calvin Borel can ride Street Sense to victory, he'll be one step closer to glory!
The final race of the Triple Crown is called the Belmont Stakes. It takes place at the Belmont Race Track in New York. It will be held on June 9th.
If Street Sense wins his next two races, he'll be the twelfth horse to win a triple crown in almost a hundred years. The first winner was a horse named Sir Barton in 1919. The last horse to win was called Affirmed. That was way back in 1978! Whoa!
Street Sense will need both skill and luck to win the Preakness. Fans still remember last year's race when super horse Barbaro was critically injured. Hopefully Street Sense will be strong and healthy from start to finish. Good luck in Baltimore, Street Sense!
I'm Lucy and that's what happened in sports this week!
Let's locate the places in my story in this week's Pinpoint game!
