--Bri, 12
"I go to a new school pretty much every year so I'm kinda used to it. But this year I'm going to my old school again which I'm kinda freaked out about."
--Masa, 10
"Siara, 12, No, we can't blaming you for missing your old friends but if they bullied you then they weren't really friends were they, are you sure they weren't innocently poking fun at you, should of told them to ease up that you didn't like it and if not you could have found other friends who were nicer to you I think it would of been better to not have any friends at all then be friends with ppl you didn't really like."
--Sarah, 12
"Ricky, okay to tell you the truth I found it hard to make friend bcuz I was in a split class with only 5 other ppl in my class (no not becuz I was not smart as everyone it's Ôcuz the gr. 5 class was full so they had to put some of the ppl in a 4/5 class) but then I was moved in to the strait, well all my friends were in the split except for a couple ppl! It was hard but to be social I just passes it around that I had msn, well msn seemed to help me climb the social latter from nobody really knows her to known and liked! It was awesome I have more friends and more ppl to talk too, but I still hung out with my other friends! So if you try to socialize it will really help, I'm shy so it was hard but I was able to sort of push it away. Try and you'll make friends."
--Sarah, 12
"Clayton, 12, you don't have to shut yourself out of the past I am still in touch with my old friends who went to a French program my mom is still friends with someone who was her childhood friend, I would never shut out my friends from going to a new school when they played a great role in my life."

"The worst thing about going to a new school is the things you leave behind. I'm going to a new school and I get very emotional because school separated me and my best friend and it can really hurt."
--Amy, 11
"Anna 10 - well first of all I don't think accent will stay with you, I have family that lives in Tennessee, and when my mom was little she would go there for a few weeks and pick up the accent, then when she came back home it would be totally gone, in a few weeks. So I don't think it will stay with you. And to tell you the truth there are mean people in the world and you probably will get teased, but there are a lot more nice people in the world, and some people might even like how you talk. I'm sure you'll make new friends. Ned 12 - I go to a public school, and I thought the older kids would beat me up to, but I'm now going into 8th grade and turns out they don't beat people up, basically they just go their own way, and you go yours, hope this helps!"

"Before I moved to my new school, my life totally stunk. But when I got to start in a whole new school, I am thrilled! I met new friends who are 100% nicer than my old ones. I know that I'm very different than most other kids who went to a new school, they miss their old friends and all. But can you blame me for not missing my old friends (who are bullies! Really they bully me almost every single day)?"
--Siara, 12

"I remember when I went from kindergarten to elementary school. I only got to see two of my friends. It was kind of sad because here I was in a totally new school alone with only two of my old friends. Everything the three of us wanted to do we had to ask the teacher where it was. That was really upsetting to me."
--Gabriela, 11
"Yeah, it's totally hard. I never get new friends."
--Ricky
"Yes I have. When I changed schools it was a little bit tough. It's really easy to make friends. But still you need to treat them with respect and if they are a true friend they will treat you the same way. Yeah I missed them but it's better to leave the past alone and pay attention to the future..."
--Clayton, 12
"It was a total bummer. I missed all my friends. And I mostly missed my crush. Now I will never see her again. She is my crush forever..."

"I'm going to move next week all the way across the country! I'm afraid everyone will only see me as the freaky new girl who says 'ya'll' all the time, and doesn't add the 'g' to 'ing' words. I know I will hate it at my new school!"
--Anna, 10
"I've been going to a public school system my whole with friends I've known my whole life and now I'm going to a Catholic school where none of my friends go and I just started getting used to my old middle school. The school is a junior/senior mix so it goes from grade 7-12. I know some kids but while all my friends are going to enjoy their first day together I have to be in a new school : (. "

--Idon, 11
"Yehh. I left my old school after 7th grade and came to my new school for 8th. It was an interesting experience. My old school was private, and also pretty small. We all had known each other for years. Then I moved to a BIG PUBLIC school. It was a BIG change for me. All kinds of different people. Some were rude, some were nice. But I'm a naturally friendly person so I made friends easily. And I did miss my friends from my old school. Going to a new school & meeting other people really changes your perspective on your other friends. Even now, almost 2 years later, I still keep in touch with most of my friends. HONESTLY, the way to go is: BE YOURSELF. When you're fake, that's not cool. And everyone hates posers. If people don't like you for who you are, find some that DO. I know that sounds clichŽ, but it's very very true. Once you find that special friend, you'll know it ;] good luck!"
--Ehhsie
"I went a few new schools a long time ago in elementary school. I missed my friends terribly, and we all cried when I moved away. But I kept in touch with my friends and I made a bunch of new ones as well and started to like my new school better."

"I just got out of 6th grade and I'm going to middle school. I'm sooo scared. What if they don't like me? I'm a really shy person so how am I supposed to socialize? OMG I'm so scared. Why on earth do I have to be me? it's also important to a good first impression on your teacher."

"I just graduated from grade 5 and I'm on to middle school. So what should I do. So next year when I'm in grade 6. I hope there's no problem with teachers or the upperclassmen."

"In third grade, I moved from Calgary, China! It was soooooooo hard to let my friends out of my life. When I made friends at my new school, they were great! But at summer vacation, I would never see them and my teacher ever again! I cried the whole day!"
--Vina
"I moved a lot when I was a little girl, and now I'm 9. I've only had to change schools once, because I started moving when my parents got divorced when I was three, so I wasn't in school then. But I really miss my dad who lives in St. John's. (I live in Corner Brook, NL). So anyways, when I changed schools, I really missed my friend Sarah Clark. I have her phone number but never call her. She played on my trampoline once. (Now we have a bigger one. ) I have never heard from her since. I also miss my friend Madaline. It's really hard to change schools, but now I'm in fourth grade, and turning 10 this summer, and I have the BEST teacher ever! So. Give ya school a chance. Or and I've have a new best friend. (Samantha. T, and lots of other friends too!"

--Leng-Pang, 12
"In 5th grade, I had to go to my home school. My stepmom taught at this school and I got to go to that school. But her and my dad divorced and I had to go to my home school. I really didn't like it. Later in the year I got to go to the school that my stepmom taught at. But while I was at my old school, something amazing happened: I met one of my best friends from 1st grade in my class (I used to go there in 1st grade). That made my school year a little better. As the year went on, like in mid Sept., I made friends with practically everyone in my class. But in that class, I only had 3 best friends: Melissa, Alexandria, and of course, Jennifer, my friend from 1st grade. I got to go back to the school that my stepmom taught in Nov. But I did miss my friends. But I miss all my friends now. =")."

"I just got out of school so now I am a 7th grader! I have to go to a different school next year. It's summer vacation but why do I feel so sad? This boy that I had a crush on for all of last year, I'm sure he likes me back by the way he looks at me. On the last day I didn't even see him when the bell rang I guess he was in a rush...The thing is I was hoping to just say a nice "Bye" to him...And if he turned around a would tell him I liked him. But I guess it didn't work out like that. I hope I see him next year..."

She is so NOT right, I could just ignore them in my class AND in the hallways! And she also is worried about me going on a bus instead of being driven by her! WHY don't parents understand? If I convince her, I might go, though."
--Chococheechee, 10

"I was at a school when my family moved to a new town. The kids talked behind my back, thought I was weird (because I was NICE to them), and thought I was a boy when I was clearly a girl. My mom was nice about it and let me do homeschooling after attending it for two months. Advice for Alondra: just tell your mom you don't want to go. Say it straight and nicely and maybe she'll understand."

The only thing I like is the uniforms because people can't judge u! The girls at my school are really bad--They do tons of drugs and are always drunk...And doing other things. And also there is waaayyy to much homework and tests. I spend 5 hours a night doing homework and studying! : (."

"Well I just started going to this new school and it's a private school, last year I was at a public school and I loved it because of all my friends where there, and my grades were horrible last year I always got F's and I went to summer school and almost didn't pass 7th grade. Then this year my dad sent me to a private school and yea I kinda don't like it because my friends don't go to this school, and my private school is a religion school their "Christian" but no I'm not Christian I'm CATHOLIC! But ooh well I guess that's life, EVRYTHING HAPPENDS FOR A REASON! And it stinks. =[."

But then my older sister, Elisabeth told me not to worry, you'll fit in one day. So, I took her advice. It turned out the first day of school I bonded with two girls, and I had a crush. It seems like it was meant to be..."

"I have just changed schools. From a private to a public and wow there is a big difference. At my old school kids would never do some of the things kids do at my new school. I miss my friends so much, and I don't get to go on retreat, which I was really looking forward to. But at my new school I have met a lot of new friends that are really nice. And the work is way easier, we only get a little bit of homework instead of getting piles of homework. So I'm kinda confused if I made the right choice or not."

"I have gone to a new school. Yes, I did miss all of my friends, but I had more of a chance to make new ones! And I did make new friends. Turns out that after a week, every kid wanted to hang out with me. My advice to you is to just be yourself. If they don't like you for who you are, then they're missing out!"
--Karina, 13
"I used to be at a huge school in Washington, D. C. With about 1,470 kids in my school. Now I live in a small town in Maine with only 700 kids in my school. It is different in so many ways, but it is really enjoyable. I really miss my old friends, though. And it's cold up here."

"Yes, I have moved to a new school and a new district. I miss all of my friends but I definitely do not miss my old school because I was bullied there. But going to a new school has enabled me to catch up on a friend form my past and meet new people who are very nice. I have also made new friends who have more in common with me than my old friends. Me and my friends are such good friends that I don't remember how we became friends."
--Aurora
"I have went to a new school once. It was extremely hard. I missed my old friends and my teachers. I missed all the activities there. I was just starting to become popular and BOOM! I go to a different school!"

But when I came to my new school I made so much new friends they were new also so it was even better. And my older cousin was there and she was popular so she helped me get more friends."

"Well I have been to 2 high school...The first one I have been there for like 5 years...And I was very popular...Last year I joined another high school in another continent and it's been a year and made no real friends which is really bad...I certainly miss my last school so much...I just can't wait to leave this one-16."

"I have experienced going to a new school, but not in the way you'd expect. You see, my school burned down. It's true, I did not have to deal with a new class or teacher or making new friends, but it hurt, it really did, thinking that our school will never be the same. How do you think that me and my classmates should cope? P. S it happened about 3 months ago and today's the last day of February and I'm still really upset."

"Hi, I'm the one who wrote about moving in grade 2, grade 3, and grade 4. Of course I had old friends, and I would always miss my old friends terribly. I DID make new friends, of course, and I enjoyed everyday with them but I dreaded the end of the school year because I knew my dad had found the "Right place" and we would have to move AGAIN! But now I'm in grade 7 and I've been here for 2 full years without moving and I'm happy to say I'm also going to stay until grade 8. I just LUV my friends, they are sooo cool and now I can truthfully smile and say that I will be here next year. Thank you for having this IML and this is a great place where you can talk about your feelings! It's awesome!"

"Let's start at the beginning, shall we? In 2002 my mom married my stepdad. In 2005 his parents moved to Georgia. Well, we started visiting and the next thing I know my mom's looking for houses down there. On February 1708 we moved to Georgia from Tennessee. I cried more than EVER. My friends cried, too (right now remembering is making tears appear). I went to my new school on February 28th. I met new friends, but they reminded me of the ones from Tennessee. I started a new journal (I gave my old one to my BEST friend) and most importantly kept in touch with my friends by writing letters, phone calls, texts, going to visit once, emails, and now webcam. I still cry now and then and they do too. But, we remember we'll see each other soon..."

"I'm in 5th grade. I'm kinda scared of middle school next year. What should I do?"
--Michellle, 10
"Actually I've moved to new schools like 3 times. One in grade 2, grade 3, and grade 4. It was really hard, 'cuz after I got used to one year, I had to move again. But then in grade 5 I went to this really neat school and I really really liked it. So when my parents saw how happy I was here, they promised I wouldn't move until grade 8, which is the end of my elementary school. Now I'm in grade 7 and I've enjoyed two happy years at my school."
--* no name*, 12
"I'm moving to Georgia in 3 weeks and I'm really sad. I'm going to miss my 6 best friends and my school. But I'll miss my uniform the most because it was my favorite thing to wear. I'm so nervous and my sister is real excited. I might not move because my dad wants custody of us. I hope we stay."
--Latasha, 9
"I was scared, because I thought I wouldn't make new friends, but I did, and it turns out they are some of the most best friends I ever had."

"I hate my new school! Hate it hate it hate it. It's too fancy! Like, oh, there's shopping and a bank and this and that. And at lunch, the teachers up on the stage make us clap and if you don't clap, they make you clap and they let you talk for at least 3 to 5 minutes, but that is it. And the teachers ask questions and stuff when we eat. It's annoying because I needed ketchup when the teacher was asking those questions and the helpers who passed out ranch and ketchup and stuff, they thought I was raising my hand to answer questions, so I never did get ketchup. I made friends, but they weren't as good as my bestest friend back at my old school. Just one more year and I'm going to be going to go to junior high. I won't be going to that school anymore."
--Theresa, 11
"I miss my friend so much when in a new school? I'm in a public school my whole life and I miss being popular that's the greatest thing for me."

"Well...No but this new girl Breanna moved here this year and I wish we could have got to know each other but we only had 1 class together and we sat in different side of the room but a lunch that day she had this weird grin that made me think she was evil but now we sit together and it's cool."

"One Word Yeah, I kinda miss my own friends. But Back in 5th grade I was the one who always stood out of the group. But now I'm in middle school 7th grade (YEAH BE JEALOUS LOL JP) I'm like really popular (not the stuck up way. Gossip about everyone else type of popular) ’Äòcause I got like 100 friends and most of them are 8th graders!!!"

"I have experienced going to a new school all the time in my life. I have gone to S School for kindergarten, L Elementary School for 1st through 6th grade and this year I transferred to a new School District. I miss my friends from L, and S school a lot. I do make new friends. Some of my new friends are Kevin B, Scott M, and Laikon F."

"Hey I just started a new school. I went to public school all my life, and then switched to a private school for high school. I do miss my friends, but there are plenty of new people to meet, and I am really shy. So if you are going to a new school, don't sweat it and act like yourself."
--Lucy
"I have been home schooled since 3rd grade (I'm in 6th grade now). Just this year, we (my parents and I) decided that I should go to band at the local middle school. This was difficult for me because I knew hardly anyone. I had moved in 5th grade, so it's not like I was reuniting with old friends or anything. I'm not the biggest talker either. It's almost a miracle that I'm posting this I'm that quiet. Over the course of this year, I have started talking more with the kids in band. I've even found a boy I kinda like (he doesn't know yet. I'm too shy to tell him. ) It's gotten a lot better lately..."
--Rebekah, 12
"I have, when I was in Grade One my family moved back from Wales. Most kids were nice. The only thing was that was annoying was my spelling ( Welsh alphabet is way different than the English one! ) and that there was this one kid that kept saying I talked with a 'scottyish' accent. I don't talk with an accent anymore, but that was annoying for a while. And, yes, I did mi-correction, DO miss my friends. They were awesome! *Glares at Atlantic Ocean* It needs to be smaller. Way smaller."
--Elizabeth, 10
"Question! What makes you popular. I am Homeschooled. But whenever I go anywhere a bunch of girls treat me like I am popular. I AM NOT TRYING TO BRAG! But what does make someone popular and someone un-popular?????"

"I'm ALREADY popular at my new school! I'm ALWAYS texting my friends in class, and talking and passing notes and stuff! And I'm always the trendsetter at my school! I didn't ask for all of this! I'm just treated like I'm popular I guess! And don't think I'm dumb because I have Pre-AP Reading, and Advanced Pre-Algebra and more advanced classes! But I always get straight A's in all of my classes, so I wouldn't worry about grades right now..."
--Verona, 12
"Completely. I entered one as Kasey, though that's not my name. I still miss Portland, and now it's worse. I'm not used to the weirdoes here because they are WAY different and so I have a hard time enjoying my friends. Some of the popular people are nice, but others are jerks. I used to be a popular, no I'm just no one. And, there's a rumor going around that I LIVE IN A DUMP, DON'T WASH MY CLOTHES OR MY HAIR! I HATE IT! But I know I have good friends in Portland and Canby that love me, so it's all good, I guess."

"When I go to a new school I feel nervous and I don't even talk to anyone only my new best friends."
--Ayat, 10
"Yup, I have, but not so far from my old town. I made new friends, and I became popular (not stuck-up popular but popular w/ friends). The good thing about going to a new school is that you can start a new reputation. Like, last year at my old school I was a kinda-sorta nerdy, yet popular, girl, but now I'm a popular, smart, funny, competitive girl on the basketball team! : ) P. S. Eww, Kaitlin (9)! You're only 9 yrs. Old and you're already calling boys hot??? No offense, or anything. : )."

"I went from a cult school (no TV or computers or name brand clothing allowed) to a religious private school (very sheltered and innocent) to homeschool (isolated from the world with a bunch of geniuses) to an ultra-liberal politically correct school (kids making out in class) and back to religious school. I've seen it all!"

I really missed my friends a lot and I have been to that school like ever since k_5 I only stayed there for a little while I hope when I go down there some time soon. "I moved to a new school in 4th grade and I hated it bad. I also missed my old school and my friends bad too. In my new school, we have currency, or money, that we get if we are good. My old school had pretend currency too. But what stinks is that we have a court. Yep, I know what you're thinking, the ones with people who fine you. I know it's a punishment for doing something bad, but lets say there's a field trip. Well, you can go only if you don't have a fine to pay off. And usually the fines take forever to pay off. Sometimes they charge over one hundred or sometimes 300. They are soooo strict."

"My school is closing down. I’Äôm very happy that the school is closing because sometimes teachers are mean to me and the school is dirty. Yes, I have experienced going to a new school. Yes I did miss my friends. Yes I did make new friends. Then again, I, m very sad because that school has been there since 1989. It is on the records. It is closing because our test scores are terrible. Your teacher should have told you if your test scores were down 3 times in a row you are on the list of schools closing after June you’Äôll be in a new school. I wish there was something I could do but there is not. I wish Mayor Fenty would change his mind about the schools closing. Again I say this I wish there was something I could do."
--Kate, 9
"I have been in the same school since K-3 grade. But then in fourth grade I found out I had to move to a new school called Rowland Elm. I was so sad. I called my friends after my first day of school. They told me they missed me. Sometimes I get to visit them. I really miss them a lot sometimes I wish I could go back there. P. S I have no friends at my new school."
--Nicole, 9
"I moved to Cedar Park on January. I still went to my school, then it happened. My mom told me I had to be moved to another school. I told my best friend since 2nd grade. The last day of school came and after that, I never saw her (Olevia) again. : - (."

"HEY yo's! I've moved (starts counting with fingers loses count, then asks calculator) 4 times to different schools but the last one doesn't really count 'cause it's middle school. And yes I did make new friends every time. My first school I was only there in kindergarten then my second school (I moved to my first house) I was there for 1st to half of 5th I had the same friends for about 5 years...Even though they turned out to be backstabbers (but that was my last day there so I was saved the embarrassment thank macaroni! ) then the last half of 5th grade I moved to another city so I got a new house and a new school and I was glad 'cause no one knew how I really was so I didn't have to be shy ( my true nature is shy and quiet and I had been that at my other schools so I couldn't exactly change...) I could be a whole new person so I made friends whom I'm friends with even now! (I'm in 8th grade and we all have different classes but we're still best friends! ) I was determined to be not normal and boring like I think I usually was so I'm as loud. Talkative and weird as a person can be (I think that just might be my true personality after the shy one) now I have class friends that even include guys!! (I used to be so shy that I would stutter and say stupid things in front of them and that would make me clam up even more...*depressed suddenly at remembering her childhood so much that her sister next to her is freaked at the frightening aura around her*) and that's kinda good 'cause even last year when I was loud I dint really have any guy friends at all 'cause id still worry about saying something stupid which would make me have a worried face and then say something even stupider than I had imagined and then regret even saying "Hi' 'cause what I had just said had sounded a lot better in my head. (my logic and way of thinking is that abnormal, and I'm pretty smart too so that really doesn't make any sense...Even to me...) so that's my life story people now I gotta leave 'cause I think I might need a counselor. LOL!! TTYL."
--Elianne, 13
"I moved when I was in fifth grade. My new school was weird. I was so scared but then a boy, john, came up to me and said "I like you" and the next thing I knew was that he was kissing me. It was a great day! P. S. This should be in best day at school but there is no room!!!!!!!!!!"

"Yes, I've experienced moving, new schools, you get the point. Well, you see, my folks wanted my brother and I into the Gifted Program, so we took a test and were accepted. I thought that I would hate my new school because: 1) my best friend (s) wouldn't be there. 2) my crush wouldn't be there. 3) my fave teachers wouldn't be there. 4) I wouldn't make new friends. 5) everyone would bully the new girl. 6) I just didn't want to, because we'd have to sell our house. But then, I made tons of friends, and, one day, one of my new friends told me that I made more friends than her, and I was new. Last year she was new and she said that she only made about two friends. Harsh, isn't it? Well, I guess SOME changes are good."
--Camille, 10
"I hate high school. Everyone is mean to each other. I don't have my friends there. Help me."

"Have you ever been picked on when you go to a new school? well that's me. I never have any friends."

"I hate my new school!!! My old middle school is better than a college prep academy. At my new school, you have to tuck in your shirt and they require uniforms. Ugh!!!"
--Jamel, 11
"I hate my old school cause I would always be blamed and everyone hated me. And now that I'm in this other school I even have a best friend and I'm one of the popular kids."

"Aaaah...Having friends is a nice thing. I came home from school thinking about the sleepovers I'll have next year. Mom came in and told me that we were moving! We got there, and I was the new kid, I missed Olympia, AND I had to make new friends ALL OVER AGAIN!!! It's hard when it's the 3rd school you're going to!!!"
--Eannahre, 10
"Ohh yesss. Last year I went to a Middle School and it was a great school. Basically the only types of kids who went there were gangsters or punks or goths so it was interesting. And so I guess you could say I'm not the most perfect child around, for I guarantee every other week I got sent to the principles office : ). Anyway, now this school year I got moved to a different school because my mom wanted to try a new and more challenging curriculum (sp? ). So she moved me to a new school. And OMGSH! Shoot me now!! I hate this school. All the guys there wear comb-overs and the girls wear tight braids or high ponytails!! Haven't they ever heard of a hot iron or or or straightener!? (No offense I do like braids and ponies it's just dumb how that's the rule...) and the make the most dumbest rules! Black nail polish is forbidden on school property! You can't wear shoes with open toes! You have to wear there stupid uniform! (All though I don't) and and garhh! Every one there sees me as some total bad girl! AND I DO NOT HAVE ANY FRIENDS THERE!!! I WANT TO GO BACK TO FOURT NORTH!!!!!!"

"At first I was excited about being in a new and better high school and going through new experiences, but after a little while I really started missing my old friends. I had been through everything with them, and now it feels like I have to start all over again. Luckily, my friends from my old school are the best ones EVER, and there is no way that they would erase me as being their friends. Now, I have twice as many friends 'cuz of both of my schools! It took some time, but in the long run it all turns out ok!"

School is a good way to learn but sometimes it gets a little rough. Sometimes you get a teacher or teachers that are really mean but you will get used to them. Im in the 7th grade and all my teachers are nice except 1, which is Ms. Gatlin. I mean, she calls kids Dumb Dora and all these sort of mean names. I make a lot of friends. Some of you that read this will too.
--Summer, 12
Totally! I got used 2 it tho!
--Kalissia, 11
I like school cause it is way more fun than being in the house.
--Paty, 13
Yes I have. In fact I am in a new school right now. I just started Julian Elementary School. I have made five or six new friends. Yes, I miss my old ones a lot!
--Ashlee, 9
I started a new school in third grade. When I found out I had to change schools, I was so sad : - (. I had to because my old school was getting too crowded so some neighborhoods had a school change. I knew some people from my neighborhood but they we not my close friends. I felt alone, but then I mat some people and it all seemed better. But then she turned out to be very rude. So I hung out with other the rest of the year. Then in fourth grade I met a true friend because of the math class switch. Nelly is nice and I am still friends with her now. Even though it was had at first, I am glad I switched schools : -) If I didn't, I might not know Katie, or Natalie either!
--Maddy, 12
Well, when I started 6th grade that was hard, and I didnt have a very good year. But this year 7th grade is great, because I got used to the school. And I know almost everyone so its cool. My bf from 2nd grade went with me to that school, so that was really the only fun thing that year. She changed her school this year, but Im still having a good time. I miss her though!!! I still have really good friends here too.
--Erika*, 12
School is great, but when you have to leave it is very sad cause you have to leave your old teacher. But you get a new teacher. That is fun.
--Catherine
Hi, my name is Sanna and my first day at school was good. It was good because I got to meet new people. I was so glad to get out of my old school because it seemed like I wasn't wanted. Now I am. Its good to get away from all the bad things that happened last school year. This is my experience at a new school. PS: I did not miss my friends because they did me wrong...
--Sanna
I am homeschooled Christian half of my life...
--Emily
Darrnn...My hallway locker doesn't open...: [ Only my P. E. Locker...
--Daryl
I experienced that when I went to a new school you have new friends. But I still miss my old friends. But my old friends told me to make new ones at my new school, and that's what I did. I made two new friends at my new school.
--Jose, 11
I've had to go to three schools in my life. In elementary I had to go to a different school because there was a school that closed, so some kids that went to that school went to my school. For that reason I had to transfer schools. It was really scary at first because I didn't know anyone. But then I made many new friends!!! So if you have to transfer schools, dont be scared, because it always turns out good in the end!!!
--Faith, 11
Going to a new school was hard for me. It was really hard to make all new friends, and I didnt have that many at first. But as the year went on I became the kind of person everybody loved to be around and I gained way more friends. I wasnt caught up in the school curriculum, but I eventually caught on by asking more questions and asking for help when I needed it.
--Tayler, 11
I think going to a new school is kind of cool, you know what I mean? I was kind of nervous because everybody that's older than me is really bigger than me and my friends. We were laughing at them cause we thought they were going to step on us the first day of school! But I hope your first day goes better than mine!
--Jaynna, 11
When I went to a new school I felt so sick. I got really dizzy and had popcorn in my stomach.
--Ashley, 11
No, I am not going to a new school.
--Brejohnna
Well I started middle school, which I thought was scary. Then after a few days I got used to middle school, only the hardest thing for me was to run around the sixth grade area and look for all of my classes. But physical education was the easiest place to go to because it was just to go to the yard. Well that is my story. I hope you liked reading about this.
--Yohana, 11
I had experience, yes. I do miss my friends in California. I have new friends now.
--Jessena, 11
I never went to a new school but I just go to this school Im in.
--Benny, 8
I've experienced going to a new school before, but it was in the same town. I just moved up a grade! I was kind of scared because it was really big, but other then that I think it was really fun! When you get in sixth grade you'll love it!
--Jamie, 11
YEP! YEP! YEP! All of those things are a definite YES! I miss my bestest friend Hayley and I made two new girl bbf's. And I love my new life a lot even though I miss the old one! Its all ok now.
--Rebecca, 9
I think its hard to move to a different school. Like 5th grade to 6th. You will be the little kid in the school again.
--Isaac, 11
Going to middle school is weird at first, but now I like it. But I do miss my friends who didn't go to this middle school.....
--Logan, 11
The only new school I ever went to was Pre-K to elementary to middle school. It was a huge change! I could never get my locker open. And I missed half of second period because I could not get my gym locker open. Then the 7th grade girls came in to change. I was so embarrassed, and got in so much trouble. I know miss Sunnyside and some of the people from Sunnyside only because they went to Highview. Like Megan G. If you see her tell her Dezii says hi. Tell Carly T. Hi too!!!
--Desiree, 12
I love it cuz I have a new reputation.
--Zineb, 12
I did miss my old school. Katie, did you know that the school I go to now is so weird. The school ends at 6:00 pm and they don't let us go to the bathroom because grade 1 has to use it before we use it. But who cares? I am in grade 3 now so I go upstairs. I just made 1 friend named Tia A.
--Arsh, 8
Well Im in a catholic school now, so I really miss my bff Emo. He rocked my world! But he never came back anymore, well, I mean to my new school. And Morgan, whatever. U aint Vanessa Ann, so keep dreaming!
--Monica, 11
"Well...I just started this new school...Most of the people are really nice...Some are rude...I did make a friend on my first day there though...Her name is Valyssa!! She's like my #1 person I look for at school...Though...She isn't in my class...Which stinks really bad. I actually met her at recess...And so far I've only had 3 weeks of school and she's already my best friend...I love her. She rocks...And just a shout-out if she ever reads this, LOL. HEY V!! I LOVE YOU!! I HOPE WE STAY BEST FRIENDS FOREVER!!! LOVE, Macy. LOL. Yeah. I'm kinda weird in ways, but hey. I love my best friend : D."
--Macy, 10
"Yeah I have actually. My first year at school was actually this year. I'd been homeschooled my whole life and I went to public school when I was in 8th grade!"
--Kyle, 13
"I love playing football with my friends this year."
--Noah, 9
"I think middle school is fun, but what about high school?"
--Sara, 11
"Yes, this my second week of school, and I did make new friends but the sad thing is that my BEST FRIEND FOREVER... we didn't have any classes together except chorus. And we can see each other at lunch and in the hallway, but I'll enjoy the time we have each other."
--Anjelica, 12
"I recently entered Middle School. If you're still in Elementary School, you'll be glad to know that 6th grade isn't hard to get used to. Alright...I admit, you can easily get lost on the first day...But the teachers totally expect this and will help you if you just ask. Locker combos? Easy. You turn it to your number clockwise, then the second number counter-clockwise, and then it clicks to your last number. No, it's not like on Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide (on Nick) --When the lunch is toxic waste and the teachers are evil. If that show was true-to-life, many people would consider it boring. XDDD."
--Courtney, 11
"I very much miss my friend."
--Kk
"Yes I'm at a new school, but it's a little bouishe. Plus I'm the ONLY "Black" kid in my class."

--Lilly5210, 13
"This school year is so much better then last year by far. My teacher is nice this year because I changed schools. Now I'm at Fitzpatrick. By the way, my real name is Vanessa ann. I love Zac Efron sooo much. Well, bye now."

--Angel
"Well, not really. I've been homeschooled all my life, and it's awesome. Sometimes I wish I could go to public school, but my mom says that's not an option. So I go to homeschool!"
--Leia, 11
"I don't like school."
--Brejohnna
"Yeah, I have experienced going to a new school. I'm in a new one right now. I don't miss my friends because almost all of them are with me. But I miss my friends that didn't go to my school. A LOT! But I did make new ones. They're really nice and really cool!"
--Odalys, 11
"Last month, I went to a new school called Zamora Elementary. I was in third grade. My teacher was Karen M. She is a lot fun and I am very fond of her. I like Zamora Elementary a lot..."
--Jarrod, 8
"Yes I did go to a new school. At first I did, but then I got new friends and they are so cool..."
--Fanny, 13
"Katie, no, because I still have my old friends at my school. From Arshdeep."
--Arshdeep, 10
"My first day of school was actually a lot better than I thought. At first I was really nervous about fitting in, but soon I realized that even though some kids may have more friends than me, it's O. K. As long as you finish your homework, try not to be tardy and always do what is right, school will be a breeze. : )."
--Christianah, 12
"I like it."
--Ji Hyun, 4
"School is hard if you just moved. A word from the wise: be yourself..."
--Sruti, 10
"A new school is a new beginning. You can have new experiences, friendships, and new adventures, but still look back and smile on the old ones. It can be scary, but when you face it with a smile and God by your side, it's easier."
--Haley, 11
"Yeah, I've gone 2 new schools like...Ummmmmm...Let me count really fast...I've had 2 switch about 5 times, and heck yeah I missed my friends!!! Well of course I made new ones! Duh!!!"
--Noneofyourbeeswax, 11
"I changed schools 3 times K-4th then I Moved and 5th-6th and Now this year 7th I'm at a new school. It's pretty fun but the 7th is over crowded. It's like you get a new life to start over and forget the mistakes you made and really forget your PAST. Also you make new friends and NEW CRUSHES, BOYFRIENDS!!! DCSHOEUSA RULES!!!"
--Dumb_Chix
"Yeah, I just outgrew my middle school and now I go to the high school. I don't really miss my friends because I get to see them sometimes in class or lunch, but I do sort of miss seeing everyone I know all the time. I haven't really made any new friends yet, but I sure hope I do!"
--Estelle
"I homeschool."
--Tammi, 12
"Hey Katie, My real name is Dorsa. I really miss my old school when I use to be a child leader (my best friend's the captain) and popular. I totally miss my gang! And all the fashion scenes. We had a lot of crushes too. I just miss them so much..."
--Fashion girl
"I moved from Canada to America because I did not like it down there and I had to leave all my friends. And I met some new friends at my school. I still call my old friends on the phone and I miss my friends because we do a lot of things. We play outside. And I want to move back up there so bad that it makes me want to go up there by myself. And I miss my other teacher. Her name was Mrs. Smith. She was a nice teacher in the school and she gave me candy when I left from down there."
--Destiny, 10
"My new school is great. I wear a uniform. I'm in grade two. I love my school. I made new friends: Jennifer and Funmi. I like to call her Fun-mee, and I like to call Jennifer Jen. My other friend is Ginyette. I call her Get and I. B. K. I don't call her anything. She has such a easy name. My other friend is Bussy. I call her Bus. And I have Dina my friend, but also my Grade 3 Buddy. I call her nothing, just Dina. And I have Sema as my friend, but never tried to talk to her, just shared my lunch. See? you can make lots of friends. You don't have to be cool or have long hair and good-looking hair. All you need to do is be nice to them. Remember: NO BULLYING! BE FRIENDS!"
--Priya B.
"I hope one of you new students enjoyed your new school, and I hope you students made lots of new friends..."
--Gaby, 10
"I have experienced going to a new school. I missed my friends, but I made new ones too. My new school is different from my old school in almost anyway. I moved this year. I still miss my old friends, but I get along at my new school too."
--Michelle, 8
"I didn't make new friends ''cause I am in the same school. But I got new teachers. I am in 4th grade and I'm sad 'cause my friends are not in my class. But last year I was in 3rd grade and I miss my teacher Miss Gaytan. But I see her, and my cousin got her, and I got sad, and I miss her. And I got to sing. Oh, and when I came from school, my mom brought me a bear. And I miss my brother 'cause he went to the army. And I hope that he is okay and I hope that he sleeps okay and eats well."
--Vanessa, 9
"I thought my teachers were going to hate me, and be mean. I thought I was never going to start with an "A" and finish with an "A"."
--Tyler, 12
"It's very hard going to a new school."
--Laine
"Hey everybody. Last year I was in a new school. First I was kind of nervous..."
--Amina, 10
"I can't open my locker at any school I go to."
--Anonymous
"OMG! I moved from America to Canada! It was such a big change for me! I had to leave all of my friends! I went to this new school and I made SOME new friends! But still I wish I could go back to my old school and see my old friends!"
--Princess, 13
"Yeah!!!!! So many times! I moved to Canada in the 3rd grade- so okay, that's one school, then the next year I changed schools once more (the other school was too far away), then the next year I moved schools again. I stayed in that school for 2 years. Then I started high school, so that's a new school. And I moved again this year, and so I start a new high school. Then next year I am moving again, so that's another school...Mhm. At first I saw moving schools as something I hated, but now I do want to change, because I start a new adventure. But then next year, and the others...don't u think is a bit too much? =[."
--Maria-Paula
"I switched schools, and now go to a charter school. I switched to a charter school where I hardly knew anybody. But this summer I met a girl at camp who was going to the same school as me, and now we are best friends. So Gracie, I thank u for being my friend."
--Tjcagurl101, 11
"Well...I have been homeschooled for 5 years, and I wanna go back to public school, but I don't know what to do. So...What should I do??"
--Kimi, 11
"Yeah. I have to move to a new school. 5th grade was 'sposed to be the best year EVER at my old school. On the last day of school, there was going to be moonwalks, water, a rock wall, and a whole lot more! And only the 5th grade could do it! My stepmom is a teacher at my old school and she helped me with anything. All my friends cried when I told them I would never see them again. I cried too. : (."
--Melanie, 10
"I'm going to a new school this year for grade 7, and I'm scared to. I went to a new school last year when we moved here."
--Aimee, 12
"I experienced going to a new school two times. I missed my friends. I thought that I wasn't going to, but I made new friends."
--Nicole, 13
"Okay, it's hard, because you don't know that many people at a school that you've never been to, which is common. You might get used to it and you'll make friends. But that's not how my new school was like. It had dumb rules. Have you ever heard of those kind of schools that have pretend money? Like, if you do something nice or useful, they give you one. Well, my new school had that. I was used to that, because my old school was like that too, except that my new school had a court. You know, the ones where you get fined. That's the one. They slam the hammer right in front of your face and sometimes when you haven't paid off your fine yet, and there's a field trip, well, you don't get to go until or unless you don't have a fine. Which stinks."
--Tomboy Bookworm, 11
"Well I am going to go to 5th grade, but next year I'm going to a private school in Palos Verdes. But it goes from pre-school to high school. I live in LA. My friends all will go to the same school. I will miss my friends. What should I do, go private or public?"
--Gorgeos, 10
"I am going to a new school this year and I don't know what to expect. The last school I went to was a Christian school, and now I'm going to a public high school. I wonder if people are going to go around swearing all the time, or what is up."
--Someone, 13
"I'm going to a new school this year and I am so scared!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
--T-Gurl, 12
"I'm going to middle school and only one of my friends is taking the same courses I am. I don't even know what to do on the first day of school."
--Azayˆ¢, 10
"Have you ever felt weird about going to a new school? I have."
--Madison, 8
"I moved to WI and have to go to a school I'm totally new to! I am so scared I won't fit in, but my crush (who also goes to the school) assures me I'll fit in. And another girl I met (who goes to the school) said the boys will be head over heels in love with me. So I feel a little better. Thanks for taking your time to read this..."
--Samantha, 11
"I move schools a lot! In kindergarten I went to this really big private school, then in grade one I went to a public school, grade 2 and half of grade 3 I went to this small private school, and then for the other half of grade 3 I went to a public school. Then in grade 4, and 6 I went to another public school (I'm going to grade 7). And when school starts again I'm moving to private school."
--Ore, 11
"Akuni, 11: I'm going to Nova Middle School too, and none of my friends will be there. They're going to another Middle School. This is soooooooooo unfair!"
--Karisma, 11
"I have experienced going to a new school. But I didn't lose any of my friends. All of my friends went with me. I was transferring to middle school. But I still made new friends. I still keep memories from some off my little friends that I had there at elementary school."
--Lanicqwa, 11
"I've changed schools three times. I still keep in contact with my second-grade friends. I did make new ones, though. One was named Katie and the other was Virginia..."
--HermioneFan66
"I'm going to a new elementary school soon for fifth grade, and I'm just not ready to leave my friends and teachers. It's just to hard for me to deal with."
--Destiny, 10
Yes, I am going into a new Elementary (Lewis, my old school, only went up to 5, my new one goes up to 6). I miss all of my friends at Lewis A LOT! I moved only 30 minutes from where I used live. But when you think about it, Its a LONG way when U when born and raised there, where all your friends live. I dont consider this my home. Im not ready to forget loving Portland!
--Kasey, 11
I change of school a lot. The last year I passed to middle school and it was a big change of school. I do not miss my friends at all because I keep sharing with them and I make new ones. This year I miss some of them because I don't have the opportunity to talk with them, but I make new ones again. I miss them because I have passed a lot of years with them too.
--Naty, 12
Yes. It was scary at first but I met new friends, and I felt like I was at my old school again.
--Alex, 11
I am going to Nova Middle School. You have to wear a uniform there, and you have to have 8 classes. My sister and our stepsister are going to the high school. Theyre only 12! Anyway, Im not scared, cuz only a few of my friends are going to that school. Good luck to all going to middle school.
--Akuni, 11
No. Yes, I do miss my friends from my old school. A little bit.
--Willow, 12
Dear Katie, Yes I have experienced going to a new school. You do miss your old friends. If you want to talk to them, get their phone numbers, than make a phone list and ask what times theyll be home, then call them at that time. And yes, you do make a lot of new friends. You might make friends the first day, or it just takes a while. I hope these help you.
--Alicia, 10
I am going to middle school. I am so scared. It is so new to me already.
--Leandra, 11
Have you ever been The geek in school? Have you ever been Popular??
--Audra, 11
Next year Im going back to the states and I'll be going to a public school. Of course I'll miss my friends, and my dream is to make new ones and become POPULAR!!
--Alicia Ruth, 11
When I was 9, I heard my parents talking about moving. I remembered how I felt. Things started to run in my mind, like 'Why are we moving? 'and What about my friends? '. Time went by and I said goodbye to my friends and teacher. A few years went by and got used to my new school (sometimes I still miss my old friends).
--Courtney, 11
Im going to Northeast middle school next year. I am nervous because all my friends are going to James martin and Piedmont. So I need some advice on how to introduce myself to new people cause I am really shy!!!!
--Rachel, 11
New school is like a new beginning. You can start all over and make new friends. When I moved from Arizona to California I was pretty scared and shy. And now that I have new friends Im all loud and funny. Its pretty nice moving to a new school, and I love all my friends that are with me. D: P.
--Theresa C., 13
I am entering the fifth grade and next year. For middle school I am going to a new public school (I go to a private school). Im not scared because I know that if I keep myself open to make friends and focus in class I will do fine!
--Anonymous
I am going to a new school. I did not move or anything, but Im going into jr. High and Im nervous.
--Bre, 12
Yes, I had to switch from a school when I was starting 1st grade that I've stayed in for 5 years now, and now Im going to be experiencing it again as I go to middle school. Yes, I made new friends that I still have today, and over the years have made new friends, and sadly, bullies.
--Jennifer, 13
Moving to middle school was a change of pace for me. I missed all of my 5th grade friends, and I so badly wanted to be popular. The thing is, you just have to relax. Go with the flow. You'll find new friends. I found a whole bunch of people I love being around.
--Shannon
In second grade, I was at Ryder Elementary in NY. I had Mr. Reynolds as my teacher (he was also my first grade teacher). He was okay in first grade, but WAY too strict in second. He even gave me suspensions! I had to be homeschooled for the rest of second grade by Mr. Forman. My parents are looking into sending me to another school for third grade. I hope third grade will be better than second.
--Millard, 8
I dont know, but it will happen to me.
--Miley
No I havent, but I go to this school called Gerald Wright Elementary.
--Alexis, 8
I am going from being an 8th grader to a 9th grader and switching from my middle school to a Jr. High, so I would have to leave everyone I knew anyways. I was dealing with a lot of stuff at my old school, like my ex friends lying about me and stuff, so I am happy to move. I'll let you know later how it goes.
--Jerrika
Are you going to a new school? Do you miss your friends? Are you making new friends? If not then keep trying. It was hard for me. All of my friends moved away.
--Julie, 12
When I had finished fifth grade, we moved to another city. I miss my old friends, but I have a lot of new ones here who I have a lot in common with.
--Amanda, 13
I have to move from Ellijay all the down to Kennesaw. Me and my friend really miss each other. I don't even know if I like the school. I wish she was with me. It would make school soooooo much better.
--Anonymous, 13
I recently left my school, and am going to a new one this year. I totally miss my friends, but Im sure Im going to make new ones this year!
--Emily, 11
When I was in Kindergarten I went to a public school. Then I was homeschooled in 1st and 2nd grade. Then I went to a private school in 3rd grade that I still go to now. I was so nervous at the open house, I cried. Then all the girls in my class came up to me (well except for one girl who had just left who has ended up being one of my best friends) and told me they wanted to be friends with me. I felt so much better then!
--Ballerina<3, 13
Zoe, 11; don't be scared! It may seem hard at first to leave your old school, but trust me, private schools are a lot smaller than public schools, so you will have a smaller chance of getting lost or ending up in the wrong room, and a larger chance of making new friends! I go to a private school, and I love it!
--Cocobean, 13
Maika, 8: I had to move before. It was kind of hard leaving my old house. To get over your sadness of moving, look at the great things about your new house and your new neighborhood. Although you have to leave your friends, you should still stay in touch (like I did). Try making new friends in your neighborhood (I did! Actually, when I first moved in my neighbor who is now my friend yelled out the window Hi people across the street! I hope you like your new house!! She seemed really nice and we ended up being friends! ). As for your new school, do the same thing! I really hope this advice works! ~Have a safe move!
--Dancinqueen, 13
I had to move 3 schools now. I stayed at one school for Pre-School. It was a public school, but my parents wanted me to learn religion. So I went to a private school for Kindergarten and half of 1st grade. We had to move and I couldn't say bye to anyone, not even my best friend Colleen. I then went to a private school for the next half of 1st grade, then second grade, and then third. I will go to the same school for fourth grade.
--Angelique, 9
I know EXACTLY how you feel. It was just last year when I was entering the 5th grade. I was SO worried for the same reasons, but I did make new friends and you will too. Most likely you will miss your old friends, but be able to stay in touch with them by writing letters or calling them on the phone.
--Hayley, 11
Dear Katie: when I had to move school I was SO sad and angry. And when I got to my new school, I didn't have any friends left, and I still haven't. Bye you all. x x x x x x.
--Coconut, 9
I have experience going in a new school. First I liked it for a few months but then some kids were being mean to me. I tried my best so they could accept me. Luckily, 3 girls became my friends. But I had a bully named Jorge. In 3rd grade he was very good to me. But I did something wrong or something bad to make him feel very bad so I guess he wanted to do the same as what I did to him. But he did this till 4th grade.
--Anonymous
I am about to experience going to a new school because Im moving to Virginia soon. I'll be going to high school there, which is sad, because I'll miss all my friends here in New Jersey. But the good thing is making new friends and meeting new people. It might not be bad as I think, but I dont want to leave New Jersey. I was born here. I was raised in Atlanta, Georgia. I guess we have to go because my mom already got the place. On moving day I will cry because I will miss my friends and my old home here.
--Melissa, 8
Im moving this summer because of my dads job and Im switching from public school to private school, and Im really scared.
--Zoey, 11
I have gone to 3 schools so far, and I have kept my real friends and made lots of new ones.
--Carolynn, 11
I miss some of my friends, but my other friends move with me. Of course I make new friends, but I like to focus on the wonderful friends that you already have and trust.
--Anna, 12
When I went to school at Griffen Elementary I stole more than a hundred bucks. Everyone hated me and my friends teachers talked about me. My family doesnt trust me, my teacher and friends dont either. I hate my life.
--Samantha, 9
Everyone hated me when I was new. They called me dumb.
--Anonymous, 9
I moved to a new school. I was sooo sad. Lots of people didn't want to be my friend. After two months I found a friend.
--Swati, 10
No, and I hope I never have to!!
--Tiffany, 12
Happy 4th of July, everyone! Okay, Katie, I have to answer your question fast because my family and I are going down to the beach soon. I have experienced going to middle school, but all my buds are there. So...Guess Im done here!
--Dorianna, 13
I only have one friend in my new school. Her name is Reishelle. My new school is SLULES or Saint Louis Laboratory University Laboratory Elementary School. SLU is the best school or hospital in Baguio City.
--Leiza, 8
When I went to a new school, I wasn't accepted. And the day I came to the new school, I was still some sick from traveling, so I threw up right on my desk...Luckily my teachers were nice.
--Noname, 10
I moved to Applewood, I changed schools, and halleluiah! I don't have any friends (except Taylor and LiZhi who live 1 hour away). Applewood is just OK to me.
--Taylor, 9
When I went to a new school for the first week I kinda kept to myself. But I did talk to the others, but let my creative side do all the talking. Basically I say be yourself.
--Ashley, 11
Yes, I have experienced going to a new school. When I first moved, I thought I was going to hate it because the teachers in my old school were very mean. But instead, on my first day at my new school, the teachers were really nice! I was so surprised, I could hardly say a thing. Now I love my new school and I hope I never move back to my old school.
--Hannah, 9
I went to 3 different elementary schools and I was shy and I had friends, but I was just the background and didn't stand out. But then at my 3rd new school, I was identified as Gifted and became one of the smart kids.
--Izzy, 13
I have experienced that. When I was 7 I transferred to a different elementary school. I missed my friends, but the new school was very nice and welcoming, and not as many bullies. I made really nice new friends. My old friends from my old school had forgotten me. When I tried to talk to them, they'd turn their back on me.
--Joanne, 10
Nope. I am homeschooled Christian and I am very happy!!!
--Emily
Im going to move in a few days 51 blocks/avenues away from my friends and my favourite tree to climb [waaaaaaaaaaaah! ]. My question is how do you deal with the great memories you had in your old place and how do you deal with it?
--Maika, 8
Im going to a new school this august. This will be my second time moving, but I will not miss my school because it's a dumb school.
--Abby, 10
When I left Fairview the German language school. Must give 'em propz!!! I had told all my friendz that I was leavin and they all said they'd miss me after I left. I got sent to the phoenix community leaning center. I felt that Fairview was wayyyy better 'cuzz they didnt have dorky lame uniforms, but they made kidz very successful azz they grow.
--Theitgirl
I was scared on my first day of a new school but then I finally got used to it and got good grades studied a lot it was fun but then on the last day I cried!
--Jasmeena, 11
My mom and dad might send me to Military school. I not afraid because I want to be in the Army. Yeah, Im gonna miss my old friends but when Im 18 Im going in the Army.
--Vanya, 9
I recently moved to Texas, and I had to go to a new school. It had no orchestra, which totally stunk because I was a violinist (1st chair). The school placed me in easy classes but the teachers moved me to Pre-AP. I met these to kids who were totally like me Kathryn and Jenn and we ended up being my best friends. I did track and xcountry and loved it!
--Anna, 13
No but I will be and Im getting separated from ALL of my friends that Ive known forever! Even my best guy friend! He's my crush, too! Boohoohoo! : - (. WAHWAHWAH.
--Countrygirl, 11
Im going to be sad.
--Adriana
I moved to a new town when I was in 2nd grade. I remember being scared to death and praying I could go back to my old school and friends. However, once I met the kids in my class I realized I had nothing to be afraid of. I kept my old friends and was able to make many new ones. Don't be discouraged just because youre going to a new school. Take it as a new opportunity to meet people that could be your lifelong friends...
--Amanda
My parents want to take me to an other school next year...But Im really against this idea...'cause I was in the same school from the first grade & I don't wanna be seprated with my friends now...Even if I know that I can make new friends easily...
--Alex
No. I have never experienced going to a new school. I have been basically in the same spot my whole life. (I actually enjoy being in the same place because I know my place and my city well, and I don't have to learn about a new city. ) If I would have to move, yes! I would miss my friends dearly! It would be a bit of a challenge to make new friends, but I know that I would be able to make new friends!
--BusyGirl123
New schools stink, and I don't have any friends, and Im happy that way. So there. *whimpers* OKAY IM LIKE TOTALLY LONELY!!!! I MISS MY OLD FRIENDS SO MUCH!!!
--Evangeline
Totally experienced that dude. It feels sooooooooooooooooo bad. I kind of feel that I had that feeling a long time and a long time ago!
--Sweetie pie
Yeahh. It kinda stunk. I had to make all new friends; but the good thing was that I made a whole bunch of new friends. : ].
--MONiCA. : ], 12
Last year, I moved here. I hate this school. It stinks because there are only 5 people in my grade. So bye.
--Brianne, 12
Well my question is that when I have to go to middle school I have heard a lot if bad things they do there, so Im scared that when I go there I might get lost in the school or I might get into a fight there. Maybe they also might make try to do things I dont want to do. So what do you think I should do about my new school problem? If you can answer my problem thats great but if you cant that fine. I know youre probably busy answering other peoples questions, so just dont worry about it. Well bye, and thanks.
--Jesse, 11
Yes because I am going to a new school next year and I am excited but scared because I am gonna be in 5th grade and most of the 5th grade teachers at my old school knew me so I am afraid to tell my new teacher when I get my period and stuff. I am going to miss my friends but I will make new ones!
--Carrie Ann, 10
I hate moving and going to a new school. You have to start over with new people and most the time if its not a full up military school than most people have been friends a long time. I like making new friends but the first day of school is always hard. Its good though when you finally make a good friend at the school who helps you out and shows you around...
--Kelsey
It is all work.
--Anonymous
Yes when I was in 3rd grade, we moved. My dad got a new job. I lost my friend, a boy, Tommy, and others. So my little sister Nicole, my youngest sister is only 2, yet she goes to daycare and Ashley is in preschool, best Jessica.
--Rachal, 10
Also they wear uniforms to school now. Ashley is in school, 1st grade.
--Rachal, 10
Did you miss your friends? Did you make new ones? How about boyfriends?
--Karla, 10
When we move we go to a new school, but my parents didn't understand that I had friends. And I can't see them again.
--Sedona, 10
Yes, I have experienced that and it stinks you will miss your old best friends but you will always make new ones!
--Tandi
Me and my sisters are going to a new school and Im not to scared but the other school we went to my older sister ran away my friends and then I had to sit with her friends. It was so stupid.
--Emma, 11
Well I am going to middle school next year and I am moving to a new school. But I also did move to school in kindergarten and third grade. I did make new friends all you have to do is introduce yourself and just talk and be cool.
--Rachel, 11
My first day of school was scary. I didn't know anyone. Now I know everyone!
--Anonymous
Well no but I read a book about 2 kids who are spies and they have moved from state to state about a million times and at the end the dad says c'mon we're moving.
--Jon, 9
Im homeschooled right now (and I hate homeschool) but Im going to start going to public school and I don't know anything about public school so Im nervous. I was wondering if you guys can tell me what public school is like?
--Malikah, 11
I like going to a new school and know why because this year I get to be in 4th grade.
--Anissa, 9
The answers are: yes, yes, no.
--Grace, 10
No.
--Mira
When I go to my new middle school next year my best friend won't be with me. Middle school is hard enough but without my bff- I just dont know.
--Casey, 11
I just went to a new school. I made new friends before the year even started. I didn't miss my old friends becuz I realized, they weren't my friends! They were fake! Now I know real, true friends are better!
--Samantha, 12
I had to go to a new school when I was in 3rd grade. My best friend and I used to be close together, but now we're further apart. I still get to see her occasionally, but I miss her a lot. I made a number of loyal friends at my new school, but sometimes I feel that my old school was more harmonious.
--PuppyLove, 12
Well, I remember the day I went to my new school. I was in 2nd grade. Everyone stared at me, and eventually I made some new friends who still are my BFs now. My old friends and I still IM and email all the time. No wonder I have so many people on my buddy list...Lol.
--Elizabeth, 10
No I maybe will.
--Rebecca
One time my mom said that I was going to a regular school and I thought it would be fun. But then she got a curriculum for home school. And I really wanted to go.
--Joshua
I have experienced it a million times. It's not hard except when I had to move from state. I have 2 best friends now. Yamina and Sarah.
--Chilean Girl Gery, 11
I am going on to middle school in 3-4 weeks. What will I do?
--Amber, 10
Yeah. In kindergarten I went to one school and after it was over I had to go to a different school for first grade. I went there 1-5 grade. But now Im getting ready to go into Eighth grade in September. Yes, I made new friends but it was hard.
--Cameron, 13
Well. I AM going to a new school. But I have been the new" girl once. I was very shy and didn't make friends for about 2 and a half weeks!
--Kate, 12
Katie, Yes. I did go to a new school before. I missed a lot of friends and I miss them now too. But I made new ones. Now I am not that lonley how I used to be.
--Michelle, 10
"As a 4 yr old, I went to private school. When I was 7, then I went to public school and I still am!"
--Alyssa, 10
"I started going to kindergarten at Crossroads Elementary. After one normal day my mom picked me up from school & I looked out the window & I saw that I was somewhere that I had never been before. I was at Hillside Elementary my current school!"
--Maddie, 8
"Yeah...But I got used to it real quick."
--Aang, 9
"Not really, unless you count switching from pre-school to kindergarten to elementary school to homeschool switching schools. I don't make friends easily even though I try really hard to smile and be friendly."
--Flyindolfin32, 11
"I'm homeschooled but in August I'm going to BareBranch!!! It's gonna be sooo fun!!! But I'm a Christian, I was going to go to LightHouse but my mom decided I'm going to BareBranch because it's probably more fun it has more stuff to do in it and LightHouse probably won't be very that fun because it's probably like kinda plain, ya know? Well bye!!!"
--Hallie, 8
Yes I've been in a lot of new schools and I probably miss my old friends and I didn't make a lot of friends.
--Darlene, 10
Well when I moved schools I kinda had absolutely no friends for about a week. I was alone and then all of these little kids said I was pretty and asked if I wanted to play ponies with them. Of course I was in grade 1.
--Kahlia, 11
I had to transfer to MCH from another school in PA and it was horrible. All the kids hated me because I was new and it was very sad because nobody would be my friend except two girls. But when I got to middle school everything was great. Now I almost have a BF and I have TONS of friends!!!
--Lexa, 12
I've been to 2 different schools, not counting the 2 different homeschool books.
--Macy, 10
When I go to a new school I feel very nervous. I miss my old friend because I had fun moments. But going to a new school is like very hard to do. I just hope I could make new friends...
--Jerome, 12
I have experienced going to a new school when I first came to sail. I just came in to the door and hung my all my stuff and every one was looking at me because I was a new student and I didn't know anyone. I didn't have a lot of friends at my old school but I guess I did miss them but I did make new friends at sail and I got to know every one of my classmates and I have made more new here then un my old school. That is my experience of going to a new school and making friends.
--Carlos, 12
Going to a new school is some time fun and some time it is not. Some time it is fun because you meet new people. Some time it is not because some people are mean to you. Some time it can be hard because some time you dont fit in. But going to a new school can be fun.
--NERY, 12
Going to a new school was hard for me because I missed my friends and I didn't think I fit in. Going to a new school is still hard for me now. Especially with more subjects less free tie and tons more home work. I think it will be a cool new experience though because I get to make new friends (both girls and boys). I also think it will be fine so I keep an open mind.
--Nysha, 11
Ive moved 4 times. It doesnt feel good when u move. Especially when you made friends. How do I get over this??????????????????
--Mkayla, 9
I am starting middle school this fall. How is it like? Are the teachers nice?
--Michelle, 9
Im going to a new school in August. None of my friends go to the same school I do though. : ( Oh well, I'll make new friends, and still keep my old ones. ('cause Im homeschool right now and most of my friends are from church! ).
--Macy, 10
I have experienced going to a new school, because when I moved it was kind of a hard time for me. And I didn't really have any friends when I went in the 5th grade, because no one really liked me.
--Caroline, 13
School ends in 2 months. After that Im switching schools and going to the (gasp) MIDDLE SCHOOOL!!! All my friends r gonna go 2 the school Im not going to. Im NERVOUS (and excited) but mostly nervous!
--CuteGirl, 11
Yes, Ive moved five times. Its sort of fun except you have to make all new friends.
--Adrienne, 12
I have moved cross the country 6 times since I was born, so yeah, I basically had to make new friends. OMG Im moving back to CALIFORNIA IN TWO YEARS!! It's where I lived when I was 4 and 5, it's also where I BELONG!! I hate where I live now. It's a dingy little almost-all-white town in Massachusetts...
--Chloe, 11
When your family moves it's TOUGH because you are meeting new people, new places, and new schools. I have moved 15 times since I was born. It was hard but thankfully I have been in the same place for 3 years.
--Courtney, 11
Yeah it was the big move from elementary to middle I miss my old friends but I made a whole bunch of new ones so don't sweat it if you are going to a new school just be yourself!
--Mati, 12
I like it.
--Isaiah
Cory, 10: Hey! Im from British Columbia, Canada too! I love it here it is sooo beautiful. What province do you live in now?
--Bri
I have never been to a new school and I dont think that I would so thats it.
--Shelby, 8
I had to switch schools in 1st Grade, but now I have to leave the school Im currently in to go to middle school. Im so upset! : (.
--Noname
I've never gone to any other then Holy Trinity School.
--Tessa, 9
I have never been to a different school, but I know one thing: if you ever move and have to go to a new school don't be shy. Jump right into the fun and be yourself!!!!!!!!!!!
--Hailey, 12
Yes, I miss them. I loved them very much. I am alone.
--Alexandra, 12
Yes.
--Audrey, 11
Going to St. Mary's Academy! They accepted me! Awesome! Wish me luck!!
--Sarah
I moved from Italy, and I left all my friends behind. I made some new ones, and they are really nice! I know that I have to move again now, this time, I have to move to New York! I am still a little scared but I know I am going to be all right!
--Sophie, 12
I haven't made any friends in my new school! I am now kinda sorry I didn't look around at the other schools I could have picked.
--Paul, 13
Since my mom is in the military we are moving and I dont want to leave Hawaii. I first went to school there. So it is pretty hard leaving the state you love.
--Julia, 9
Well I don't miss my friends because they go here too. My new school is so hi-tech!
--Garrett, 11
I haven't yet, but my best friend in the whole world is from Texas. She moved from lots of friends. P. S: I just read most of the older posts on this topic and there's another Courtney...And the same age! : -) Hope nobody's confused.
--Courtney, 11
I moved to a different school in year seven because I was getting bullied, it really helped me out actually. Cos I have made new friends and I havent got bullied once. It really helps, you should try it if youre getting bullied.
--Jordan, 13
Yes. I missed my friends. I made new ones.
--CoolBoy, 8
I do miss them. Its hard to get new ones. But, when you get use to it, you'll find some friends in no time!
--Courtney, 11
I have! It was real hard because it was during Katrina. I had to go to school in FL. I had 2 friends and meet nice people but most people thought I was mean and insulted me the whole 6 weeks! The hardest part was not knowing. I didn't now when I was going home or if I was every going home. I had to shopping for clothes because I only brought 3 outfits and 1 pair of shoes. Also girls would spread rumors about me. One day they were talking about stuff they would give to kids in Katrina and I started crying because I had nothing to give. All my stuff was at home! I didn't know if I had a home. On the last day of school people were nice to me. I was glad I was going home! Even the mean kids finally realized what they did and said sorry for everything you went through. My house did lose its roof and I lost only like a couple of stuff.
--No Name Please, 10
Only from preschool to elementary. I didnt really have friends.
--CuteGirl, 11
When it was my last day at Bensley Elementary school I was nervous about going to Chalkley Elementary school because I thought that my new teacher wouldn't like me and kids wouldn't like me. So then my mom had to pick me up and take me to my new school. Then when I went to my new class my new teacher introduced me to all of the kids in my class. So the kids told me their names and guess what!!! I MADE A LOT OF NEW FRIENDS and their names are Cythia, Kala, Jade, Kiante, Ariel, Jenna, and Stephanie. P. S I like my new school!!!
--Taylor, 9
I am home schooled but I might go to CHRISTIAN School. PS I have been homeschooled since kindergarten - 5th grade. PPS ALL keep you in PRAYERS MEGHAN-13!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
--Marissa, 11
I've experienced that before when I was little. At that time, I moved around a lot. I usually start school in the middle of the year and that's okay with me. But now, I want to start school in the beginning of the year because I don't want to miss things at my new school and my old school.
--Jenny, 11
I have to go to different schools every year and I never see my friends.
--Agal, 9
Do you know if youre going to have a great day at your new school?
--Stacey, 9
Yes, YES, Yes!!! I have experienced going to a new school I mean who hasn't...But anywayz I did miss my old friends a lot even though I did make new ones.
--Ashaunti, 11

--Laura, 9
Ya a made lodes of new friends but I still miss my old ones.
--Isis, 11
My sister went to middle school last year and she loved it so I hope I love it too!
--Abbie, 11
I moved a lot when I was little. But I didn't miss my friends that much cause I didn't really think about it.
--Anonymous
I was checking out the comments and I saw a other person who is homeschooled like me! See I live up where no one is really around so (good news) I can't go to school and (bad news) I don't have that many friends because of it. But many of my friends have moved away so I think that is like changing schools. It's not that fun.
--Jamie, 10
I am moving to the mainland in July Im NOT FROM ALASKA! Im from HAWAII!!!
--Julia, 9
It was hard for me like, I was going to this school like ever since kindergarten and then in 6th grade I moved and then I went 2 this new school, where I got bullied for being the only white person, I only went there till 6th grade ended so, then for 7th I got 2 go to this other school and at least Im not being bullied! I was very nervous going to, 2 new schools, but I made friends at the school Im going to now!
--Ralph L, 13
Americangirl: I think Paris means Sevens Jeans, not Stevens.
--BeHappy
Going to a new school is tough because you have to make new friends but sometimes kids might just want to talk to you like that.
--Ambar
I didn't like the middle school I was in in the beginning of the year, so my parents didn't either and took me out. I couldn't manage myself at ALL so we thought it would work out better at a catholic school. But the catholic school was like a boot camp and I was miserable. So I went back to my first middle school and the problems got straightened out and everything was fine. It was a sad experience and it was a nightmare...
--Alexa, 12
Yes, I went to a new school. I missed Alyssa but I made new friends. Here are some. Cynthia, Lety, Veve, Matthew, Tan, I. J., Jason, and I guess that's all! P. S. I have a crush on I. J.
--Celine, 9
Im going to a new school in September. Im going to start fifth grade. I don't know what school Im going to yet. I wonder what it'll be like. Hooray.
--Autumn, 10
My school doesn't have cheerleading.
--Kristen, 10
Im sure I miss my friends at IML, my school, my aunty and everybody I know. It's a school in Sweden and it's a very long way and my mother had to leave me and I have stay with my siblings. I must speak in their language too I hope it's not too hard to learn and write. And I wish to have all the wonderful moments again with IML next time I come back to Britain. Good-bye everybody!
--Demon dog girl, 8
I just hate getting in trouble when you go in detention that stinks. You look like the guys in the sweet life of zack and cody I wander so sup and good bye.
--Khatija B, 9
I went to a new school in 5th grade and some girls picked on me because I was a year younger than them.
--Kiddist, 9
I have gone to about five schools since I started kindergarten. I manage to keep in touch with my friends and sometimes miss them, but I make other friends that I keep forever on the first day. Im actually pretty lucky because I (nicely) force myself upon them and they want to get to know me. The only way to make friends is to be one.
--Jen, 12
"Hey. Im not going 2 a new school, but a new kid is coming 2 our school I think 2morrow. His name is Spencer, and I don't know what 2 think of him. I keep thinking he is this kid who might b mean, or he could b nice, or he could b unsmart, (It's not nice 2 call people dumb) or he could b a genius. He WOULD have sat across from me, but my teacher wanted him 2 sit with boys. And because of that, I have 2 have a girl I REEEEEALLLY don't get along with 2 sit across from me. Im so FRUSTRATED!!!!!!!!!!!! I wanted to be able to sit across from him so I could get to know him and/or possibly become his friend. (I make friends Q-U-I-C-K!!! ) I don't know what 2 do!
--ILUVROK

Im moving to Wales, and I have to go to a new school, I don't any one there, and I don't no if I can cope.
--Alice, 10
When I moved, I really did miss my friends a lot because, it was hard getting used to a new school and make friends and I didnt have a lot of friends at my new school.
--Caroline, 13
I am homeschooled, and always have been, so I don't know what a lot like changing schools, but I do know what a lot like going to a new church, especially mine, because I've been going there since August and a lot December, and I've only made 2 close friends there, and a lot because all the other girls are really mean to me and my 2 friends, but we just ignore them and go on with what we where doing, and now that we've started doing that, and not letting them hurt our feelings, they've started to respect us more!
--Samantha, 9
I was born in Whitefish, Montana. I went to elementary there from K-2nd grade. Back then we didnt judge each other on how we looked. I was the girl who everyone wanted to play with. Then right before third grade my mom and stepdad took us to MidlandCity, Alabama! {my stepdad was from there}. I had to start school. I could barely understand the teachers. I made new friends{2}but it was hard. Here kids were more obese and most of them were black, which was much different from Montana. In fourth grade, I found out I was sitting by the most popular kid in school! Then as the year went on, we were best friends! I was one of the three! Then before I started fifth grade, we moved again. It was G. W. Long School. I loved this school! There was hardly any AA's. I missed my old life of being popular. I wasn't a geek or popular, but the popular girls weren't mean to me. One of them Emily, was my best friend. I even had a boyfriend just about all that year. After school on the bus, I made friends with Sierra. Now in sixth grade, Im pretty popular. My best friends are Sierra, Madison, Caroline, and many more. Of coarse I will always miss my old friends.
--Paris101, 11
Hey guys!! I just got Internet in my house, so I can come here whenever I want!! And ignore what I said about ZSIS, IT is soooooo awesome!! I know this is weird, but I have loads of friends, like Raed, Mohammad, Mohammad, Mohammad, Montasser, Mohab, Ibrahim, Mahmoud, and it so happens that I am a popular guy.
--Mohammad, 12
Yes I have this year, EVERY person looked at me weird.
--Charlie, 11
I haven't moved my whole life. You might miss your friends, but you'll find a way to keep in contact with them. I haven't met a new person who hasnt made a friend the first day at thier new school.
--Jake, 12

When I went to middle school last year, a lot of my friends split up going to different schools. I don't get in touch with them a lot. : ( I miss them. I did make new friends, but not a lot, and I still miss my old friends...

--Anonymous
Yea I've gone to anew school this year called Ridgecrest elementary, and it was really really scary was really nervous and couldn't find my way around the school! Making friends was really hard because I didn't want to mess with the mean girl. But, to my surprise...There was no mean girl! Now I have grown to like Ridgecrest and it's really fun!
--Magome, 9
We got uprooted to another school, next we will be going to go to 5th grade in the middle school. Plus, I met my favorite teacher there. Sadly she is going soon. : (*boohoo*.
--PopularGirl, 9
"6 years ago I moved to Georgia and had to go to a new school. I was in kindergarten. I made some new friends pretty quickly because we all know how carefree kindergarten is. It's been 6 years and I just got into middle school. I've been able to keep some old friends and made a few new. The only thing I wish I could change is some of my old friends from Virginia could be at my school with me. Changing schools can be a big change if youre not prepared for it.
--Mariah, 12
Im always going to be 'the new kid' because Im always switching from home school to public school to school to school!!!
--Madelyn, 13
I am going to the 6th grade and I do not want to go, because all of my friends go to my elementary school.
--Tabitha, 10
IML, Do you think that going from being home schooled to going to a private school is school change? p. S. I was Tabitha but I changed my name because they to Polarcat because polar bears are my favorite animals and because cats are too.
--Polarcat95, 11
Yes I have gone to a different school and miss all my old friends. In fact I have gone to 3 different schools and I am at my 4th. I miss all my friends from Scotland and other schools here in the US. I wish I could see them all again to say how much I miss them and to tell 2 boys that I thought they were really cute but I can't and I am sad.
--Shona Y, 10
"I started high school on August 2006 at high school. Well I wasn't really nervous but things changed. My two friends are separated now. We hang out at different groups ( not like the preps, rockers, or anything like that just our friends) but at least we're not enemies. I had a new crush this makes me giggle all the time whenever I think about him. My new friends are actually better than my old friends cause I can tell them which boy I like. It's kinda weird cause I never felt comfortable about telling my friends about that kind of stuff. It's actually my first time telling that to anyone that I like someone. Maybe that's why me and my old friends are separated now because we didn't trust each other about our secrets, which led us to feel like strangers whenever we meet. At least that's how I feel. Well the point is high school is very different there are good and bad just try to make the best out of it."
--Yori
"Yeah. My best friend is at another school. I moved to Virginia in 2003 from California. I spend all my summer there. I did make new friends. My best friends are Jacqueline, Shoshannah and Collette at my school. But Muffi and her friends are my best friends at the other school."
--Lily, 12

"Briana 12, what's with the accent? Talk in your own words, not what other kids want you to say. Oh snap, (See, like that. I always use that word) that's a good subject. I gotta put that in! See y'all later, I'm out."
--Kitten, 9
"Lucky you, Lori. I've moved many times to the same place! And then next year I'm going to middle school (No, I didn't skip any grades). It better be a good middle school, or I'm sewing! (He he, just kidding. )."

I've moved a lot and my most recent move was down south. I miss my old friends but I have made tons of new ones. I used to be weird but now a lot of kids think Im popular. But Im just being myself. I have a lot of friends who are boys and just as many girls. I used to be a big tomboy but now Im in the middle. I think boys like me because of my outgoing nature and because I sk8board. I still continue to keep in touch with one of my really good friends and I recommend that if you move you do the same.
--Natsk8rchic, 11
When I went to a new school last year I made a friend the first day of school. But what I didnt know was that she was a BULLY!! And so last year I made a new friend and this year she doesnt want to play with me. So now I dont have a friend and I don't know math because I used to go to a private school and I go to a public school now and I get made fun of because I am not good at math

I. S. J {American International School in Jeddeh}, or Continental School, and it happens to be a British school. Oh, and one more thing, ChimpGirl: Yes, Mohammad is my real name, and like JS said, I do practice Islam. Is it hard going to a new school? Will you make new friends or not?
--Erriel, 10
I went to three new schools. My second one was really bad, and my third one now is pretty good! I really missed my friends, but I quickly made new ones. If you just be nice you will be able to make nice friends.

I just started a new school this year. I am now in middle school. I miss some of my old friends but some of them are going here also. But there are lots of fights in the new school. In the first month I saw 3 catfights between girls already.
--Krista, 11
NEW SCHOOLS <*><*><*><*><*> Last year I had to move to a new state. Which also meant I had to go to a brand new school. My first day was scary, I thought a lot of people were going to be mean to me. I also thought there was a lot of other scary things like: *my classmates *getting lost *people picking on you *people judging on you *and other scary things... It all turned out that in first block I met this girl. We became friends at the end of that block! I also didn't get lost! I stayed with her all day and didn't get in trouble or anything. No one picked on me nor did they judge me! I had a great first day and if you were scared or are scared, don't be. Everything will be alright just try to make friends right off and they will help you through the day! Just trust people if you start to know them. Bye!
--Alicia, 12
I do not fit in with my class because none of my friends like me.
--Kaitlyn, 8
I hate D. A. V school.
--Dakshin
I hate my school bad luck just seems to happen more eg. I lost my lunch card, and yoghurt split down my skirt. Only think good is my mates.
--Jen, 11
Does any one think Im stuck up? Please tell me if you do (or if you don't) !
--JS, 13
Being at a new school is cool because you get to know more people. I know how it feels because when I was in a new school I didn't make friends until the next day.
--Melissa, 8
I hate Wilson. It stinks.
--Ben, 11
Paris (or now AlmostFamous) thnx for going for my advice! I like ur new name!
--Americangirl
I love changing schools.
--Danielle, 12
I love my new school! I didn't like the kids in my first school so this is great! One super cool thing is that I know how to talk in sign language and I taught some of my friends. Now we can talk during class but when we are taking tests all of us have to be in different corners. And now when we take tests with the whole 7th grade I have to go to the 4th grade room (the teacher is my coach). The only bad thing about that is that all of the little kids stare at me and even though one of my best friends is in there with me we can't talk (well with words at least, the sign language comes in handy in more then one way ( ;) But still it stinks because even after Im done Mr. K makes me sit still. : (.
--Chris, 12
My school got knocked down and I had to go to an another school for my final year in primary. I still dont see my friends so much but most of us moved there.
--LW, 11
About 2 years ago, I went to a school called Canyon Ridge. Right when my mom dropped me off, she just drove off with out saying goodbye or helping me to my classroom! And then I got lost and couldnt find my classroom. Luckily somebody that was there last year helped me get to my classroom.
--Madison, 9
I had to do that because my parents split up recently and so it was hard because I am used to living on a military base and everyone was nice and here everyone curses and calls people bad words and stuff and I kinda hate it.
--Tori, 11
I have moved schools about 11 times its not that hard once you get used to it.
--A, 13
Last year I lived in the city but then we had to move and now I go to a TINY school in a small town. In my old school we had about 30 kids in the 7th grade but this year we have 9. Only 5 boys and 4 girls! We only have 4 teachers. Last year there were 100 kids in the middle school. In my new school there are 52 ( with 5th grade) !13 in 5th, 12 in 6th, 9 in 7th, and 18 in 8th! It is so different but still cool because I am friends with all of the 7th graders.
--C. J., 12
I like my new school. We all have nicknames for each other. One of my teachers is Coach K. Because he coaches the baseball team, the hockey team, and the track team I am called Twitch because I can't sit still (Coach K. Gave me that name). One of my friends is called Tin, an other is called Wo-Jack, then we have Bubs, Ford, Sa, Clem (because his favorite baseball player is Roger Clements) , and Lightning (because of the lightning fast way he can cross a football field) so my new school is pretty cool.
--Chris, 12
Americangirl dont feel bad Id never heard of them either but after the commercial I love them oh and I took your idea for an alias.
--Almostfamous, 9
I wanna meet you but I can't.
--Khaula, 10
"1st day of new school is the horrible day!
--Injila, 12
I've been to seven school's and leaving your friends and making new friends is hard. You have to be patient and be your self. You can't just pretend to be someone youre not and then end up being the opposite. The kids need to get to know if youre the right friend for them.
--Jevera, 9
Alex: Um, okay, I respect your opinion, but I STRONGLY disagree with it. It's never nice to belittle people just because they're younger. And Im not stuck up!!!
--JS, 13
No I don't miss my friends except Joshua and Chasity, Angeline and Bryant. And yes I've made new ones they are the best buds and their names are Miranda, Wayla, Janelle, Roslynn, and Whiteny. I've seen my old friends a lot and you know what I have to walk to the bus stop its like a meter long?!!! And I can't wait after 6Th grade (did you know I was supposed to be 7th later!!!
--Native2023, 11
I've done it a few times, and it really isn't so bad. Everyone wants to be friends with you, (I promise!) , and the teachers are easy on you at first. It isn't as bad as it sounds and you are so busy that you don't worry about your other friends. When I started a new school I was so popular at first and now I am not.
--Sallie
Paris 9 I never heard of Stevens jeans! What r they?
--Americangirl
Going to a new school can be really hard. You have to leave all your friends behind and never see them again because they made new friends and you have to make all new friends again. And you could get lost because its a new school and you dont know where anything is. There are also bullies that you have to deal with and that is not fun because they call you the new kid because they dont know your name. Its really hard but you will make friends and youll get used to it and every thing will be like it should!
--Sam C, 13
I moved 2 states away from my old school and I'll always miss my friends, but sometimes Im glad I moved and made new friends.
--Fuzzy, 12
Yes and no I havent made new friends because my friends are in the same school.

If your having trouble at a new school tell someone like your teacher or another classmate or even your parent/guardian Im certain and 100% positive you'll find help from there.
--Cassie, 11
My first day of middle school was weird because I didn't know where to go.
--Steve, 12
Is there a better way to remember how to open your locker?
--Diamonique, 10
Going to a new school can be very upsetting & stressful. Not only will you start as a stranger but also because you will have to leave your friends, who you've been close to ever since you were little. I definitely missed all my friends back at my old school. Starting school not knowing anyone can be very depressing. Fortunately, as time progresses, I was able to make new ones. I was very happy that I finally met a few people that I can relate to & spend time with. It is really easy to make friends as long as you're easy to get along with & friendly. Just try & think positive as much as you can, & in the long run you will eventually meet people & get use to your new school...
--Samantha, 9
When moving 2 a new school, I really don't like it cause I have really close friends at my old school and I don't want 2 lose them.
--Ruth, 12
Hi have you ever combined with another school, I have and I was the only one in my class from my old school but I still get to see my old friends at lunch and recess. But one of the other girls was new and told me about her self but the good part was I met the other kids in my class and made new friends.
--Olivia, 10
If you ask me about that id just feel like crying. The only thing I like of my new school is their lunch. So many memories. At my new school they are very nosy. I had been at that school with some of my friends ever since preschool.
--Emily, 9
Going to a new school is hard because you don't know anyone. I wanna go back.
--Anonymous
Moving to a new school is hard because u r sooo used 2 your old school that u cannot change 2 your new school. It is hard but u will get used 2 it. I just went in 2 another school 2 and a first it is hard but I a week or 2 u will get used 2 it. The lockers r easy ask someone if u do not get it. U will be like that was easy!! The teachers r really nice the first week!! Then when u get home u will be like that was not hard at all!! So then u will go on 2 6th, 7th and 8th and high school will be awesome 2 I think not sure lol. But the best of all is the boys!! And friends u meet new boys and new friends also, it is awesome. So then u will end up really cool. The classes r sooo easy in 6th u will get an A" in every single class!!! So easy but when u get into 7th it gets a lot harder and harder in high school and if u go 2 college. So good luck.
--Anonymous
I was so nervous meeting new people. I eventually forgot all my old friends and I made new ones.

Hi, I haven't posted on this topic for awhile, so here I am, with a new story. I am now in 5th grade! I have changed. Instead of liking hip hop and rap a lot, now I LOVE rock/punk music. I DO NOT like Corey anymore, and broke up with him in February 3, 2006. I hooked up with is now ex-best friend, Atom. I loved him. We were together for 6 months. Then, after the WHOLE summer of 2006, we went back to school. Both in 5th grade. Both in different classes. = ( So, we decided to break up...I still like him. I still love him...But, now, we are broken up. Now, I am really mad at girls in his class that flirt with him. I didn't like him because of his good looks, I liked him because of his personality. Well, whatever, it's over now. = ( I still love you Atom, and I will never forget you!!!! Ok, enough with the boyz. Shital, by greatest best friends ever, is in Atom's class too. She is very very lucky! Hahaha. I am with 6 other friends I had that were in my class from last year in 4th grade. I still like them all. So far, I THINK I dislike 1 person. It is that new girl in Shital and Atom's class. ERRRGG! She flirts with Atom! WHATEVER...Have fun with him. I am supposed to be only his best friend. = ( that's ok. Well, that's what is going on in my school! Inform you about other things next week!
--Judy, 10
I feel so different in a new school cuz they talk about different things than I did at my other school but they are great friends.
--Desiree, 11
I have not gone to a different school yet, but my friend has. She emails me every day to tell me what happened at school. She misses me a lot. P. S she says she met a girl named Joy and that I have to meet her. Im seeing her over the weekend.
--Allie
Jacqueline, (I think your JS now): I disagree with you about hazing. Its not a big deal, and it's supposed to be fun. People should be able to laugh at themselves otherwise they will grow up to not be any fun, and they might be stuck up. I don't want to offend you, though, so please don't get mad.
--Alex
I went to a new school this year, I hate it, a lot of people think I talk to much. So, I run to the bathroom and cry. And worst of all, my school counselor thinks I am depressed!
--Madison, 9
Evan is there any chance of a scholarship also how far away is were u live now compared to your old school?
--Paris, 9
I have moved to a lot of schools in the past. In fact, I havent stayed in one school for more than 2 years. But when I moved from Toronto to London On when I was going to eighth grade was by far my hardest. I feel very lonely lot of times and miss my friends...
--Sansan, 13

--Joe, 11
Ya. Im going to a new school in 2 days. My experienced wasn't pleasant I got picked on and bullied by this one girl after I was swarmed with kids my age. And yes I did make a friend. She was the best friend I ever had.
--Serah, 11
I changed school. The first 2 months I hardly talk to anyone and my best friend that changed school with me grew apart from me. But now I have plenty of great friends and me and my best friend are back together. I really AND TRULY MISS MY OLD FRIENDS.
--IMAN, 11
Yeah, I had to move twice. I missed my friends, but I made new ones.
--Alyssa, 9
I went to a new school for 4th grade and it was way better than my old one. I visit my friends from the old school sometimes so were still friends. Im going to middle school next week and I can't wait!
--Jonathan, 11
Im Evan Im 14 and I moved away from my home town in Enfield CT I miss all my friends dearly and its been hard for me to live without them. In the new town Im in now the school is bad and most of the kids are very mean. Some of them are cool. Anyway my real question is I dont know how Im gonna tell my mom I want to go back I tried 1once bit she did not realize how I feel about this I know it cost money to go to a school thats not in your town but I dont know how much it would mean the world to me if I can go back thats all I really want right now.
--Evan
I have gone to a private school my whole life, and now I have to go to a public school. I have great friends now. I don't want to lose them. I am afraid that since we won't see each other so often, we will not be as close. How can I prevent that from happening?
--Ariana, 12
Like Im going to 5th grade at anew school. All my friends are going and are sorta in the same classes. I know this new school Ive done music classes there but my friends will always be late for class.

--Jamie, 8
DO you like going to school ? How's it like in your school? Do you have a lot of friends?
--Melissa
This year, Im starting at a new school. See, I was chosen for the Foreign Exchange program, and I had to come here to Michigan from my home in Brazil. I've already been in school for a month and it is so hard because everybody is speaking in a language that is harder for me to understand. And I don't know people here. All my family lives back in Brazil, and I have to stay with a whole new family that I don't know. The weather is so much cooler here. I heard that it snows here. I never have seen snow. What does it look like? But Im very thankful to be here because it is a good experience to have that is not available to most students...

Last year my mom got picked to do a teacher exchange in England. That meant I had to go to a new country, meet new friends, and go to a new school. I was really nervous! But by the third week of school I had made tons of friends and got really used to England. I also learned a whole new culture plus it was so much fun, don't be afraid to have change!
--Johannah, 10
Im gonna have a new teacher and Im scared that she's really mean...
--Princess, 11
I know a kid that got high off of a toxic marker, he sniffed it for an hour. He fell down the stairs on the bus (went to Juvy 5 times)!
--Devin, 11
Well I went to a new school and it wasnt all that bad I met a lot of new friends but I went to an all girl school.
--Tiffany, 11
Yes I have. I DON'T miss my old friends. They were major jerks, they talk about me behind my back and ditch me all the time. When they give each other things they leave me out. They even leave me out of their parties and talk about it in front of my face. I love my new friends. They are so nice and always wait for me or include me. I can never imagine them being rude, they are the nicest! I guess I appreciate it more because I have been through the worst!
--Sarah, 13
Yes and yes. I've bean moving back and forth between the USA and Israel my whole life. I miss my friends a lot, but every time I move I can fix my ways and make new friend and forget about the mess I made with the kids in my old school...
--Gittit, 11
No.
--No, no
Have you ever felt like you've planned to do something but you never do it?
--Megan, 8
No, I have never been to a new school and I probably never will except for college and high school. I would miss my friends...
--Lori, 11
About PBS it's cool kinda I don't know maybe it's just how I feel about kids going to school 'cause Im going to be homeschooled. It's probably going to be cool I don't know what... But next week Im going to start to homeschool I'll tell you all all about it bye!
--Allysa
I did go to a School Called St. Josephs School. That was a Catholic school but it wasn't good! I didn't really have a friend! And it was Okay! Because there were only 8 girls, plus me is 9. I am in another school called St. Josephs. It's Catholic. And I have many friends! And I am glad! Because Know I have more fun!
--Kristina, 11
"I never been In High School But I am getting there!
--Kristina, 11
I have changed school 12 times I hate IT! It is just stupid!
--Kristina, 11
Don't worry people I too have been to a new school. It was just built. I mean the teachers keep saying that we should all be lucky that we get to start this school off, but to me I could care less. And yes I miss my friends they went to the different school, Im in the process of making new ones...
--Desiree
I have never changed schools before but it must be hard. I have a friend who moved from 6 years in A. Z. 1 in M. A. And the rest of her life in W. I...So don't be sad my friend made a lot of new friends really quickly. You can send a letter, e-mail and call your friends on the phone...
--Te'a
Of course I missed my friends, but I made even more new ones. So I guess it worked out.
--Kiara, 13
Yes I have experienced going to a new school. I missed my old friends a lot but I still keep in touch w/ them. I write to all of them (well I try to) every day! I did make new ones! They are really great! I thank them soo much!
--Tia, 12
I have experienced going to a new school, just last year for 6th grade. I was really nervous, and I missed my friends from time to time. However, if you act friendly towards everyone, it's not too hard to make some new friends, and I can still talk to my old friends online or on the phone!
--Vanessa, 12
I fit a whole day and do not get in trouble.
--Tyra, 8
Yea. I did miss my friends the whole year. I had problems. I wanted to go back to my old school. But soon I got back in middle school and got rejoined with everybody including new friends.
--Anonymous, 12
School starts in 2 weeks and I'll be starting middle school which is grade 7 to grade 8 here. But next summer I'll be moving to a whole new city and going to a new school. Im kinda nervous about it. I'll miss all my friends that I've made for the past years. They're really great and it's hard to let them go!
--Shafika, 12
Well going to a new school is hard. But you can still stay in contact with your old friends by being pin pals or even calling them if they arent to far away. And when you do go to a new school you can make new friends 2 that's what I had to do and it turn out to be fun!
--Desiree, 13
I sure have. I am going to a new school for fifth grade. I only miss one friend. Her name is Ashton who now lives very far from me. She is the only person who answered my e-mails and calls me. I met a new friend the first day. My other friends aren't my friends anymore.
--Erica, 10
Hi, Im Chantal and I just moved from New Jersey to Las Vegas. And school is going to begin August29. And it's August 23. I reeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaallllyyyy miss them.
--Chantal, 9
I dont need to worry about making new friends cuz Im SOOOO COOL!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
--Anonymous
I have changed school 13 times. I hate it. I was so settled at my old school. Me and my boyfriend were going steady, I was captain of the volleyball team and got the lead in the school musical. I miss my friends. I had finally found my place and then my dad got transferred to Chicago. I start at my new school in 2 weeks and I am really nervous. HELP!!!
--Anonymous
I have to go to a new school because Im moving. It is hard to leave my friends. But my parents say I'll make better friends because I call and E-mail my friends but they never reply except for my best friend in a different state...
--Erica, 10
Well, School is starting soon and I am going to a new school, I have old friends there, but I hope I make new ones! And I hope I can find my way around!
--Ashley, 13
You know, my best friend's sister Carla and I met together since kindergarten. Now it's sad that I have to move to a different city and go to a school in New York. But I made friends with a girl with blond hair and a boy with short black hair with green streaks.
--Yvonne, 11
Im going to a new school my old school is so close to me but I don't wanna go to that school because its a races school so it's my choice to go to a school thats six miles away from me. Im scared to go to a new school and start my eighth grade there. But if you wanna have new friends just be yourself don't act stupid, the first day you go to a new school just be yourself don't be shy just relax everything will be fine.
--Natasha
Hello. My name is Erica. I must move away from my hometown. I don't know anybody (nervous) . I am going to a school that people say is really good (I think that that is true) . I like my school. I hope I do make friends and can have sleepovers with them. I really get lonely when everybody doesn't want me to play with me and stuff. I don't want to have to sit in the sand and dig for rocks and stuff. But my parents said that the newer kid gets more attention and that she will get friends. My parents are positive I will get new friends. The first day I will be sad and will probably not talk, but I guess it could change. I just want to tell everyone that you really don't have to be afraid because youre not going to get in trouble or anything. So if you want to sit alone the first few days, I think that is good.
--Erica, 10
Yes. I missed my old friends and made new ones. It can be scary or you might be nervous.
--Arliss, 12
I have been to 3 schools so far (we were finding the perfect home) but there is still middle and high school. In every school I had no friends, and it's still like that. I hate it when people mention getting together with friends, or they talk about how great their BF's are because I cant do any of those things.
--Dana, 10
I was at my old school until grade 3 and I suddenly moved very far away. I begged my parents if I could still go to the same school, because it was a 20 minute drive, but my new school was 2 minutes away walking. I was so sad, and I missed my friends terribly, but then, one day when I got home, all my friends from my old school yelled, Surprise!". My parents planned it for me, because they said they could see my sadness and how much I missed my friends. And the best thing happened for me! My best friend, (which used to go to my old school) moved across the street! That was the happiest day ever!
--Emma, 12
Just be yourself. Eventually, good people will come to be your friends. Don't be in a rush to make friends, and don't make friends with the first people that look your way, they will probably talk about you. I know, I had to move from Oregon to Alaska, a major change in people and personalities!
--Sam, 13
I missed my friends a lot, but I still have the friends I moved away from!! Friends are like a circle- a circle is round it has no end, and that is how long I want to be your friend, one is silver and the other is gold!! The good part is you eventually make a lot of new friends!!
--Lori-Anne, 12
My friend is Gustina and she is nice to me and all my other friends pick on me at school.
--Heather, 11
Finally I am going to switch schools cause for 6 long years (counting kindergarten) I have stayed at one school and now Im heading off to middle school so now my answer to this question is finally yes!!!!! (thank god!!!) lol.
--DeAnna, 1
Definitely. This year Im going to a new school again (this is my second time) and I hope I'll make friends like I did at my last school...
--Karen, 11
I moved to Australia from England and I still miss my friends but I soon made friends!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are really nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
--Jasmine, 10
No. But I will!
--Michael, 13
I have always been homeschooled my whole life so no.
--Rosanna, 99
Mohammad I go to boarding school in Mass. Its great. Its not a religious school. Sorry if I offended anyone. Paris, 9 You go to boarding school! I feel sorry 4u-no parents! R u the same Paris that posted in 'coolest thing my dad did'? HaryyPotter, you seem to be on IML a lot.
--Dana, 10
Well I've moved many times! All of the time I've made new friends and kept some old ones. In fact I just moved!
--Bethaney, 11
I switched schools when I was about 10 It was kinda scary I admit it, but I got used to it I can still talk to my old friends just not as often.
--Emma, 13
I love my friends they nice to me did you see a friends in school in the day and say hi to your friends on the bus.
--Katharine
Here is a brain stumper (not on subject but)
the statement below is true
the statement above is false
I have gone to three elementary schools.
--Chocoholic, 10
My name is Monica and I just wanted to say that if you go to a different school you should just try to be yourself and not try to fit in a click or something like that.
--Monica, 11
Hey Katie! Yeah, I've moved a few times, and I've been to so many schools. I always miss my old friends a lot at first, and it makes me sad when they don't try to keep contact with me. But I try to stay positive, and just by being my usual bouncy self, I make a whole bunch of new friends
--Carly, 13
I am going to a new school this year. Man I hope I find a lot of new friends.
--Cassy, 9
Yes. I have gone to a new school before. I moved on the summer vacation of 2nd grade. I started out at a new school in 3rd grade and the second I walked in the door I felt like an outsider. Everyone knew each other and I felt so horrible because I felt like I was on the outside looking in. I missed all of my old friends and school was pretty rough for the first few weeks. Then I made tons of new friends and now I am doing it all again because I am going on to middle school!
--Lauren, 11
I miss my friends but I am still okay. Maybe it was meant to be. Still no matter what I won't forget my old friends.
--Survivor, 10
The only time I've really went to a new school was when I was going to middle school (and that's now). Most of my friends are coming to the same school as me so I don't have to worry much. We had a sixth grade orientation just the beginning of this week (August 7th)and I saw a lot of people that had left the school I went to in Elementary school that were coming to the Middle school I was going to. But hardly any of my closest friends were there, only about 2 of them really. But one of my other friends said she was coming but she never showed up. :( School is starting for me August 21. I really can't wait but Im kinda scared cause I might have to get in my locker and not be able to because they gave me the wrong combination at the orientation. Oh well. Another one of my friend isn't coming to the same school so I think I might miss her but I already made some new friends at the orientation...And school hasn't started yet!!!:) LUCKY ME!
--LadyGurl
Im going to a new school this year the middle school. we all ready went to orientation I can't open my locker but new sports to join like the drama club, Track, and more!!!! I want to go but I don't soooooo I need help any advice?? ?? ?? ??
--Alexandra, 11
Last year I transferred schools, it was hard and if your asking how, well it's hard to make new friends and worst of all, the bullies if you know what I mean! first of all when you move you do get a couple days of school off but it's still hard after a year passed by, help!
--Ng, 8
In 2 weeks I will be going to a new school. I am so scared though. I don't know what to do. It's just so hard going to another school...
--Jasmine, 11
"A lot of you guys really understand me like Elizabeth who is 11 years old like me. I graduated elementary school in Glassboro and now Im going to Clayton high school while everyone in my old school are staying there. One of my best friends Kayla died last year so she didn't get to graduate. I will never forget her. She really was a true friend. I just miss her so much.
--Shana
When I started middle school, I was going to a different school than all of my friends from elementary school. It was kind of hard to fit in, but I made a few friends. Oh and Bani (10), wow! Have you really skipped 3 or 4 grades? Do you actually go to a high school or are you homeschooled?
--Ella, 12
I jumped from homeschooling to jr. High. I still saw my friends from homeschooling at karate and I did make new friends.
--Anonymous
I have been in private school all my life. Im never going to a new school!
--Americangirl, 12

Hi! I am Sofia. I am not moving until the Last day of the 8th grade. When I move I am going to miss my friends because I had met kids like myself and it will be so different and I will miss all of them. Well you see, all my friends are almost everyone in the whole school and I will hate to say good-bye to them all. One of the best friends I have had already move and we both were very similar and can relate to one another and she moved to San Francisco and went to another school on the other side of the world. And soon it will be my turn to move very soon and I will miss everyone I know and ever met. But the small upside is I will might go to the same school as my friends from my Sunday school(or church)which would be ok I guess...
--Sofia, 12
If you move to a new school, be nice to the teachers and other students. If they are mean to you (they probably will be nice though) ask the school counselor for help. Well, good luck!!
--Kay, 12
I like it her. Do you like it there?
--Ariana
This year I have to go to a new school. Im really hurting inside 'cause Im gonna miss my friends. I know some people at this school but it is a much bigger school than my previous one. In my previous school there was less than 200 kids. In this school there are many more!
--Brittney, 12
I have gone to a school since I was in kindergarten. I am now going into 6th grade. My school goes up to 8th grade so I wanted to stay there and finish elementary and middle school in one place. Recently my family has been spinning out of control and my mom moved out. She is gonna put me in a school that is a step ahead of most other schools in my area. I know a few ppl there but most of them are my enemies. This school is 3 times bigger than my old school. Right now I am so freaked out! That is the only topic on my mind and it has been the last month. Someone help me!!
--Brittney, 12
Im probably moving and I hope I go to I new school.
--AuthorGirl, 8
Well almost every year I have to move! So I just get used to moving all these places. And I never get to see my friends but I always make friends so no big deal.

--Rachel, 10
Well yeah I miss my friends like you have a best friend and you leave because your moving when you go to school wherever you are you make a new best friend and you have a lot of fun with her. And when I make a new friend I forgot my old one because you will always have a friend.
--Bianca, 9
I had to start a new school, because I had moved. And I was really really scared and hated that I had to start a new school. I missed my friends and although I had moved, I made new friends, and everything turned out to be ok.
--Rachel, 13
First I went to a B. I. A School(Bureau of Indian Affairs), I had of lot friends and I knew all the teachers. But now I go to a Public School And the Name is Cubreo Elem., We had to go thru a lot of paper work , now I have a new BFF and her name is Wayla. LATER PEEPS.
--Native2023, 11
I am shy around cute boys in my new school and I sometimes loosen up, but other times...How I just act natural?
--Princess, 10
I did experience going to a new school I really did miss my friends but I still keep in touch with the but I made fried s as soon as I got in the school.
--Judy, 11
Likeiwouldtellyou: Good luck. I've just finished freshman year. I went into the wrong classroom twice, but I survived. Nobody teased me or, anything, and one time I was sick when I went in, so I wasn't thinking clearly. I survived the year, and if you need any tips, just write in here!
--JS
Im going to middle school but I dont aunt to I wished summer could last forever and Megan 11 what is an intermediate school.
--Danielle, 12
Dear Ashly 11: I know going to a new school is tough but u cant tell ur self that u want make any new friends because if u tell your self that odds are u want try to make new friends so get back in the game and remember not everybody is going to want to be ur friend but there probably just jealous you'll make tons of new friends trust me.
--Danielle, 12
I've been through soooooo many schools. I moved around 5 states and 3782478947938 cities when I was little, so I went to like 20 elementary schools before I settled in 3rd grade. And then, I failed out of my magnet school and had to be sent to a new school, where they treated me like an alienated freak that wasn't even a person. I hated going to my new middle school. 8th grade was okay, but 7th was absolutely horrible. My friend moved away, and then I got kicked out, and nobody did anything but stare at me the first months. It made me feel like crap : ( but I've got high school to worry about! : ) .
--Sarah
My dad is in the army so I always have to start new schools and it is hard. In 17 days I will be a freshman in high school. I am so scared. I don't have any friends because I just moved here. I always know that I have my old friends and my parents to talk to.
--Taylor, 13
I am 12 and I have changed about 10 schools in 10 years. I don't like having to change schools so often, but it can be a lot of fun, too. Im about to start in a new school this school year.
--Ash, 12
When I first went to my school everyone was starring at because I was new and I was Asian and they never seen an Asian kid at their school. I get called Chinese when Im not but its okay. After I saw the people in my new school I wanted a friend and about a week later I met new friends so its not bad being new.
--Hyunjin, 9
It was a difficult thing to do I have met new friends but I had more at my old school.
--Shawna, 13
Nope, I haven't--unless moving from junior high to high school counts.
--O_o
Hi people! Im going to a new school next year, and I am excited to start again. At first I was really nervous, but then I got to know some of the people there and now Im cool with it. I think I'll keep my old nickname though. I don't really mind when people call me Sassifras. I've gotten used to it.
--Safiya, 11
Well I have gone to 4 different schools and yes I do miss my friends a lot I make a lot of friends but they are not like my other friends I am just really nervous about going to another school.
--Elizabeth, 11
Ill say yes. I miss my friends.
--Julaisa
I've gone to the same elementary school for 6 years and this coming year Im going to middle school. Im excited and ready for this new chapter in my life. I can't wait for school to start!
--Kaleigh, 11
Hola PBS! I used to go to a Spanish school in Spain but Mama and Papi made me move to Georgia and go to a new school. I missed my friends a little bit...
--Jos, 10
Good things about starting secondary school:
1. I get a locker!!!
2. Basketball. If you're tall, you might as well make the most of it...
3. If I don't like a teacher (or the teacher doesn't like me) (all too common), Im only with them for 50 mins!!!
4. DRAMA CLUB!!!
5. SINGING CLUB!!!
Bad things about starting secondary school:
None.
I know a lot of ppl would be worried about going to a school where they know nobody. But Im very confident, talkative and friendly. So Im sure I'll make a ton of friends. Being the runt of the school? Well, Im tall...as tall as the oldest students in fact. No problem there, then.
--ComicGirl, 12
Im not moving or anything Im going to the 8th grade with all my same friends it's just that our 8th grade is separated from all the other schools. (yeah real dumb) I just left middle school which is 6and 7 graders.
--Ariole, 13
Hey everybody! I haven't ever been to another school, at all, and Im really worried about it! I'll miss my friends, and Im sure I won't make another! HELP ME!!!!!!!!
--Ashley, 11
In the fall, Im going to start high school, which scares me a little, but almost all my friends are going to the same school with me. Not to mention, I know some upperclassmen. But it's still going to be scary on the first day. My new school is HUGE!! Im just afraid I'll get lost like I did on the first day of middle school. That was TERRIBLE!
--Likeiwouldtellyou, 13
Im going into 8th grade so I'll be at the top of the school but 2 years ago I was sooo scared going into middle school, I felt like I was going to throw up. But I was a cheerleader so I didn't get beat up or made fun of!! But Im kinda scared bout next year: high school!!
--Taylor, 13
Im going to a new school because Im going to junior high (middle school) this September. Most exciting part: Im in French Immersion (French programming)! I learn all my cores in French. But Im scared, because Im the only person from my school going to the junior high Im going to. Oh well. That's the way the cookie crumbles!
--Danielle, 11
Bani (10) Oh, my gosh, you've skipped more grades than I have! We're going into the same grade, but Im 3 years older than you...
--JS
I have to go to a new school because my school closed down. I have a friend there but all of my best friends are going to a different school. I am just scared that nobody will like me like the way my other friends did. :(.
--Nicole, 12
Mohammad I go to boarding school in Mass. Its great. Its not a religious school. Sorry if I offended anyone.
--Paris, 9
My new school is Biar intermediate.
--Alma, 9
I have moved from Georgia to Florida to Aurora, Illinois to Batavia, Illinois and now I am going to Tennessee. Plus I have moved to different schools in those locations. I have been in 6 different schools in total. I do miss friends, but all you have to do to make new ones is be yourself!
--DramaQueen, 10
I am going to a new school this upcoming school year and I am scared to go to my new school. I am not sure why I am so scared because I make friends easily. But just the first day or 2 will be nervewracking because I won't know where to go or where to sit at lunch or even who to talk to.
--Imani, 13
When I had to move to Intermediate school (4-5 grade) I was going there with kids from the same district but a different elementary school, so that meant new faces were going to be seen. In the future a lot of my friends from elementary school have changed and they have faded away out of my mind but I made a ton of other friends, and that's how I learned that friends come and go.
--Megan, 11
When I went 2 my new school I was REALLY sad cause my BFF was my neighbor and I would go over his house every day. And when I moved it was hard cause he would do my homework 4 me (he was in 7th & I was in 6th) and also the new street I moved on is REALLY boring, and I used to go outside all the time and play manhunt but now I just sit in my room really lonely. MOVING STINKS. But I did make new friends and I love them just as much as the old ones... Life goes on. But I still wish there was more 2 do here. Also I went from a city to a town and they didnt even have a mayor, which surprised me. Also now we have well water, which tastes like crap, so I have to drink bottled water. It STINKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :( *remember make new friends u NEED 2!!!*.
--Stephanie, 12
Hey, I ask the same question. Next year Im going into 6th and going to a new school. But, almost all my friends are going. My friend is moving to California this year so shes not going. You probably will make new friends. Just be nice to people and don't judge them by the way they look.
--Natalie, 11
I missed my friends and Im blind so I cant fit in.
--Claire
I skipped 3 grades in elementary school (3, 4, 5,), so on the first day of middle school, I was 9 (did I mention we just moved from Maine to Detroit?). I didnt have any friends in elementary school (I was always hunching over and I didnt talk a lot) so, my parents told me to stand up straight and all (and TALK). I did on the first day but a bunch of kids where really mean!!!!!!!! I am in 8th grade now, but I still dont have any friends here. Do teachers count????
--Eddie, 11
Bani(10) r u really in ur sophomore year of high school?
--Ivy, 10
I live in IL but I am moving to Texas where I haven't been told yet. But I am leaving my friends behind. That made me sad, but I am hoping to make new friends. Not that I can ever replace the amazing ones I left in IL.
--Katelyn, 8

--Jaimaine, 11

--ComicGirl, 12
I have been to a new school, but Im going to another new school, but Im going to a new school for only one year. What should I do?
--Alex, 10
Well, Im going to a new school and I have no new friends. I am going to the 5th grade and I know one little kid who goes there. Well, hes in 1st grade, so it wont be really fun without my BF Sheynne.
--Natasha, 10
I miss my friends.
--Andrea, 11
It is always scary going into a new school. I dont like the fact that everyone knows each other and I feel like such an oddball. Fortunately I made new friends.
--Lily, 13
Hi, Im Ladosha and Im going to 6th grade. Im afraid that I might go to a different classroom, so Im gonna ask my sister where my classrooms are if see her around...I live in Kentucky.
--Ladosha, 11
I am only 10 years old and I am in my sophomore year in high school. It was hard leaving my friends for a new school.
--Bani, 10
Whenever I go to a new school I think that I won't have any friends, because right now I have only one friend.
--Hannah, 8
I am totally the master at going to new schools. My dad is a professor and he always has all of these job offers at places like Hawaii and Sweden and Hong Kong, and right now we are waiting to find out if we are going to move to Paris, France, or Hawaii. It's no biggie though-- I've moved so much it barely even passes through my mind as scary anymore.

Man, da first time I transferred 2 homeskool man, I hated it cuz da skool I went 2 wus ril good and had just about everything. But I started being happy wen I notice God put me N homeskool fa a reason.

I've been to 3 different elementary schools. My first one, I stayed for kindergarten and I had a couple of friends. My 2nd one, I stayed for 1st and 2nd. I only had 2 best friends. Then my 3rd one, I stayed for 3rdth and 5th. I had 3 best friends in 3rd, in 4th I had 4, and then in 5th I had 8. Now in middle school, I think I have 14-16. I didn't really miss my friends from my 1st 2 schools. I cant remember them.
--Izzy, 12
I am going 2 a new school but all my friends are going. But we are scared that we might get different classes.
--Danyelle, 11
Well, I am going to a new school, and I really do miss my friends, actually. I made a lot of new friends, like 300. I have definitely experienced going to a new school. Since Im going to middle school now, it's easier to find classes.
--Alex, 11
My parents say they might put me into a private school when I graduate from elementary, but I don't wanna cause ALL my friends are going to public.
--DevilgirlMwaHaHa, 10
Yes, cause I just moved to a new town about a few days ago and, no, I didn't know anyone.
--Keegan, 12
I am going to an intermediate school. Im new there. It's called Budewig. I am nervous about people calling me names or hitting me, in other words BULLYING! What do I do????
--Jiselle, 10
I went 2 a new school in middle school, and believe it or not I survived. U can 2!
--Esther, 12
Yes, twice. Two years ago, I moved here, to Tennessee, where I went to middle school. I went for two months without friends, but then I made two. Now that I think about it, they weren't very good friends. My parents decided I should go to a private school, since I was smart enough. I protested all summer, but when I spent a few weeks at my new school, I liked it. I made friends more quickly, too. Im glad my parents made me go. ;).
--Laura, 12
When I came to my new school it was easy. I knew a lot of people and I had a best friend right when I came here. I really liked my teacher. She was nice. At first I saw these girls and I thought they would not like me because they were popular, and it turns out that me and that girl were best friends for 3 years. :) :D.

I've been changing from school every year because my mom works in the army.

--Madeleine, 10
I have 2 go 2 a new school for 6th grade and I will be shy on my 1st day of school because I won't know anyone in my new school. And I will be alone with no friends. I had experienced going to a new school. I will miss my friends. I don't know if I will make new friends, maybe not. Please help me, Katie.
--Nicole, 12
I had to go to a new school because my little brother had to go to a new school. I was so mad but I made friends. And I like the school now.
--Kristin, 12
I moved to a new school twice. In Kindergarten I didn't feel so sad cause I didn't really know what sad felt like. Then in gr. 1 I moved again. I missed my friends. But now in gr. 6 I've made the best of friends. So dont be worried. It will work out. Just keep in touch with your old friends also. They'll help you when you feel down
--Dali, 12
I like change and that is why Im changing schools of my own accord next year. Im escaping from all the snobs.

I had 2 go 2 a new school for 6th grade. I didn't know anyone, and believe me it was freaky. So anyway in math this really cute boy offered 2 carry my bookbag. We r best buds know.

I am going to middle school this year.
--Taylor, 11
I have not gone to a new school, but I don't think it should be all that bad. First of all, most people are really nice to the new student, and go out of their way to be their friend. Secondly, if you come from a different state or country, people are likely to be interested in everything from that place. They will ask you questions about it, and they will listen to your every word. But, it can get annoying! The flip side is that if you are from a different country, people may make fun of you (the way you look, dress, talk etc). So my final point? Being the new kid in town can be OK, but you should be careful.
--Kerosene, 11
"During my whole entire life, I have never moved. This summer, my family and I might be moving to North Carolina. I'm not sure if I'm exited, nervous, angry, or all of the above. But its not like I'm going to lose many friends. I'm homeschooled, so I don't really have any friends except for a couple who I only get to see at church and youth group. So instead of moving just like any other regular kid, I'm also going to public school for the first time. Please, if you have any advice on what middle school is like, I would really appreciate it. And could you keep me in your prayers? Thanks."
--Meghan, 13
"Ive been changing from school every time. I hate that. But now middle school worried me. I don't know why."

"I am going to Saudi Arabia (boohoo!!), so I am going to a new school. But, I wanna ask my 'rents if I can come back to America (A.K.A: heaven) to go to boarding school, just to experience it. Everyone cross your fingers for me plox! P. S: If my parents accept, I hope to keep my nickname, Full Force!"
--Mohammad, 11
"I've switched schools 4 times. It's hard to fit in. One school I went to, the teacher asked if anyone in the class wanted to show me around. No one raised their hand. So I felt different (in a bad way) and unwanted. I eventually made friends (and they still are today), but if there is a new kid, volunteer to be their friend. Trust me, it's worth it!"
--Darenne, 13
"I am at a new school. I am having trouble finding friends. They just tease me 'cause I am Maltese. I told the teacher, but things kept on happening. How do I make friends? I want to be in the popular group. Please help me."
--Louise, 10
"I've been to many new schools. I don't know why, but I miss my old friends I left behind. And all of the teachers got used to me but my art teacher. She gets mad at me for no reason."

"Ok, I'm going to a new school. I'm moving and I'm going to a new school. The other kids would've been there for years, but it is going to be my first time. And let's say I make a mistake in class.. they are gonna say I don't know anything...help!!!!!!!!!"

"When my school was over, (I was entering 2nd grade) my mom met my step-dad, and he was in the army. When they were married, we had to move to Georgia. I moved in Aug. 2004. I missed my friends and my old crush. I made new ones, yes, but these guys were meaner. So now I have no friends at home."
--Dyani, 8
"Last year I went to a private school, now I am homeschooling again this year (boring). I was so scared the first day I almost threw up and I was shaking all over, I must have begged my mom half the ride there to turn around. We got there I was holding all my new stuff for school. The teacher at the door showed me my locker and it took a while to figure how to open my locker. I walked through the door sucking in my breath, mom behind me. The whole school was there doing opening exercises and I walked in joining a group of students who I thought I knew the best. The rest of the day went okay except for when the very scary principal made the entire school welcome us. It was a very scary experience but I wish I could go back there this year."
--Abby, 12
"I've gone to a new school, and it can be painful. This will be my second time going to a new school. I'm moving for a second time, and it's hard trying to fit in, to be someone, and most of all, to deal with losing your friends. But after a while, things change, and you make new friends, and you learn to keep in good contact with your old ones. I live a state away from my old friends, but I keep in contact with them constantly."
--Nicole, 12
"I haven't actually been to a different school, but next year I will be!! I will be going into high school! I knowscary. But on top of that, I'm going to a COMPLETELY different high school then all of my friendsto be honest with you I'm a little scared, but mostly excited!"
--Cady, 13
"In the summer before 7th grade, I moved from Massachusetts to Tennessee, and I was FREAKED OUT!!! All my family and friends were in MA, and I didn't know anyone in TN. Well, I found out that the only thing that scared me about southerners is their accents and not being able to understand them!!! Lol. The people here are so loving and they take their time to get to know people, unlike the uptight northerners I knew. But, even though I love the south, I'm moving back home to be with my family. Now I'm even more scared - not only am I going into a new HIGH SCHOOL!!, but I'm also going back to people who don't know the new me (I did change as a result of moving here). It's scary, but just hold your head high and you'll succeed."
--Gabby
"Yes, but I was happy because I was home-schooled for a long time."
--Emi, 10
"I was born and raised in Florida, and I absolutely love it!!! This summer we are moving to Ohio, the middle of nowhere. I'm not as upset as I was, but I'm not totally ok with it. I've always gone to one school, which only has 60 kids! Next year I have to go to a new school with over 700 kids!!! That is a big change!! I am so nervous!!! I'm upset about leaving my friends. Some of them said that they are gonna kidnap me so that I can stay. I'm nervous, but I know that everything will be ok."
--Kelsey, 13
"At the beginning of the school year, a GATE school called me and said they wanted me to go there. I was so excited! I already had a friend that went there. But, when I went there she acted like she knew me. I HATED it and I didn't like my teacher. Luckily I could go back to my old school."
--Rebecca, 11
"I have gone to a new school twice, actually. I just moved in Dec. 2005. Then I moved when I was in 3rd grade, so yeah, I have moved a couple of times. When you think about moving there's something inside of you that wants to go, then another side that doesn't. All you think about is leaving your old friends and trying to make new ones. I made new ones like on the first day but you have to have a good attitude and not be all mad and hateful because you're away from everything you have ever known. It wasn't hard for me to make friends but it is hard to keep them. Sometimes you don't want to and when you feel that way you have to just let them go. Because I think that making friends is like money: you lose it but then you gain it back and you have to earn those friends and be nice to them. ALL TEENS NEED TO KNOW NOT TO BE TWO-FACED! So many teens talk about their best friend behind their backs. They call them awful things, but I'm off the subject. Just try to do what I have asked you to or advised you to do. C-YA!"
--Jamsine, 13
"ASenior: Yeah.. You're right. I mean, misquoting Shakespeare to prove that bullying freshmen so that one day they can bully other freshmen REALLY made me agree with you. I mean, who wouldn't want to be part of an age-old tradition that encourages theft, mockery, harassment, and degradation? Who would think that that's anything like a Nazi tactic of dehumanization? Gee, I don't know, being just a stupid freshman, I couldn't tell you whether I thought it was unconstitutional and illegal. How would I know? SARCASM*SARCASM*SARCASM*SARCASM*SARCASM."
--Jacqueline, 13
"I haven't, but I will. I foresee me crying at the new school because I miss my friends and I hope I make lots of new friends!"

"Well when I was going to fourth grade I had a teacher, Mr. Inman. I had only been there for like two weeks, and then I had to move to a new school. It was hard leaving my bff's. When I got a tour of my new school everyone was staring at me like I was a freak. Then, I met my new teacher. The next day I was going to school- my first day. I was so exited! I dressed in my best clothes. I sat next to this girl named Andra. She showed me where we sat and where everything was. Then she became my bff. And I met a girl named Ashley. She is my bff now. Before we used to fight. Now we are friends!!!!!!!!!!"
--Tianna, 10
"Well I am leaving my private school for a public one. I am already missing my friends but I am sure I will make new ones."

"Now that the school year is almost over, I'm starting the seventh grade soon. I'm sooooo nervous. But in the end, it'll all work out."
--Jackier, 12
"No, but I welcome new kids to our school as well as the other students at our school because we know that they're probably very nervous about making new friends and all. Last year we got a new girl at our school and she didn't know any English, and this year she knows it as if she had spoken it for years!!! She's so sweet."
--Chimpgirl, 11
"When I moved to a new school I thought I would never see my friends again. But by joining after school activities like dance class and soccer, I saw them again. I even ended up playing against a bunch of them in a soccer game!"
--Tayler, 11
"Jacqueline, maybe your friend just isn't mature enough to have fun in an initiation rite. The point is for you to go through the same thing your friends and everyone else in the school has, so that you feel like part of them. It's fun for everyone but the freshmen, and they'll have fun the next year. Come on, what does everybody else think? To initiate or not to initiate, that is the question. Whether tis more gallant to be part of a group, or to rebel against reason"
--ASenior
"Yes I missed my friends Makalah and Kriste. Now I can't call Kriste because she changed her phone number and now the only person I can call is Makalah and my other friend Sabrina because now I know their phone numbers. I'm in 5th grade now."
--Amanda, 11
"Just go with the flow. On your first day, just be yourself, try to make friends, and join clubs. It gets easier over time:)."

"I've been to 6 different elementary schools in my life. The worst part is that you will miss the community you used to live in. But the best part is that you get to make new friends. Ever since I first arrived here, I've made 4 or 5 friends in 1 year here. I still miss my old friends, but I can always visit them during summer vacation or any other break."
--Anonymous, 10
"I never went to a new school so I guess I'll just have to wait for high school! "

"I was nervous the first day of school at junior high school. I walked in and I did not know anybody, but they didn't know me also. But I tried to make new friends. It was sort of embarrassing."
--Dana, 13
"ASenior: I DID ask my friend, and, shockingly, she did not enjoy being tortured by crazed, power-driven 12th graders. I think anyone with a brain in their head would realize that being publicly humiliated at the hands of seniors does not make you closer to your classmates. It just makes you dislike upperclassmen."
--Jacqueline, 13
"Yes I have experience going to a new school. I really miss my friends from my old school but I also made some other great friends. I also made a best friend."
--Ashly, 11

"Moving to an new school is hard! If you are wondering what is so hard about it, it is making new friends, fitting in and catching up to your teacher standards. Warning: these tips may not work. It depends on the teacher. Tip one: Making new friends. Be yourself, observe the first day, and if you see what you like, try out for it...take a risk."

"I felt a bit shy when I went to a new school. I don't have any friends yet. And I have a feeling that everybody is mad at me even the girls. Especially the boys. Gosh! I said to myself that I wanted to go back to my old school. And in the first place I missed my friends."

"Next year I'm going to a new school for high school. I kind of want to go to a new school but then I want to stay in middle school. I don't want to leave my friends behind. I don't want it to be like my first day at middle school when I was a loner. It really stunk."

"When I moved from my school, my friends and I were crying. And I had to leave my crush, but I'm not going to say his name. When I went to my new school, I was crying. I tried to be brave but I couldn't. So when I got to my new classroom, everybody was looking at me like I was crazy, but it was hard at first. And yes, I still miss my friends, but I got used to it. And I've been there for 2 weeks now and it's getting better and better and I have made new friends (a lot of them too). On my birthday I will get to visit my friends at my old school. YAH."

"I need big help. I moved to a new city, and I had to go to a new school! Everyone kept staring at me. But they do it less now. Could someone tell me what to do to make new friends, please?"
--Amna
"I've lived in my current house since I was an infant, and I've never had to switch schools, except for the mandatory switch from elementary to middle school. That totally wasn't a problem. I loved middle school from the moment I walked in. I might be switching schools, though. I really like my school, but my parents say I'm gifted and they kind of wants me to go to private school. I want to go, too, because my current school is not very challenging, but I'm pretty shy and I'm nervous when I meet people. I'm always afraid of saying the wrong thing and alienating them from me. I'm kind of afraid that I wouldn't be able to make any new friends. I mean, my dad's a martial artist, and my two best friends' dads are, too, so when our dads hung out together, we did too, so it was inevitable we'd end up being best friends. But I've never really had to make friends on my own."
--Dragonmistress
"My old school was great, but on Friday the 24th, the classroom phone called me and said you're going to another school, transferred...o I hugged my best friend Jada, but I hate leaving her a lot. So it's time to move on to meet new friends."
--Kaitlin, 11
"Jacqueline, maybe your friend liked being initiated. Some people find that it brings them closer to their new classmates. Maybe you should check first, and make sure you know ALL the facts."
--ASenior
"No, I have not, but I hope it never happens to me."
--Sydney, 10
"Hey, uugh, I used to go to a school, and then I had to leave that school when I got into middle school. I was totally worried that I wouldn't make any friends. Fortunately for me, one of my friends in my old school transferred with me, though were only in Gym together. I made two new friends, and were like BFF!!!"
--JDub, 12
"I was SO afraid of starting high school. I thought that everyone would already know each other and ignore me or even make fun of me. I was afraid that I would start drifting away from all my friends from my old school. I learned that this was not the case. It was much easier to make friends than I expected, because it turned out that there were a lot of kids in my situation that didn't know many people. I'm also finding that I've actually become closer to my old friends than ever before."
--Abby
"I have. It was just a great one. Moving from a whole new other country to another...it's just great. But of course I miss my old friends. But I've made new ones. They're almost like my old ones. Sure I made new ones, but I will never forget them."

"I just moved this past summer to a new town, which meant I had to start 7th grade at a new school. Everyone was really unfriendly. Nobody even looked at melike they couldn't care less and really just treated me like I was invisible. It's already the 2nd semester, and I still only have, like, 2 friends and a couple acquaintances. Yeah, it's definitely been REALLY, REALLY hard for me. And like, these three girls that go to my middle school who live right around my house completely ignore me and gossip about me when we're all walking home from the busand it's really rude and hurtful. It's just so hard for me to try to fit in because everyone has a clique. To this day I'm still trying to make friends and still probably not succeeding"
--Kat, 12
"I miss my friends, teachers and all of the school. I hate the new school. Everyone hates you and is screaming at your face!!!"
--Yasmin, 9
"I have gone to 3 schools in my life, and now I'm moving again. I don't really mind, because I can still see all my friends (from my 3rd school/the one I'm in now) because they'll only be about 45 min. away. And, I can be someone different when I move. I can change my look, act different, etc. Moving is not really that hard when you get to know a few people."

And then I found out I have to move to Temecula. I felt so sad leaving my friends. I still miss them though and I had a lot of friends before. Now I only have a couple and some kids tease me. "I was homeschooled from kindergarten - 2nd grade. In third grade I went to a private Christian school. It was my new church's school. I knew a lot of people but it was scary my first day. But Mrs. Grisson was really nice so now I am in 5th grade and I still go there. I plan to go there until 12th grade."

"Hey, Everyone one this website!! I really was just teasing about Alyssa as my villain. It is actually Avery! That pointy nose, flirting-wit-my-boyfriend, blonde girl! Yea, girls here, do you hate it when girls do that to ya boyfriends? Especially when your BF is your best friend too!? Well, anyways, I hate her because at music class, I sit in front of Sheatal, Corey, and Avery. They all sit together, and then when a group goes up to sing, the fight begins!! Avery sweet talks to Corey, then plays with his hair, and pokes him. Man, I wish I could just slap her right on da face! Man, God, she's like the devil TO ME!!! One good thing is when Avery starts flirting wit Corey, Sheatal is on the way to the rescue! What she does is when Avery does those things, Sheatal starts talking to Corey or Avery to stop them and interrupt 'em! I love my best friends!! "My name is Kileah and I just moved from Lee Summit. Now I go to school at University Academy. Yeah, I do miss friends a lot. I am in the 7th grade and I am trying to fit in. I think after a few months I'll fit in good. I already have 3 friends, so it seems like I'm getting there little by little."
--Kileah, 12
"I have never changed schools. I've always been homeschooled. I have moved 18 times though. The longest we ever stayed in one house is 2 years. That was the house before this. We have always stayed in Washington, except a brief move to California and Arizona. It never really hurt me because I always have friends wherever I am. We now stay only in the Tri-Cities. I'm hoping to move at least 20 times. We'd only need 2 more!"
--Libia, 13
"I have just completed my G. C. E. 'O' Levels examinations and I have advanced to the tertiary level I. E jc/pre-U temporarily. When I went/go to Milennia Institute no one really cares about me and they do not talk to me at all! I feel totally lonely and depressed when people abandon me. No matter how compassionate I am, not one despicable person wants to be friends with me. Sigh"
--Ging
"I recently went to a new school. I thought it would be bad, but things turned out quite well. I'm an honor student and I have a lot of new friends. I came to realize that we cannot be afraid of change."
--Tara, 11
"Well I have been in Middle School since 6th grade so it was fun but I still miss my bud Vlad, and Horace. And at first they made fun of my shoulder length black hair that I tie up, but they got over it fast."
--Matt, 13
"Weeeelllll, not exactly. You see, I'm a homeschooler. But I did move. I missed me friends an' all, but I still made some cool new ones. Well see ya!!!"
--Murr, 11
"I want to say something here because there's really no space anywhere else. My two best friends and I have all just started freshman year of high school in three different schools. One of them (who goes to my school's archrival) had a school-sponsored hazing activity in September. In between classes, seniors would demand candy from them and then at lunch they made them do embarrassing things like make them jump up and down like a monkey and dance by themselves. Now, my Latin club is having a hazing ritual, too. I'm going to resist! Hazing is illegal in 44 states, even if some teachers support it. I'm calling for a rally against hazing! Freshmen band together! WE WILL OVERCOME, IN THE NAME OF THOSE BEFORE US! POWER TO US! Violence isn't the answer, the answer is: start a petition, talk to your friends about it, just say no, scream no, or tell your parents to protest. Vive la revolutione! * Just in case you don't know, hazing is a traditionally humiliating or dangerous initiation rite for neophytes who lack the necessary self esteem to resist."

"YES!!! I graduated from elementary school last year, and I experienced going to a whole new KIND of school! Middle school! I was SO scared because it was bigger than my old school, and I feared getting lost. But now, I am used to middle school. I have already made 14 new friends! All in all, I like it better than my old school (No offense Sousa Elementary School!)."
--HarryPotter, 11
"Yeah, and I hated it 'cos I got bullied all the time. We actually moved to a different state. Mercifully, mom and dad saw how I hated it and we moved back to Idaho."

"I did attend a new school once before and it was terrifying. I didn't know where my classroom was and I didn't have any friends. That day, during lunch period, all the kids went their own separate ways. Everyone knew what group they belonged to. It was really lonely for me. Not only did I not have any friends there, but also nobody took a second glance at me. I just wanted to curl up and cry my heart out. I missed my friends in my old school so much that it was hard for me to stop sobbing in class. But then it got worse. Every time I cried, the kids just laughed until the teacher told them to stop. It's never easy fitting in to a new school."
--Mercy
"I went to several new schools. I went to preschool, then a different kindergarten, then I moved to a totally different state for 1st, 2nd, and half of 3rd grade. The other half was at a new school. Then I moved to a different town before 4th grade. Now I am entering 9th grade, in the same school district. It can be horrifying, but when I entered 4th grade, my teacher put me by a girl named Jessica, and she turned out to be my best friend, and we're still best friends today. So don't worry, you WILL make plenty of new friends. In fact I'm one of the most popular people in my grade, and I'm going to try out for the cheerleading squad. Just be nice to other people and you'll make friends in no time at all. I promise."
--Jenna, 13
"I did have the experience of going to a new school and I really missed my friends back there. But sure, I made new friends and some of them were from my old school. And I was so happy about that but I made new friends."
--Lisa, 13
"I wrote something before, and now I wanna add something. Now I'm in middle school, so that's 8 schools, but I've met more people in middle school. Its fun!"

"Does the conversion from elementary to middle school count? If it does, I have to tell you one thing: IT'S SO NERVEWRACKING. But you eventually get over it."
--Anonymous, 12
"Yes I experienced going to a new school because everything was different. I didn't see familiar people in my class the last year with my other friends. Yes I did miss my old friends because I was with them since pre-k and nobody wants to leave a school without their best friends like me. Yes on the first day I made a lot. I talked to them. I asked them what school did they go to before they came to this school? Remember: my words are You have to treat people nice and be respectful to others to have many friends.' Here is my answer to you Kate."
--ASHLEY, 11
"I moved to Wisconsin from Philadelphia when I was 9. My new school was great. There are spelling bees, geography bees, and a good strings program. Also I made new friends and a new crush when I got there. But they both moved. I found new friends and I am happy now. My friend's name was Brittany and my crush's name was Drew. I MISS U BRITTANY!!!"
--ScottishCat, 13
"I moved to stinky old Allison elementary. I made new friends and all, but the thing is I hate all the teachers except Miss. Hickey. I'm in fourth grade but they taught me more than my old school."

"I miss my old school so much, everything in this school stinks and I can't stand anyone I want to go back to my old school but I don't know how to talk to my parents about it."
--Leslie
"Yes, I have experienced going to a new school MANY times. Once, I switched from one school that had all of my friends in it to another school where I didn't know anybody. I made new friends on and off throughout each grade. Now I'm in middle school, which is totally moving to a new school. I've made one friend, but she's a really good friend, though. My advice to anyone who's going to a brand new school is to try to keep in touch with your old friends, and at the same time, make some new friends, too!"
--CaroleAnn, 12
"I was a bit shy when I started because I thought I was going to get teased because I was in middle and older kids like to make fun of younger students. But everything is going great and I get along with different people every day in my school in any grade because I believed in myself in not getting teased by others. Also because I have LOTS of friends who will always have my back. And this was moving from Connecticut to Florida, which is a big change! But u always have to move on with your life. But I'm happy living here in Florida, but I really truly miss my friends from CT. I will never forget them."
--Stacey, 12

"I started in the new school because I was moved in England. And now I hate the new school, and I don't want to go to it. It's just terrible school, it has really stupid students. I have a friend from Australia and she hates school too. My mum says it is a really good school, but I don't think so! Please help me!!!"

"Hello again!! Well, I now have a villain in school: Alyssa."

"Moving from Cleveland, Ohio to Boston, Mass was the hardest thing in my whole life. I had to make a whole bunch of new friends, plus no kid would talk to me for weeks at my new school (I was the only one who didn't have a Boston accent). Luckily, I had my little sisters (ages 1 and 10) with me so it made it a little easier. I visit my Cleveland friends every school break and we talk through AIM and email in between. My new Boston friends are pretty cool, but I still miss Cleveland."
--Allison, 11
"It was really cooool when I entered my new school. Ya, I really miss my old friends but cannot make new friends like that...."
--Asad, 12
"I just changed schools. It was very hard!! I cried almost every day after school. But I made friends on the first day, but it wasn't the same. I moved away from the best place ever. I still want to move back and it's been 4 months."
--Daisy, 12
"When I came to a new school I was in third grade. I had awesome friends but when I got here I got even better friends because we all live in a little community and we are all closer together."
--Megan, 13
"Yes, right now I'm going to a new school. I really miss my friends and my old school too. Yes, I made new friends but some of them have turned out to be fake and snobby and I hate snobby people. Some of them are really nice, but beware: there are some people out there who will hurt you time and time again and will keep doing that if you let them. Until you say No, sorry doesn't cut it,' they will do the same thing over and over again."
--Malika, 11
"I moved when I was in 3rd grade and I had made lots of friends. But I had to move. I told my friends I would visit them whenever I could. Then a year later at my school you couldn't imagine how many friends I have made in the past year. So you shouldn't be scared of moving. It's also good to meet new people! =)."
--Linh, 11
"I have friends that have moved to a different school. They say that they don't like it. They don't really know anyone there. They feel like an outcast."
--Alex, 11
"Going to a new school is a little sad because you start to miss your old friends, but on the plus side, you get a fresh start to be cool. Personally, at a new school, I don't think you have to be cool. If most kids hate you, so what? One day, those same kids will work for you."
--Rodney, 12
"Yeah, I've been to a new school. But it was when I was in first grade, and when you're that young, everyone wants to be friends with the new kid. But as you get older and move to a new school, it's harder to fit in because people don't care as much."
--Jacey
"I going to middle school next year and I'm scared. And could I ask you a question? How do you get detention??"
--Angel, 12
"Yes, I moved from public skool to homeschool. So to answer your question Katie, no!!:)."
--IrishAngel, 10
"Well next year I'm going to this high school. I don't want to go to, but my parents are making me go there. I'll miss my friends so much, and now I have to make new friends. But I'm gonna keep in touch with some of them, luckily. My life is sooooo ruined!!!!"
--Anonymous
"When you think about changing schools it seems like it will almost be impossible to actually like your new school. And you will probably think that it will be so different than your old school, but as the first day there gets closer, you aren't as scared anymore. I was actually looking forward to it. The kids aren't all that different and you'll probably find some people like a group that you will fit perfectly in. I still miss my old friends at my old school but I probably wouldn't go back there. Changing schools is a lot easier than it is made out to be."
--Anonymous, 12
"Hi. I'm moving in a few days, and I've already been taken out of school. I thought it'd be great, but I miss it. A lot. I guess it's one of those 'don't know what you got till it's gone' thingsI miss my friends, cause I might not see them again. I can still talk to them, sure, but I won't be able to see them. I know I might make new friends, but I can't help it. Why should I have to stop seeing them and forget about them just because I won't be near them? Why should I move on? I can't really help that I want to still be able to hang out with people that I won't be able to see again. I'm moving far from here, where I've been my whole life."
--Leigha
"In the first day of school I was so scared to meet my new teacher. We went outside to play tag with my old friends from 3-5grade. Finally, we went to social studies class and then math class. That's what I did on my first day of school."
--Jessica, 10
"It's sad because I miss my best friends."
--Hannah
"Well it is a little hard when you're at a new school and you try not to cry in class. And then everyone starts to crowd around you and they ask you what's wrong, and you don't fell like answering the question. Then soon you will get over it and find new ones."
--Shenerica, 10
"I had this crush on this guy in 5th grade and I'm only in 4th, but then things got a lot worse. My crush was moving to a new school! I was about to cry, and I'm still getting over it!"
--Quinn, 10
"I moved to a new school, and I love it. I don't miss any of my friends from back home, because they were really mean to me. I found a lot of new, fun friends who really like me, and we do everything together. So, if you're moving to a new school, take this as proof that it can be really fun."
--Cailla
"Hey! I am home schooled, and I'm going to a private school next year. I'm REALLY excited. And as a bonus, my crush goes there! Whoopee! LOL."

"Yeah, my dad's in the army so we're ALWAYS moving!! I can't stand it! Just as I make new friends (which my mom always encourages me to do) we have to move!! I have their e-m and stuff, but it's not the same. I especially miss my first best friend Tyler, we met in preschool and were (and still are, I think) best friends till fifth grade when my dad first joined the army. I cried my eyes out at Tyler's house when I first heard we were moving. I'm currently in Florida. I like my new school, I guess. P. S. I'm a girl."
--Greendayfan, 13
"I just moved recently during the summer. Even though I moved to Thunder Bay from Windsor, it might as well be Timbuktu!! Besides the cold, I'm settling in. It's not as hard as I thought it would be. I actually made good friends!! :-) Of course I keep in touch with my friends back in Windsor!!"
--Amy, 11
"Have you ever been to a new school, had to make new friends, had new rules? Well you aren't the only one! When I went to East as a transfer student, I made friends right away! Not all new experiences are bad ones! PLUS, most of the time, there are some fine boys if you know what I mean"
--Jocelyn, 13
"I just went to a new school last year and at first it was really horrible, but it wasn't because of the new school. It was because for the first 4 months I had to live in a motor home with my dad while my mom worked in my hometown because the house we were going to live in wasn't finished. When it was, everyone asked me if I was moved in yet for a month."
--MaydayMK, 10
"I went to a new school. Everyone hated me. After 2 years I am now friends with a handful of people (I wasn't making the hating thing up, my best friend said she hated me for getting a lead part in a play when I was new)."
--Rebecca, 11
"Hi I'm Bailey. I'm going to a new school. I don't know if someone's going to pick on me, so now I'm scared, and now I'm all Aunt Carrie will you sit with me?'"
--Bailey, 8
"I've been in a new school for two years and I can't stop thinking about all my old friends. I really want to go back and see them again for one year of school but I don't know if the school will let me."
--Taylor, 9
"HEY, HEY, HEY! I love this school! Corey, my best friend and crush, plus he likes me and has a crush on me, we love it here! And one of my best friends from 2nd grade, Seatal, is in my class this year. And plus, I already told her that I like Corey and everybody knows that he likes me! We sit next to each other and all that stuffy! But one prob. is that he is kinda cute and some of these girls like him and I do not like that! They look at him and flirt with him! Errr! We're like best, best friends (I mean me and Corey)! I really like him and he likes me a lot too! Such a great best friend!"
--Judy, 9
"When I went to one school I found a new friend. When I went to a new school I was nervous, but now I am not nervous anymore, and now I have found new friend named Linsey."

"Well, I might be moving, and, well, I'm sorta scared. I want a new start, and my family might be going out of state! I've been in my hometown like all my life, and all the people at my school think I'm weird and stupid (acually I'm quite smart) so I want a new fresh start, but I'm scared it will just become worse!!! What to do?"
--Weird, 11

"I moved into a new school last month and I think I have not really made friends n I am not so happy at all. Most of my m8s who I have known for a month came at the same time as me. But they r 6 of us in a group, 2 of them r best m8s and the other 3 r best m8s leaving me out. I don't have a best m8 anymore. *Sob*."

"My name is Louis. I have changed schools 3 times within the last year. I get teased a lot because of my weight and my disability. My last school was private Christian and they were very nice and I miss everyone. My mom is looking for a new school now again because they didn't have the right teachers for me. Wish me luck and pray. Thank you."

"In Richland Mississippi at the Upper Elementary what is so different is that the 3rd grade through 5th grade get recess every day but the 6th grade gets break only on Fridays."
--Jason, 11
"It was the end of 5th grade for me, and my dad told me that I might be moving to Arizona or Texas. I was so worried. :( I ended up moving to Texas and I really missed my friends in Gurnee, Illinois (near Chicago). Sometimes I wish I could go back there and see what it would be like there. I already miss my relatives. I was so determined to move because it would be a fresh start for me. On the first day of school I felt like no one was interested in me. Eventually, I made some new friends. The difference was I went to an Intermediate building and the following year I was supposed to go to Middle School and I am now in an Intermediate building. I felt mixed up when I heard it. But now I love where I live."
--Angelica, 11
"Going to a new school can be exciting and also can be rough. It really depends on where you start. You might feel like you miss your old friends but hey, you can still call them and do things with them on weekends. If you are going to a new school, don't feel sad, you should know that you are meeting a lot of people. Not just kids from one school, but kids from another school too! Many people are worried about new schools, but hey, it's all a part of life. You HAVE to go to a new school, which can be middle schools, high schools, and colleges. And, many of your friends won't end up at the same college you go to. Be glad that you are switching schools, you get to experience a big part of life before everyone else. Good luck with your new schools!"
--Tia
"The only taste of moving to a different school was going into middle school. It was way different, but I made soo many friends."
--Lauren
"I have recently gone to a new school. I was on vacation and the day I was leaving my Mom called and told me. I had to go to a new school the next day! I was scared, nervous, and sad all together. I went to the new school. It was okay at first. I was really depressed. I missed my friends. I talked to my Mom and I felt a little better. I once got in a small fight with this boy. I feel better now than I did before. I am sort of shy. I made a few friends. P. S. I still live in the same house. Sometimes I pass my old school."
--Ryant, 11
"I had to go to a different middle school then all my friends. I started it thinking Everyone's gonna hate me. I'll never make friends. Everyone already has their friends." Well, it's totally different then that. It's only like the 5th week of school and I hear people call my name down the hall every day! I love my school!"
--Morgen, 12
"I moved to a new school when I was in the third grade. I could tell that everyone was staring at me when I came into my new class. I miss my old classmates, but I made a lot of friends quickly. Now I'm in the seventh grade and I love my new school!"
--Tsega , 12
"When I was done with fifth grade I was really proud to be old enough for middle school. I never even really thought about it that summer. Then one week before school started my mom started freaking out. She kept buying me school supplies and telling me not to be afraid. I got so annoyed with it I screamed at her. She stopped until the morning of the first day, then she started again. It was so annoying!!!."
--TK, 12

"Yes, going to a new skool is always hard for some people like me because I am different from other. It was hard for me because I'm a different race and I look different from others but the true thing that counts is that u have a good heart for learning cause it's skool and u want to b here to learn not what others think of u. Yeah it may be hard 2 adjust, but you'll get there eventuallyjust always remember it's the insides that count not the outsides"
--Sarina, 12
"I have never had to move, but a lot of my friends have moved and they told me it was very embarrassing to be stared at. But now they have a lot more friends then they used to and we still get to see each other every once in a looooonnnng while!!"

"Just last year I went to a new school. I wanted to yet I didn't, because I'm not good at making friends. Eventually I made some new friends. But it took time. My new friends are really different, but oh well. I think they are better then my old friends but yea. Not very exciting."

"Yes I have changed schools about 5 times and although it's really weird I always managed to make new friends."
--Steph, 13
"Going to a new school was always hard for me. It took me about 3 weeks just to make a lunch buddy. After that I was very lonely, no one seemed to want to be my partner and I always had to do speeches in class. After the first year I knew almost everybody (but they weren't my best friends). It takes time and patience but most of all a good attitude and a good sense of humor. After all, everyone likes to laugh right?"
--Cookie
"I moved to high school in December 2004, and that was kind of frightening, because there are all sorts of new people and rules to deal with -- that can be stressful! I settled in pretty fast, though! I do miss my friends from my other school, but we write letters and email, so it's OK! I haven't really made any new friends, because the students at my school are, well, weird. I'm a different kind of person than they are. I'm doing pretty well now."

"When I was going to a new school called College Hills I didn't think I was going to meet any friends. In China I didn't really like my school because the teachers were mean, so I thought that the American teachers were mean, but they were not."

"Hi, I am going to a new school. There are bullies, big meanieseven people that make fun of me. And I have problems about making friends so I am pretty much a loner."
--Margaret, 9
"Yeah -- I was transferred to another school in the district with a whole lot of other kids because we lived further away from the school than the other kids there. It was hard to get used to at first because there were so many cliques and it was hard to find a friend. Also, I really missed my BFFs from my old school, but we kept in touch. Eventually, I found some new BFFs who weren't snobby like most of the kids at school. I'm going into middle school and I'm pschyed because my old friends are going to the same school! To anyone going to a new school- good luck :)."
--Amelia, 11
"Yes, I changed schools in the middle of 6th grade and it was hard to leave all my friends. It was even harder to make new ones! In fact I made enemies easier than new friends since some girls were mean to me since I was new. I ended up getting in a fistfight with one of those girls. It took me a year to make a few new friends."
--Britney, 12
"I'm starting high school in September which will be the 5th school I've been to. When I was younger, I didn't have much of a problem changing schools. When I went to my previous school in 3rd grade, though, it took a long time to fit in. Everyone already knew each other. It took about 2 or 3 years before I felt like I fit in. My advice to everyone starting a new school without knowing anyone is to be friendly and don't feel afraid to approach kids, especially those who aren't sitting with anyone. Now that I'm starting high school, I already know 2 kids from my old school, but I'll still have to be extra friendly to make new friends."

"When I was in elementary school I was so scared about middle school. I thought I'd have no friends b/c the only other girl who was going to my middle school was this mean girl Aria who didn't talk to me. On the first day I met a whole bunch of girls, like my best friends Traphena, Andrea, & Nakia. Pretty much everybody was really nice. I'm going to high school in one week and I'm not scared b/c last time I was scared everything turned out okno, it turned out PERFECT."

"Yea, moving stinks, but you get to meet a lot of new people. It's scary at first but after you meet at least one person they will guide you through the whole school year. This year I have to start at a new school, and I'm really freaked out but I know I'll be okay. I'm writing this to help other kids deal with moving to a new school. You may find it very frightening at first but it will get betterI promise you that. As I am writing this down I am trying to convince myself the same thing. Have fun at your new school!:)."
--Step, 13
"I lived in California for 6 years. My mom decided to move my sisters and I to Maine where all of our family was. My stepfather also came too. I went to a new school. I was in 5th grade. It was smaller and had less of a population, and the climate and weather was very different. It was the first time I had ever seen snow! Yes, I really did miss my friends in San Diego but now I have even more friends! I love Maine now, and I even have a family environment to be around."
--Brooke
"Ever since I was five I went to the same school. But next year I'll be going to high school and I do feel a little bit scared. But most of my friends will be there. Not all, but most. But I do know even if my friends weren't going I'd still make plenty of friends anyway."
--Erin, 11
"I am going to a new school and riding the bus. It's scary going to a new school."
--Rebecca, 9
"I'm going to a new school myself in September. About 2 weeks from now! I had to take a screening test and I also got to see a bit of the school (not all of it, because they were under construction) recently, but I'm still nervous yet excited. Any tips, anyone?"
--Vanessa, 11
"Ever since I was 5, I had to go to a new school every year. I never knew what it was like to go to school two years in a row. And my memory is a bit bad, so I never really get the chance to memorize my schools. Anyway, in fifth grade, I finally went to the same school for almost two years. Yes, almost. About two or three months before school ended in sixth, I moved again. I miss all my old friends, and it really stinks for two reasons. One is that I have to go to the newest school for like another month. And the other thing is that after that, I'm moving 800 miles away. Going to new schools really stinks. Especially alone."
--Keyla, 12
"I had to move from my friends. Anyways it was fun. I liked my teachers, and maybe you will too. I bet you will do fine Katie."
--Mikayla, 10
"This year I'm going to a new school and I'm a little bit nervous. I've always been at the same school since I was 4. I'm excited and I know it'll be alright!"
--Patrika, 12
"I have had to switch schools 3 times: once in kindergarten (I didn't mind much), another time in grade 5 (I missed my friends, but made many new ones in grade six). Also middle school was kind of scary because there are like 3 other feeder' schools. But I made some new friends, so it was cool."
--Samantha, 13
"Yeah. My old school was TINY, and had to close down. It was so small, we got a lot of individual attention, and we got to skip 2 grades. Anyway, the kids there were mean and made fun of me and beat me up so I didn't miss them. At my new school, kids were calling me a midget because I was a lot smaller than them. One girl, Consuelo, was nice and talked to me...We've been best friends for the last 4 years, and the next year, we got another best friend, Jenn. You guys are the best!"
--Jacqueline, 12
"I moved from Florida to California in the middle of 7th grade. I was really nervous to go to school, since I was scared I wouldn't make any friends. My first day there, people came up to me and started talking, asking questions like where I was from, why I moved...stuff like that. By the end of the year I had a bunch of friends and I was glad I moved. I did miss my friends, but not as much anymore."
--Lauren
"I've gone to SIX schools in my life. Since I'm kind of a loner and have a hard time getting along with people (they call me weird), I don't really make friends. Except when two years ago I came to this Christian school! Boy, everyone was nice to me (yes, even boys) and I made friends with the girls! Now I'm really happy, and I'm not so sad anymore!"
--'DW', 13
"I have been to exactly 11 different elementary school and 2 middle school and in 2 months I'm going to another school! Ergh...but I usually always make friends...(besides 5th grade when I sort of went into a depression state and had to see a counselor during lunch every day...The kids thought I was a weirdo)...but yes, I always miss my friends from my other school, but I get over it. I've known one of my friends in my current school since 3rd grade because I went to her school and we were best friends in 3rd grade and half of 4th. Then when I moved, we always kept in touch. Now, we are going to the same middle school...ironic, right?"
--Anonymous, 13
"Yes! I went to a Catholic one first, then a public school! It was different but I liked it cause I met a cute boy who is not rough or anything! Anyways in the Catholic school I was there for preschool to 1st grade. I transferred to NSES which was the public school and I was there for 2nd and 3rd. But guess what? It doesn't go any higher so I am going to another school, but it is better though cause it is in the same town! So I will see everybody!!! Except when I was in Catholic school I lived somewhere else! But now I am in a different place but I am still going to see all my friends from NSES! Yahoo!"
--Judy, 9
"I tried out for a college-preparatory private school so I'm going there for 7th grade in the fall of '05. I'm glad I get to stay in the same town, so I can still visit my old friends easily. I'm a little nervous (okay, a LOT) about going there, but I think it's okay. I have a lot of experience with moving."
--Anonymous
"My experience of going to a new school is good because I get to start over and meet new people and become more popular."
--Diamond, 12
"I'm going to the 6th grade next fall of 2005. I wanted to go to a middle school with my friends, but I couldn't because I live near another middle school that my mom said is much better. I'm going to miss my friends next year, even though I have some of their email addresses."
--Anonymous, 11
"I hate going to new schools, and I especially hate new things in my life. Just thinking that I'm going to a new high school scares me. The fear that I'll never make friends again or my most favorite will never fit in. Why can't stay in my old school? In one way I'm excited that I made it to high school, but on the other side"
--Arlene
"I'm starting at a new college-preparatory school this fall that I tried out for, even though my old school goes up to 8th grade and I'm now entering 7th at this new school. I'm a little nervous, even though I moved a lot before."
--Anonymous
"I have experienced going to another school and I don't like it. It feels very weird. :/."
--Kiara, 9
"I'm going to 5th grade this year. Next year: middle school. I think it's going to be cool to go to a new school, I just want to know how other kids think about middle school. I hope it's fun and cool. SEE YA!"
--Kelsey, 10
"Last summer I moved to another state, starting sixth grade. I didn't know anyone, and didn't make friends for two months. Now I'm going to another school again, and have more knowledge about it."
--Laura, 11
"No, but I'm moving soon. I'm moving so far away from my friends. I'm gonna be in the northern parts of Ontario, and they're gonna be in the southern parts. I'M SCARED-ISH!!:-( plus I'm also shy!! :-(.)"
--Amy, 11
"Yes, I went to a new school. It wasn't bad because I met this other new girl and we became good friends. But I missed my old friends really bad. It's ok because we call each other and still go out to the mall or movies or something."
--Anonymous, 13
"My family just moved from Virginia to Alabama, so I'm starting at a new middle school."
--Hannah, 13
"I had a really complicated school situation, so I'll try and explain as best I can: When I first moved here, I was going to go to school A, but it was overcrowded, so I went to school B. The summer before 5th grade, I moved to MA for a year. When I came back, school A wasn't overcrowded, so I was going to go there. But at school A, the 6th graders went to middle school, while at school B, they didn't. So I was at MS while all my old friends weren't. I made friends with some trendy girls at first, but they turned out to be really mean to this guy. I left their group and started to hang out with this group of guys. They are so much nicer, even though they are the school nerds, and my only fear is that my friends from school B, who I have grown apart from, will be coming back next year. Sorry this was so long!"
--Miranda, 12
"Well, I'm going to go to a new school for the fall of 2005 and beyond, for 7th grade. I'm not moving or anything, it's just a college-preparatory school that you have to try out for. I'm glad I'm going to be in the same town and still be able to visit friends. I'm really nervous and everything because my old school goes up to eighth grade and I have to make new friends all over."
--Anonymous, 12
"Definitely yes! I went from my pre-school to Madison School. From Madison School to Heritage School. From Heritage school to homeschool (1year). From homeschool to the Classical Academy Charter School. Then I am going from TCA to I think some kind of middle school. No. I didn't have any friends at the time. No I didn't make any new friends (don't know how)."
--Ivy , 12
"I loved my first day at Grove Elementary, and I met some people, and I can't wait to go to 5th Grade over there."
--Jasmine , 10
"Well, tomorrow I'm taking a test to get into a new school. I am scared: am I losing my old friends? My mom says to keep the changing schools a secret from my cousin cause she thinks my cousin will follow us. What do I do?"
--Aviel, 10
"Well, I just finished fifth grade and I'm going to middle school. So, if I don't get classes with them, then yes, I would miss them so bad 'cause we're really close. And, I don't know if ill make new ones but I'll see."
--Brittany, 11
"I just recently went to a new school in 6th grade, 3 months before school was out. I'm going to 7th grade now and the only thing that I can count on to be there with me is my very best friend Kristi and my stepsister Paige. Kristi and Paige were both there to welcome me to a new school and that was exactly what I needed. That right there, that's what REAL friends are for. Don't fall for those fakes."
--Jessica , 13
"I went to school in Argentina (K-3) and did the rest in the United States (Texas). But now that I moved to another city, I really want to know what the people are like at this new school so I don't make a fool of myself. Have a nice day!"
--Paula, 13
"I haven't really experienced going to a new school, but I am in a couple of months! We're going to move in a couple of months! We're going to move into another state. I'm really nervous because I'm not going to know the school or the people!! I'm really nervous!!! I don't want to move. I want to stay here with my friends and my school."
--Jessica, 12
"I'm really scared because I don't know anyone at this particular school. It is massive. I might get lost on my own! Can anyone help? Please."
--Chloe, 11
"Katie, it is scary to go to a new school because you don't know anybody, but I found friends. Yes I missed my old friends. Did you?"
--Genice, 11
"On my first day at a new school a guy called Sam came up to me and said, Your face looks funny and your eyes are too close.' He ran away, lol, and I chased him and head butted him!!!!!"
--Hannah, 13
"Yes, I've gone to a new school before. I used to be shy and barely had any friends. But now I'm one of the popular kids!"
--Someone, 11
"Well, for my middle school and high school years I will be moving to a different school building. I don't really miss any of my friends because most of my friends except one are going to the same school. We've been friends since 2nd grade."
--SYCO
"When I moved to a new school, I didn't have any friends. A few weeks later, I made new ones and got used to everyone."
--Laila, 11
"I'm going to really miss my mates. I have been living here all my life. I have to move about 3 hours away from where I live now! I'm going to live by the sea in Devon in the summer holidays, which is like a week away! I only found out about it a couple of days ago. It was really hard to sink in. But in other ways it is kind of exciting. I'm going to live by the beach, and am going to have a really nice house. I get a new bedroom. I will probably get loads of new mates. But best off, it's a new experience."
--Jayde, 12
"This year I will b going to a different school I'm going to b in the 8th grade, so I'm not really scared or anything like that, it's just that the school I'll b going to is NOT a mainstream school. It's actually a school for kids that don't belong' in a mainstream school. It's basically a school 4 bad kids'."
--Chris
"When I moved, as my dad found a different job and it was too far away for him to go from our old house. I was six then. I had to leave a few mates behind, but now I have even more new mates. I also keep in touch with my other mates (I text or call them at least once a week and sometimes we meet up). If you're about to move away from your mates and going to another school, don't worry because you can get some more mates and still keep the mates that you've got."
--Jane, 11
"The first time I transferred to another school was when I was 7 years old (year 2). I transferred to this school called International School Brunei (ISB). It was a great experience for me. I made new friends but they don't last, they end up moving to another school. Now my mum announces to me that I'll be leaving school and transferring to another school. The thing is, I'm afraid whether the students there will like me? Do I have to pretend to be someone else if they don't like me for who I am? Will I make new friends? Will I be the fastest runner like I used to in ISB?"
--Zie, 13
"I've already gone to two different schools, and at first it seemed scary. But as soon as I walked into the building I met a girl going into the same grade as me and we became friends."
--Anne, 8
"I went to two schools in California and also I did miss my friends and also I did make new ones. And also I did go to one with a uniform and one without them and also you have to wear some shoes on your feet. And also I do like going to the one that I go to now and in the summer I don't go to school. And I went to schools in Georgia too, and it was good that I made friends."
--Carly, 11
"I'm out of 4th grade school. I used to be in home school for all of my life. In 5th grade my parents decided that I should go to a real school. I'm scared."
--April, 10
"Hi, I'm new at my high school, and my friends moved and now I have no friends."
--Frances
"No, but my friend Massie has been to 5 different schools."
--Maris, 12
"Next year I'm going to a new school that makes me really scared. And I'm changing schools as I go into my first year of middle school, and that makes me extra scared!"
--Brittney, 11
"Next year I'm going to high school. I miss my friend and I'm really shy about it. I'm shy to meet my new teacher and new friend."
--Alma
"Going to a new school is AWESOME! I did, and I'm so glad I did, since my old school was having trouble with bomb threats in the last 5 years. My current school is so cool, and we do a ton of fun things, and I have had a better time there than at my other school."
--Dani
"I will be moving to a new school. I will be moving to Germany because my mom met this guy and he is German. It was really tough."
--Caitlin, 11
"I've been to four schools since Kindergarten and I am now in 7th grade. All you have to do is walk in on the first day like you've been going there your whole life. Talk to people and be nice, smile a lot. And in a few days you'll have plenty of friends. It always worked for me. You miss your old friends but you find new ones."
--Leah, 12
"Oh yeah, when I was in kindergarten I had to move from Bountiful to Farmington. I lived in an apartment and on the next floor lived a girl my age. She was nice and when I moved I guess I didn't think about not seeing her, I mean I was only five. Then I moved and now I look back and think, If I were my age now back then, I would be sobbing my eyes out.' Now I am pretty popular at school and I am totally happy we moved."
--Totallyrad, 11
"Luckily, I've never had to switch schools in the middle of the school year. Next year is high school though, so I'm very nervous cuz there's gonna be 2000 (no, I'm not joking) more kids than there are in my middle school (which is about 1500). WOW!"
--Maya, 13
"I went to St. Theresa's for kindergarten to grade 3, and then I went to Roncalli Elementary. I missed my friends a lot and a lot, but I knew some peeps there, like Jillian and Brandon. Hi ya all! Love, Rebecca."
--Rebecca, 10
"I did miss my dear pals, and I always will!"
--Nyasha, 9
"To Laura, 12: I also am going to a middle school, but my friends are coming with me."
--Elizabeth, 11
"I have been to three different schools. One in Argentina (K-4), one in North Dakota (5-6) and now New York (7-12). It is OK, because I meet lots of cool people."
--Manny, 13
"Yes! I experienced a huge change! I went from Homeschooling for six years to CSY.' It was a huge change. There were tons of kids, the grading was harder, and it had a faster pace. I didn't really fit in at first, but by the end of the year I was friends with almost everyone in my grade. It was cool! I really liked it! P. S. Kelsey, age 11: how do you know you'll end up being the most popular girl?' That's thinking WAY too highly of yourself!!!"
--Amanda, 13
"Hey! I'm Nathan and it was hard 4 me last school year to have to move from a middle school in Charlotte, North Carolina to a middle school in Vancouver, Washington (I had to move 'cuz my real mom died). But now I'm in the 7th grade and my mom' said that if I get a summer job and if I can make my own money for a one way ticket back to North Carolina then I can go. And if I go, she said it's up to me if I come back to Vancouver, Washington or not! So at the end of this school year (14 days away) I'll be working from 7:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. to make the money for my one way ticket back to North Carolina, because I HATE IT HERE AND I MISS MY HOME TOWN!"
--Nathan
"I am going to a new school next year. I am going to miss my friends, and I don't even know which way is my classroom or any other rooms. It's funny."
--Navdip, 10
"Yes, I did miss my friends."
--Wesley, 12
"I'm going to middle school and I don't know the way around, and I do not know any eighth graders or seventh graders. And I don't know who is my teacher. Life is not the same now. I'm kind of exited."
--Laura, 12
"I have never gone to a new school and I don't want to, but I am gong to middle school next year! I will miss my teachers but my friends are coming with me."
--Selena, 10
"I'm going to go to a diff. school. Well, I'm going to middle school and, well, I think that I'll be fine in it, but I'll miss a few of my friends because they're not going to go to the same middle school. But I'll still hang out, and whatever school I go to I end up being the most popular girl!"
--Kelsey, 11
"I went to school in Las Vegas for kindergarten. Then right after my little brother was born, we moved to St. Augustine, Florida, where I currently live. I have lived in warm places all my life. My school in St. Augustine is great. We have a pool and it's a tradition to wear your swimsuit to school on the last day and when the bell rings, you jump in! It is cool."
--Michelle, 12
"Well, I come from British Columbia, Canada, and I had to move across the country! Sure, I miss my friends, but I made new ones (plus me and my old friends communicate with MSN messenger). I spent the entire summer of 2004 driving across the country."
--Cory, 10
"I'd like to add that I was in my old school for my 4th grade year but I transferred after my mom and stepdad got married. My mom and stepdad felt it would be good to learn about my stepdad's religion while keeping up with my Hebrew studies. So now I know a lot about my stepdad's religion, and I teach him about being Jewish. I GET TO HAVE MY BAR MITZVAH IN OCTOBER!!!!! I AM SO EXCITED! YEAH, GO ME!!!!!"."
--Nick, 12
"From my perspective, changing to a new school can be hard. I started in a new school last month and it was really scary. But once you get to know your classmates, you become really good friends. I guess once you start to get to know everybody and your teachers it gets really easy. When I started school in April I came from being homeschooled. At first it was really hard, but then when I got to know most of the people in the school it got to be easier and now I am almost through the end of the school year and have a lot of friends. My teachers know that I was homeschooled, so they are helping me with the stuff I don't get or understand."
--Katie
"No I haven't, but when I first went to middle school and I didn't know anyone I felt so left out. It was a really bad experience for me because I didn't know how to react and the first few days it was hard for me."
--Rocio, 13
"I moved to a new neighborhood right before 4th grade. The only school nearby is a Christian school and it was tough because the only Christian I have in me is my stepdad (I'm Jewish). But I have adjusted and it is okay. The teachers learned that Jews and Christians share a lot in religions."
--Nick, 12
"I have moved 3 times. Once after kindergarten, once after 2nd grade, and once after 4th grade. I love my school now, even if it is stricter because it's a Christian school. We do lots of social events and I am captain of the 5th/6th grade gold team cheerleading squad."
--Maris, 12
"Yeah. When I was 9 my dad told us that he got a new job in Wisconsin. Our new house was gonna be in the burbs (I used to live in Philadelphia). My new school was cool. I even got a boyfriend in 5th grade. He moved before we started middle school but it's OK. My best friends are Emily, Susie, and Ally and THEY ROCK DA HOUSE!!!!! They are the coolest. Even the popular kids are nice. I liked switching schools even though I left my best friends Emerald, Ashley, Katherine, and Amanda. U GUYS ROCK!!!!!"."
--Olivia, 12
"Yes. A lot! When I moved, I couldn't make friends easily because I am very shy. There was another shy girl, and she became my friend. Then she was on my bus. Then she was my neighbor! We are still friends!!!"
--Abby, 10
"Next year I'm going to middle school. I bet it's going to be hard for me."
--Laura, 12
"Yes, I have switched schools two times. I used to live in Connecticut, and we moved to Minnesota when I was in 2nd grade. And I just switched schools last month. It was really hard and I miss my friends SO much!!! I still keep in touch with my friends. They come over to my house sometimes. I love my new school!! I made some new friends, but I still feel pretty lonely. I had to switch at the end of the year, so that's basically why I haven't made any like great friends, except for my new friend Veronica who lives down the street. She's really nice, and I miss my old friends so much, but if you're new at a school, you'll make friends!!! And if you move at the end of a school year, a new year is coming up, and trust me, you'll have great friends by then!!!!"
--Devin, 10
"Oh yeah, millions of times. My dad's in the air force and we have to move a lot. I have been to school in Maine, Illinois, Montana, Germany, Japan, and at the moment I am in school in Kentucky. I have friends everywhere and I can't keep track of all of them. My best friends right now are Chloe and Blair. CHLOE AND BLAIR U ROCK!"
--AnnaRose, 12
"I moved from GA to California and I would write to them. I did make new friends and I went to an elementary school and I'm in that school and it's so cool, but I don't know why we have to do our homework. And well, I know it's hard and I cannot believe that it is words that I know, and I have to do 10 of them. And I also have to do a report on the state I get, and it's hard for me to do that!"
--Carly, 11
"Nope. I am in homeschool and it is really fun to know ur teacher and feel free to ask as many questions as u need cause it is one of ur parents. And I am going to go to a public school this year, which I am looking forward to, to make new friends and make a bf as well so it should be fun while challenging to fit in there!"
--Chantel, 12
"I hate switching schools! My dad and mom wanted to move to a bigger home and I had to leave my best friend (which was the worst thing ever). My parents made me go to a educational school' which I had to take a test to get in. And they make us only do math, science, social, and English no gym or options. We get lots of homework and have to wear ugly green uniforms! I made a few friends but I still want to go home."
--Sophia, 12
"Have you ever thought that you would be treated better in the new school than your old school? But then you feel like someone spread a rumor about you?"
--Deo, 10
"Hi Guys! Ya, I have. I switched from an elementary school to a Charter school, from dressing down to uniforms (I HATE uniforms!!!). I missed my friends so much, but made a new one. We do everything together! We go to concerts and have sleepovers, and go to birthday parties galore! I sure do miss my crush, though! But, I do like being popular! With everything compared together, I like my new school more!!!!:)."
--Tasha, 10
"Yes, I have. I reeeeaaaaalllllly missed my friends, and as hard as we might have tried to stay in each others' lives by writing or talking on the phone, etc, we just drifted apart. I DID make millions of new best friends, and now we're going to move again as soon as I end middle school. From my experience, the first day is always the hardest, and then you just naturally settle in. Just try to talk and be with your friends as much as possible after you move, and even if you DO drift apart in a year or so, you'll still have new ones, and great memories of old ones."
--Katea, 13
"Yeah when I first came to high school, I missed lots of my guy friends. But, weirdly, absolutely NONE of my girlfriends. I'm in 9th grade now and I still miss them, esp the ones that are hot!! I have a bajillion new friends now though, so it doesn't really matter."
--Sarah, 13
"Yes I did. I moved to Texas from Massachusetts a few years ago after my parents died. I left behind my best friends Ned and Alexis. But now I am a quarterback on the football team and I have been going out with this one girl Keara for a year. And my friends are Joe, Aidan, and Bradley."
--Liam
"Yes I have experienced going to a new school. It was horrible at first. It was my first time in a private school. I made new friends, but I still keep in touch with some of my old friends."
--Amy, 12
"Yes, I went to middle school in May 2004 of the 4th Quarter. Yes, I miss my friends because we were making progress. At first we hated each other, then we got along. No, I didn't make new friends because when I went to my new school everybody hated me. Nobody likes me and call me names like retarded, that I'm in Special Education with learning disabilities, that I have special needs. So that's why I hope it doesn't happen in high school for the next 4 years."
--Helen, 13
"Yes, I made new friends, and I missed my old friends. Don't worry. If you are worried, don't worry. I've been to 10 different schools."
--May, 10
"Yes! Ya see I used to live in Kentucky. Over there we had to wear uniforms & stuff, and I got made fun of. I hated that! I missed my friends a lot, but I made even better friends. It's better at my new school than over there."
--Lili, 10
"Yeah it was bad. You see, I went to the worst school in the history of history of FOREVER! I had a great friend Sommer. She was the most popular girl in class but I couldn't take the school- screaming teachers, uniforms. AAAAAAAAA! So I had to leave. That one day my mom drove me there and got me signed up. It was way different. My fave Teacher is Mrs. Stones. She's so nice! I missed Sommer but we stayed in touch, just not that much, and I made three great friends: Chole, Courtney, and Nina. I miss Sommer and my other friends but at least I have friends at my new school!"
--Kate, 9
"I've never gone to a new school. I've been homeschooled all my life. But I think it would probably be pretty scary if I had to go to a public school next year because I wouldn't know many people and people would probably treat me differently because I had been a homeschooler."
--Erin, 13
"Yes, I have experienced going to a new school. I did make new and better friends at my new school. My relationships were stronger and I felt that my old school was out of control compared to my new school. I did not miss my old friends that much, only a little (Don't worry Katie, it will be fine)."
--Me, 12

"Yes, I did go to a new school. I did miss my friends, but, you'll always make new ones. Sometimes, the friends you make could be better, or they could be rude. My advice is go to that new school with a positive attitude, expect the unexpected, and keep on moving on."

"I have been to 4 different elementary schools, and about 7 schools total. I have met many friends, but have only kept in touch with one: my bff from 3rd grade, Sara. Then I moved to NJ, and still wrote to her and stuff. In fourth grade there was one girl, Alex, and she was nice. This other girl was mean, so I moved to another school in late 4th and in 5th, she was there!"
