This type of research helps us find out what kinds of learning resources and digital devices are currently available to parents, teachers, and children. It also tells us where the gaps are, so we can help fill them. This is important for us to know, so we can create new PBS KIDS games and other learning resources that will meet the needs of our target audience—kids from birth to age 8 and their parents and teachers.
This study focuses on how parents in low-income communities use mobile devices and apps to support their children’s mathematics and reading skills.
This study sheds light on: 1) how best to communicate with parents of children in pre-kindergarten to grade 3 about their children’s math and literacy learning, 2) access to and capacity for using Interactive White Board (IWB) technology in pre-kindergarten to grade 3 schools and programs, and 3) access to and capacity for using other technologies in pre-kindergarten to grade 3 schools and programs.
