Imagining & Describing

As Colorful as a Rainbow
A game for one or more players

Can you describe a color by comparing it to something else?

First find a colorful object. Then say what color it is by comparing it to something else. Is a stoplight as red as a clown's nose? Maybe your shirt is as blue as the sky, or as yellow as mustard (no fair if you actually have mustard on your shirt). For a variation, try describing the size or feel of something: a phone as big as a shoe, or a blanket as soft as a bunny.

Click's Chicken Jokes
A game for 1 or more players

That chicken's crossing the road again.

Do you like to tell silly jokes? Like the one that starts "Why did the chicken cross the road?" Make up silly punch lines for it. We'll start you off with one: "Why did the chicken cross the road?" "Because Phyllis Diller was on the other side!"

Cry Sheep
A game for 2 or more players

Quick thinkers needed to shout out answers.

This game is best played in teams. The more players, the better.

To play, one team is the Wolf Team and thinks of a specific category, for example "Things That Very Rich People Do."

That team times one minute on a stopwatch while the other team, the Sheep Team, shouts out ideas of what very rich people do.

So, the Sheep may shout out things like, "They use bottled water for taking a bath!" or "They wear gold slippers!"

At the end of a minute, tally the number of ideas. Take turns going being the Wolf and Sheep and see which team comes up with more ideas.

Fox's Flattery Fest
A game for 1 or more players

Be like Fox and flatter your favorite animal.

Remember how the fox said lots of nice things to the crow? That's called flattery.

Pick a favorite animal and come up with different ways to flatter it. Know any cats that could use a compliment? Why not try, "Those are the best whiskers!" or "You have the most perfect purr!" Know any fish that would welcome some flattery? Drop a line like, "You swim like an Olympic gold medallist!" or "That's really cool how you can stay under water for so long."

Imagine the Impossible
A game for 1 or more players

Think of crazy "what if" situations.

To play, all you do is imagine something being very different and kind of wacky. So, if you imagined you had antlers like Lionel and Imogene did, how would things be different for you? Maybe you'd have to duck your head when getting into a car or have new ways to carry things around?

What if you were as small as a mouse? What would be easier to do? Or harder to do? You'd probably be able to hide in very small places making you a master champion of "hide and seek." But what about getting ice cream out of the freezer? Now that would be a lot harder.

Think of other what ifs and how things would be different.

In the Olden Days
A game for 1 or more players

Imagine you are the couple in Sausage Nose and living back in the olden days.

Take turns making up sentences about how you had less in the olden days.

Start each sentence with, "In the olden days..."

For example:
"In the olden days, instead of M & M's we just had M's."
"In the olden days, instead of yo-yo's we just had yo's."
"In the olden days, when we did ballet, instead of using tu-tu's, we just used one-one's."

Let's Face It
A game for one or more players

Find hidden faces.

Did you ever notice how the front of a car sometimes looks like a face, with two eyes, a nose, and a mouth? How about an electrical socket? Look for more faces hidden in objects around you, like on a radio, wood paneling, or even a potato. The weirder the better.

Marmy's Smarmy Scenarios
A game for 2 or more players

That boy Arty is such a smarty, and he's always saying silly things.

One person makes up a silly question that involves a choice. For example, "Would you rather sit in mayo or peanut butter?" or "Would you rather eat asparagus or broccoli with your ice cream?"

The other person has to pick an answer and explain why they made that choice. See who can come up with the most outrageous questions and funniest answers.

Off the List
A game for 2 or more players

Smarties needed to help Arty figure out what shouldn't be on the list.

To play, one person thinks of an activity, like baking cookies. Then, that person makes up a list of things they DON'T need to do this activity.

For example, if it's cookie-baking time, which of these things would you not need: flour, sugar, old socks, butter, a wheelbarrow?

Your lists can be as silly or as serious as you like.

On the List
A game for 2 or more players

Help the monkeys figure out what should be on the list.

To play, one person thinks of an activity, like going to the moon in a space rocket. Then, that person makes up a list of things they would need to do this activity. For example, if you're heading off to the moon, what would you need to take with you?

Moon boots? Maybe. A piano? Probably not.

Pecos Bill's Good, Better, Best Test
A game for 2 or more players

Pecos Bill was the best at cleaning up the West, but he needs your help with the rest.

The object of the game is to make comparisons between things that are alike but in some way different.

You can compare just about anything.

Example: Pick three things like three trees. Which ones are green, greener or greenest? Or tall, taller or tallest?

Example: Pick three dogs. Which ones are fluffy, fluffier, fluffiest? Or slobbery, slobbery-er, slobbery-est?

Pinocchio Knows
A game for one or more players

What if you could bring your favorite toy to life?

Pick your favorite toy. If it could come to life, would it be a boy or a girl? What would its voice sound like? What would it act like? Which of your other toys would it be friends with?

Prove It!
A game for two or more players

Tell people what you're not.

The first person asks a second person if they are a certain object. The second person then must give three reasons why they are NOT that object.

First Person: I think you are a monkey.

Second Person: I am NOT a monkey.

First Person: Prove it.

Second Person: Well, I don't only eat bananas, I don't swing from trees, and I don't have a tail.

Red Slice, Green Slice
A game for 2 players

You'll be saying "Red ahead!" or "I've seen green!'

To play, see who can spot the most red and green things by journey's end.

Players get one point for spotting a red or green thing, but two points for spotting something that's both red and green, like a slice of watermelon.

Whoever has the most points at the end of the journey, wins.

S/M/L
A game for one or more players

Things come in many sizes.

bjects usually comes in small, medium, and large. For example, a raindrop, a puddle, and an ocean are all different sizes of water. A snowflake, a snowball, and a snowman are all different sizes of snow. A tent, an apartment, and a mansion are all things you can live in. Can you think of more examples?

Spot the Spots
A game for one or more players

Where would you hide if you were very small?

When you're walking around outside, take a look at what's around you. If you were a small animal, where would you sleep for the night? Why? What if you were a large animal?
