Here are some words and concepts that will be covered in Lesson Five of the downloadable Lesson Guide (267K PDF file).
Neutral: not taking sides; not having an opinion; not decided
- "Neutral" on a car gearshift means you are able to drive neither forward nor backward.
- A neutral color is off-white or beige.
Party: a person who takes one side of an issue; a person who takes part in an action. In the story, the "neutral party" is the character who does not take sides.
- A party can also mean a social gathering where people come together to enjoy themselves or celebrate.
Ultimatum: a final demand
- An ultimatum comes after a person has tried to solve a problem by other means. It is a last resort.
Emergency meeting: a meeting that must take place as soon as possible
- A meeting is a gathering of people to discuss a particular issue or set of issues.
