“Summer camp rocks!”
--Americangirl
“I wasn't having a good time. When we went hiking my partner was home with the flu and so I had to hike with an icky kid who pushed me into the poisonous plants, put a live spider in my bed, and yelled, 'HEY, EVERYBODY, AMBER'S A PIG!' My best friend stood up for me when the icky kid threw rocks at me and the other campers. I wasn't interested in this.”
--Amber, 10

--Mary, 11
“When I went to camp there were boys and girls there. It was a camp for kids whose parents had died and were having trouble finding a foster home. I was the tough kid of the camp and everyone was scared of me. At meals they would dare each other to come and poke me to see if I would snap…”
--Sarah

--Chocoholic, 10
“Yes, I've been to camp - it was science camp and it was in Drumheller and it was a lot of fun. We learned a lot about dinosaurs and other aspects of paleontology. I was really homesick but other then that it was great. I made some really cool friends. Some people think science camp is strictly for dorks but that's so not true! You don't just to science-related activities. You also do swimming, crafts, campfire- it's great...”

“Oh, yes! It was fun! For my best friend, it wasn't. Her hiking partner was home with the flu, and so she had to hike with an icky kid who called her Diapers, made her eat dirt, pulled her shiny blond hair, and then shouted: “HEY! LOOK AT NIKKI!" when my friend did a cartwheel and swam in the lake filled with dirt. I stood up for Nikki.”

“Summer camp was the worst of all. First I had to sleep in a tent with 3 girls: one was my girlfriend Karen, another girl was my sister Laura, and worst of all, my bossy friend Sierra. Then I fell into the lake. It was VERY COLD. I climbed out safely and sloshed back to my group in my underwear. My group pointed at me and shouted, “YOU DON'T HAVE YOUR CLOTHES ON, DIAPERS!" and my sister comforted me...”
--Albert, 10
“Weird how nobody's posting after Kyla. I got my mom not to send me to summer camp this year, because every year, I go with, like, 5 year olds and up, and no offense to any 5 year olds, but the activities are sort of on the young side for me. Plus, then every one close to my age group thinks I’m a freak one they find out about the grade “Skippery". I like to say skippery.”
--JS, 13
"I am in band camp right now for my schools marching band I am in pit it's a lot of fun I have a crush on two boys one is in the drumline and the other is in the pit with me. “I went to summer camp at Camp Bashore with my Boy Scout troop. The first half of the week was so dreary and it was raining 24/7. We even had to build a dam to keep a little river caused by the rain from flooding our campsite. It worked pretty well, actually. Anyway, the second half was very sunny and we finished the week happily.”

“It was the best! My camp does trips for certain divisions. So my division went on two overnights, which were, the Ten Mile River (A hike, but we didn't hike the river itself. But we still hiked about ten miles. ), and the Delaware river (you go in canoes. ). They were really great trips. We went to a ropes course called Ring Homestead, and bowling at Holiday Lanes, about an hour from camp. The worst thing about camp in the Catskills, is that, it’s FREEZING in the morning and at night, and that it rains, A LOT!!!! We only had one weekend out of four when it didn't rain! But everything is a half an hour later, including wake up, so we get up at 8:00 on rain days. Camp was the best experience! I’m saying this as if it were my first year, but it’s my third, and for the first time in all my three years in camp, my two best friends were in my bunk! ”
--Aviva, 13

The W sisters Taylor and Mora came, Shannon C, Beyonca D, Sarah, Margo and Katrina R, The L twins Kirsten and Donna, Coach Jenna C, Megan F, Nickie S, Cassie V, Lou P, Ava G, Merissa and Melissa (Coach Jenna's daughter or Jen Sr. ) It was Soooooooooooooooooooooooo much fun! And there was a Coach Kiera who taught me a cartwheel in July of 1995. I was the oldest of 22 others. The year of 1995 was SO magical. In 1999, I learned a roundoff and a handspring. I broke my wrist a year after(2/12/2000). I learned a backflip/frontflip and a split in 1993. Gymnastics camp ROCKED! Not only is it All Girls, my friends were here. And all 4 coaches!(I didn't mention Chrissy and Dana. ) The coaches were Jenna, Kiera, Chrissy and Dana. Camp ruled! ”

I shared a cabin with 7 other girls, and OH MY...It is REALLY interesting to see how 8 girls, all with different personalities, get along together in a cabin for a whole week. “My Summer camp was so amazing. A guy I liked confessed and we snuck out in the middle of the night. We went to this huge lake that was really beautiful but the only light was the moon dodging over the trees. We sat down and talked. And then he leaned over, and kissed me. My world lighted up. I locked by hand into his and we sneaked back to our cabins by 2:00am! Nobody ever found out! Not even my BFF! ”
--Holly, 12
“Well, I met a guy friend and we stuck to each other like glue. We had lots of fun together, but when the last day came, he left without saying goodbye. Luckily, he knows my phone number so he calls me every night. We're having dinner tomorrow night at a nearby cafe. I haven't seen him in 8 months. He's really adorable and cute. “I went to girls camp...First it was fun and then I hated it. We slept in big tents...8 people to a tent. We were cramped and it was freezing. And it smelled REALLY bad where we were. Everybody was getting sick from the heat and from the food...Which it took you ONE HOUR (no joke) standing in the Arizona heat just to get you food that is going to make you sick! All the camp was a weeds everywhere and every time you stepped locus and grasshoppers would scatter everywhere and crawl all over your shoes. After the third day we just all wanted to go home. We were tired, dirty, smelly, blistered and bruised and hungry. I do not like girls camp and never want to go back.”

I made some new friends too. I learned how to pull myself on the bar, get the high one, do front hip rolls, and back. The food was good and one of my favorite hobbies is rock climbing and I had made myself confident about climbing and I was so happy that I made it to the top. The good news is that I earned my Paddle, Poll, and Roll badge without being a girl scout in my program Kayak Kids. I had so much fun!:).”
--Allison, 13
“I've been at summer camp for the past two days, and I love it! At this camp, we're placed in a band with other kids and we get to play (and eventually record) music! It's serious business, but it's been so much fun! I’m vocals for my band, and although I don't sound too great (6 hours of singing at a time completely wears out your vocal cords!), it's awesome! I've made a few good friends, too. They're all boys, most of them older than me, but that doesn't mean anything in the world of music...They're great musicians! It's actually very surprising how much you can accomplish at summer camp if you put your mind to it. I started out nervous about going, but soon enough I loved it! It's alright to be a little bit afraid of what to expect, but just know that you'll have a good time despite any setbacks.”
--Amelia, 11

“I love summer camp! I go to this academic camp where you can choose four courses you want to do, such as writing and philosophy, both of which I did. I made a bunch of friends. The food is really good. Plus, after dinner, when classes are over, sometimes they show movies, or you can swim in the pool. They did a talent show on the last night. I love it! I only wish it were longer than a week. But I've gone for the equivalent of a month, since I just finished my fourth year there. You can go from ages nine to fourteen, so I only have two more years there. :( But when you're fifteen and sixteen you can be an assistant counselor, and then a counselor after that.”

“It wasn't this year but last year I went to a G. R. E. A. T. (gang resistant education and training)camp and it was really fun. The officer of my school chose several other kids in the same grade to come along. There were police officers who came to talk about stuff like gangs and how to avoid them. Then we'd go to the gym and play games like hockey, dodge ball and other fun games like that. Then we'd go into the police vans and go to places and food and getting there was completely free for the kids who were going. We went to places like the skating rink, bowling, the movies, the reunion tower, on the DART trains and buses, to a real jail, Peter Pipers Pizza, Celebration Station, Hawaiian Falls, A wax museum, and so many other things. It was so much fun because I met new people from different schools. If I could I would go back in time and repeat those 2 weeks!!! G. R. E. A. T. Summer Camp was GREAT(that's a joke) that year!”

“I went 2 camp this year and 3 years straight before that. I met my BESTEST FRIEND IN THE WHOLE WIDEST WORLD at camp 3 years ago. We swam, did archery, challenge course(total hard-core man!) Bible study, campouts(thank goodness it was on Tuesday!)and my favorite: SONGTIME!!!(trust me, if you go 2 CLS, song time ROX UR SOX!)Bugs were awful last year though, and that ruined my experience. I got more than - and I’m not kidding about the number. I've still got scars - 137 chigger, ant, and mosquito bites!!! But CLS is still the best camp I've gone 2 in my life!!!”
--Leilani, 13
“My summer camp experience was soooo much fun!!! The food was great, the counselors were so nice, and I made tons of new friends. The down side, though, was whenever we went out at night, somebody would trash our cabin. So we were cleaning up our room at 10:30 at night! We found a girl’s underwear way on the other side of the room once! And they hung our bras and underwear on the flagpole one morning!!! The worst part: we never found out who did it! :(.”
--Susan, 12
“I went to camp a long time ago it was a camp for disabled kids like me. It was called Texas Lions Camp. It was held in Kerville. It took us 3 hours to drive there. My 1st year my best friend Janesik went and it was a BLAST! But my 2nd year I was really homesick and Janesik did not go. I wanted to go home so badly.”
--Caitlin
“Zee: Does the guy go to your school or something?”

“I am from Ireland, and to us, ‘summer camp’ means going to a sort of activity center and doing sports, arts and other things until about 4pm, when we go home, so It’s quite different from an American summer camp.”
--Paul, 12
“My parents don't let me go to overnight camp, but every year I go to a dance camp that's a day camp.”

“Last year I went to summer camp, it was AWFUL!!! My BFF and I were the only 1's that were 12 years old and the counselors treated us like babies!! So My BFF and I just had to do something to make things fun... We asked if we could have slippery slides, water games, and water fights, and we did. Besides that one day of fun, My BFF and I decided that next year (this year) that we wouldn’t go, and this year we did even more fun things, we went bowling (which was fun 'cause we arrived early and no 1 was there), to a carnival, shopping @ the mall, and we went to LaRonde (an amusement park) and went on the new roller coaster ‘The Goliath’ (which was the scariest ride in that whole amusement park) and some other rides. So I definitely love this summer and hated last summer! LOL.”

“Kyla, you should have pulled the positive points out of your camping experience. If you do that all of the time, life will be a whole lot better for you, and everyone else.”

“Camp is sooo fun! I just got back from camp today and I loved it. My cabin was great and my counselors were sooo sweet to me. Then there were these three guy counselors who were hot. And I mean HOT. They were named Nick, Casey, and Dustin (Dustin was called Tex, because he's from Texas). I loved Tex so much, bcuz he's sooo nice and HOT. My tentmates loved to tease me about him (in a fun way) because I was so obsessed w/ him. We gave him a codename (Tiki) and Casey a codename (Briefcase). Casey had a codename because my friend Destiny liked him. After our closing ceremony at the end of the week, we all went outside and sang songs. When the songs were all done, we went around and gave everyone some goodbye hugs. Not only did Tex hug me, but my friend Leah got a picture of him and me together. Also, I met a friend named Albert and he is from Tokyo, Japan. He was my best guy friend that whole week. My best girl friend was named Chelsea, and she is from West Virginia and I picked up her accent for part of the time. To Albert and Chelsea: thank you for absolutely rocking. You made my week much more enjoyable. To Tex: I LOVE YOU SO MUCH AND I MISS YOU!!!!!!!!!".”

“I've never been to camp (scowls), but I’m writing a story about camp. I just love to read those romance camp stories. Cheesy, I know, but I’m a cheesy person. (Cheddar, to be exact. Bad joke. I know. ).”

“I’m going to this summer camp this summer that I've been going to since I was 10 with my friends Lexi, Harrison and my BGF (and my crush for 4 months) Trey. It was SOO fun last year! We all would sneak out at night to this empty cabin and play Truth or Dare every other night. And the lake was SO nice! It is 3 weeks long and I’m going on the 10th of July. WHY WON’T IT COME ALLREADY!!!!!!”
--Violet, 13

“I go to this summer camp every week for 7 years now. I go this Sunday but like always I’m sure I will have LOTS of fun. You see plenty of cute boys, have fun and I get to learn about me religion (although I don't go for that). This year I’m going to basketball camp and about 5 of my other friends are going too. It’s a recipe for pure fun!”

“Kyla 13: don't listen to those mean little campers. If they call you Diapers, tell your counselor you wet the bed, push you to the lake and make you play Truth or Dare. Don't listen to them. You might get in trouble.”
--Laura, 10
“Camp was so fun! Kyla, we did a game like that but not with chili. Instead we had to tie our hands behind our backs, and use our faces to search through a bowl of melted chocolate to find 1 mini marshmallow. It was one bathtub size bowl and 6 people at a time did it. It took 10 min. Before my BFF found it! SO FUN! Then people came by and pushed us in! Then I came out of the tub COVERED FROM HEAD TO TOE in chocolate and hugged my other friend. Everyone was a mess! It was so fun!”
--Emily, 13
“MATT- this is Kathrine! I never liked you! I liked someone else and I snuck out of the cabin in the night with Alexis. Me and my BF kissed and Alexis and her BF did too. All night. It was sooo romantic. You’re just jealous!”

“Summer camp was awful last year for me, because I started my period and couldn't go swimming. It was soooo embarrassing because even before camp my mom made me bring bras, because she said if I wear spaghetti strap tops, I hang out too much. Puberty is really tough, because nobody my age gets it yet.”

“When I went to sleep away camp, it was great. I got a chance to hang-out with my friends and not do what my parents tell me to do. I even had a boyfriend there. Not my first boyfriend. The third day I was at camp, he came to my dorm, and kissed me. It was great.”

“I went 2 a summer camp at Typhoon Lagoon in Orlando Florida. I do live in Florida. It was so fun. We had surfing contests and we were recording our own songs. They taught us 2 play musical instruments, and so much more. 2 all of u who live in Florida or anywhere else, come 2 Typhoon Lagoon.”

We did a barn dance, went in a mud pit where you become so covered in mud that from far away people wouldn't know what you were, had an awesome talent show, watched High School Musical, did karaoke, had amazing food and stayed up late each night. I was gone for 6 days and 5 nights. I knew a few kids there, but there was only one girl in my cabin I knew. It was a little over an hour away but it wasn't a Girl Scout camp. The food there was so good! We had hot dogs, burgers, grilled cheese, pizza, spaghetti, desserts...I could go on all day! I mean it, I HAD A BLAST!”

“I've gone to horse camp and church camp and it wuz really fun! The 1st time I went, on the last night, everyone was around the campfire and a couple of boyz cabins went to the front of the group and dedicated a song 2 all the girls in my cabin ‘Who make them tingle inside.’ And then they sang the rubber duckie song! It wuz hilarious!”

We spent a night and it was fun because all of my friends were there and we ate, we slept in cabins, and when we got back I didn’t wanna leave because it was fun. But when we left it was a long way home. I really didn’t have any friends but then I did, like at the end of the school year. Their names are Maria, Angie, Brianna, Claudia and Cassandra. They were my best friends. I could talk with them about anything.”

“My summer camp experience was great!!! I went to a Christian camp, but it's not like all we did was pray. We had shaving cream fights, skit nights, and a whole lot of fun. The first night is hard because you miss your parents, but in the end you might even think about moving in to the camp!!!”
--Annmarie, 13
“Yes, I went to summer camp. It was really fun. The food wasn't really great but the counselors were awesome. We went rock-climbing, abseiling, zip lining and loads more! We played games that were really fun. One of the only bad things about camp besides the food was that I got homesick. And it was soooo embarrassing because everyone was staring at me. But I'd been on a trip away from home before so I wasn't really surprised. Overall, camp rocked.”

And my friends cheer that I'm leaving, and I say it's your fault some of my friends are going to cry!!!!!! And then my teacher said she is going to miss me. . . and I'm leaving May 25!!!!!! P. S. I'm Mohammad's brother ."

"Yea, it was soo boring. And it stunk, really it was awful. I went with my best friend, and we found a dead dog, it smelled like...Then the administrators made us played baseball, or 'build' houses on trees. That was the stupidest thing I ever made in summer camp. Because I didn't like it, once I was absent for one whole week. Then the administrators (one was a woman, and the other a man), the woman, made the girls do a choreography, and then we had to dance in front of all the parents and the boys. And there was NO WAY I was gonna dance in front of my crush, so one day before the dance, I fell from my bike, on purpose, well it wasn't actually on purpose, the thing is that I fell, and I hurt my knee really bad, so I couldn't go to that stupid dance. But then I regret not going. But I had good times and bad times. Some of the good times are that I was with my best friend, and I don't know..."
--Agustina
"I hated going. It was cold when we went swimming and I kept falling all over the place. I slept in a corner and there was a giant spider over there and the girl next to me kept snoring. But the music was great 'cuz we did Waves of Mercy. The food was TERRIBLE so I wanted to go home, but we were 2 1/2 hours away from my house so I stayed."

"No, I haven't been to dream camp, but I read a book about a dream camp. It was good. Anyway, I haven't been to camp since I was in the 3rd grade (I think) and now I'm in 6th grade. But when I did go it was with my friend Courtney at her church camp (well not their, but they rented it and it's name is CAMP JERRY). And we had a pool, crafts, games and sports competitions, and it was fun. Camp lasted for 3 days and we had a GREAT TIME. I was worried to go because Courtney was the only person I knew. I was afraid that no one would like me, but when I got there I had a 2 or 3 different cabins full of my friends. I really like summer camp and I'm going again this summer for a WEEK instead of 3 days, and I'm really nervous again."

"Not this year, but when I was like 8 I went to campfire camp and I had so much fun! The older girls told us there was a green goblin in the swimming pool and that there was a dead body in the sleeping bag that was under the cabin. But one day when we came back from heaven (a nice spot in the woods) the sleeping bag was gone. And then the older girls popped out, and then I spotted the sleeping bag in a bush. I made a grab 4 it and a girl that used to go to my daycare grabbed me as I tried to open it and I got a quick lookÖ and there was just a pole and stuffing in it! Even though it wasn't true it made my trip a lot more fun!"
--Chimpgirl, 11

"I went to art camp. It's pretty close to where I live. Anyway, the camp didn't really have a name. There was this REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY cute guy in my watercolor group named Jesse. He sat next to me at the table, and he was always complementing me on my work! On the last day, the camp threw the older kids a big 'leaving camp' dance. The camp kinda liked to do things backwards, so they made the girls ask the guys! One day before the dance, during watercolor group, I managed to scrape up some courage from the corner of my mind, and ask Jesse to the dance. He tried really hard not to smile, and asked the teacher if he could go to the bathroom. When he stepped out of the cabin, I tried to follow him with my eyes. I plainly saw him skulk behind a tree, and have a little silent celebration. When he came back, he took up a pen, and wrote 'Yes' on his palm. During the dance, all of the artists at camp that I question why they even got into the camp were screwing up their faces not to look jealous. They
had dates, but they all seemed to want mine!!!!! It was twenty minutes into the dance, and Jesse asked me to step outside for a minute. (He claimed he was 'sick of dancing'). He took me to a side of the hall with no windows, and gave me looooooooooooooooooooong kiss! I was shaking all over! I barely got to say 'wow' before he kissed me again! We spent half an hour just making out outside the dance hall! We figured that the chaperones would get suspicious, so we went back inside. Before we got on our separate buses to go home, he pulled me to the same spot as last night, and asked me to be his girlfriend. I took up his hand and said, 'Yes!' Now, we are BF and GF! He lives near me! And we go on a lot of dates! He has curly honey-blonde hair, and tannish-fair skin. I LUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUV YOU JESSE! XOXOXOXOXOXO!"

"I went 2 church camp 4 4 nights I threw up in the middle of the night. And we have beds for 2 people, so I threw up all over her. I threw up chicken I ate for dinner that night and it made my stomach hurt. And the next day I threw up in the woods where we were hiking. I didn't even go home. I hated it."
--Susie, 9
"Zee (11): I think you are a little young to 'totally make out.' Sorry to offend you (if I did), but my sister is the same age as you and has never even liked anyone. Also, ppl who are older than you who have not been kissed may feel very jealous. You still seem like a nice girl, though. We could be friends. However, it is true that you can meet someone special at camp. I never have, but that doesn't mean it's not true. Now for my own camp experiences: I have been to FOUR overnight camps in my lifetime. My first one was when I was 8. I went to a Girl Scout camp in Pennsylvania called Camp Indian Run with my friend Isobel. Then when I was 9, I went to a YMCA girls camp in New Jersey called Camp Matollionequay with my friends Beth and Katherine. Then I moved from Philadelphia to Wisconsin, and at ages 10 and 11, I went to another Girl Scout camp called Camp Black Hawk. But I thought there were too many rules and everyone was too uptight, so I switched camps. In the summer of 2005, I went to Phantom Lake YMCA Camp, a.k.a. the funnest camp ever. This year I am going again and my friend Lily is going too. I hope we get in the same cabin this year! Also, another thing I will do that's sort of like camp, but not exactly, is a mission trip. I am going with MSYC (Middle School Youth Connection) at my church to Rockford, Illinois to do community service. We will get to go to Magic Waters (a water park) and Six Flags Great America. My summer camp experiences were, are, and will be FUN!!!!!!!!!!! BTW, I feel so bad for you, Kyla. Come to Phantom Lake, and you will feel better!"
--Bugsy, 13

--HarryPotter, 12
"Wow, Kyla (13), your camp experience really stunk. If you want to go to a better camp, go to Phantom Lake YMCA Camp. It is really fun and everyone there is really nice. Totally off-topic, but what are 10 and 11-year-olds doing 'making out?' Those ages seem a little young."
--Bugsy, 13
"I WANNA GO TO DRAMA SLEEPAWAY CAMP!!!!!"
--HarryPotter, 12
"Summer Camp was the best!!!!! We got to go to water parks, and play sports like basket-ball, soccer, and tee ball. The food was the only bad thing. It tastes like our hot lunch now, which is sick. Some of the food was okay, like the pudding. Me and my best friend got to be in the same room. The day we had to leave everyone was giving each other hugs and saying ëSee you again next year.'"

"My camp was really cool. I made friends really easily. The store there (The Mercantile) has good food, shirts and stuffed toys. Also there was this dude from my class who was there. It was cool because he is really funny. And I whipped his butt at Noodle Jousting. BTW Noodle Jousting is where you stand on a surfboard w/ another person and whack each other with pool noodles. They even had a tournament and my friend Amy was the champion of it."

"In 2005, I went to Girl Scout camp. It was the best thing ever! I could be with other girls I didn't even know! The funniest thing that happened was my friend Kathren took pictures of some of the girls naked! Lucky for them, there was no film in the camera. The fire we built took a super long time to light. But after that, we had s'mores. I went swimming in the lake. I think going to camp was the best thing that ever happened to me! I'm going back this year!"
--Rachel, 9
"I was really scared about going to camp but it was really cool and so much fun. We swam in a lake and went night cycling. And I made a special friend who's like me. She wet her bed too. And I never new any one did that; only me."
--Sadie, 11
"I went to Girl Scout camp, and it was AWESOME!!! I chose a camp where you got to pick different arts and crafts to do. There was also at least one swim session a day, an archery field, and a challenge course! I loved how when I came home, I had all sorts of crafts to remember my trip. Some of the girls were annoying, but when I talked to them, they stopped. I loved the food and campfires as well. I'm also going next summer as well!"
--Miranda, 12
"Yes I did. It was so cool. I met new ppl. and met a really funny guy that every time I say has name and remember the stuff we did I cant stop laughing! He became my best friend (and I think we kissed, not sure!!)."

"I'm going to camp in 2 days. I'm really excited. It's a church camp and I'm going with some friends. My mum said I wasn't allowed to go at first but I kept nagging her everyday for 2 whole months until she said yes, and now I get to go! I really hope I meet a guy."

"My summer camp experience stunk. And I mean stunk. The food was awful. The campers were so mean and bullying. The pushed me in the lake, they put worms and dead bugs in my bed, they called me Diapers all the time, told my counselor I wet the bed, made me eat dirt, and then yelled, ëLOOK EVERYBODY, KYLA'S A PIG!!' They pulled my hair, flew my underwear up the flagpole, and made me play a horrible game of Truth or Dare. My administrators WOULD NOT let me call home, and the older campers hazed us. Actually, that was why everyone hated me. We younger campers were all supposed to wear a pair of underwear on our heads all day, and then eat chili with our hands behind our back. I refused, and kept saying, ëI prefer not to.' They were NOT happy. Neither was I. My camp director was so mad at me. She said I showed no signs of wanting to fit in."

"Oh yeah! Summer camp rocks!! I went & me & my best guy friend, Jake, were hangin' out a lot. One night we were out on a moonlight walk & after awhile we stopped & sat next 2 some trees. We talked for a while, then he gave me a real long kiss! It was sooo awesome! In the whole week after we'd go on walks & totally make out!!! I love Jake sooo much, & now we're dating! All you people should go 2 summer camp & you might meet someone VERY special!"
--Zee, 11
"I went to Summer school this year and it was mad fun. We went fishing, hiking, bike riding and many more. There was this really weird part where Kathrine, a girl who has a crush on me, kept on trying to be alone with me. But it was rather fun even though Kathrine kept on trying to flirt with me. Sigh. But I ended that when Alexis kissed me in front of her! We also had fun swimming in a small lake near a waterfall. I went under the waterfall and it was cool! The cabins were roomy although they smelled weird and I always woke up at 4:30 am because of them!"
--Matt, 13
"I went and I had sooo much fun! I met this REALLY cute guy named Zack. We went to this little restaurant that was on the camp property. We talked and then decided to go on a walk. We were walking, then Zack turned to me and said he really liked me. And I said I liked him too, then he kissed me right there! Now we're dating!"
--Sam, 12
"I didn't go but my sister who is 13 went to cheer camp this year, and she got in a big fistfight with another girl !"
--Kayla, 10
"Well, first of all, I am the one who had written about the Girl Scout camping trips. Those were FUN! Those are the only camps that I ever went to! And if you combined the days and nights I was there, you only get 4 days and 2 nights! No fair that my sister got to go! I also went to a summer camp called Camp Sunrise. It was so fun! It's kinda religious, but they had a super fun lake, and a volleyball court, and this awesome cabin that had a great view of the fishing waters! That is my favorite cabin!"
--HarryPotter, 11
"Yeah, it was pretty fun. What really rocks is that I got to hang with my crush!!! He is sooo awesome. We were out one night, (the camp had a little coffee shop) and we were out kinda late, and when we were going back to the cabins we stopped at a little clearing, where the moon was showing. He turned to me and told me he had a good time with me, and right there he gave me a kiss! The rest of the week was wonderful! Well that's what happened, see ya!"
--Murr, 11

"Summer camp rocks!! I went this year, & it was sooo cool! I met this really cute boy (and I've never really been into boyz). But anyway, me and Jon (that was the boy's name) were on a walk in the woods at the camp, and we got 2 talking. And after a while we came up 2 this creek. We stopped 2 sit on a rock 2 watch the creek and talk some more. And we got 2 really know each other. Later on in the week there was this dance, but neither me nor Jon liked 2 dance, so we went outside and got 2 talking (again!). We were holding hands, then he gave me a nice, long kiss!!! We were out awhile, then it got kinda cold, so we went inside. The next day we went back to the creek 2 hangout awhile. We got in2 a splash fight, and we tumbled in the water on top of each other. We were laughing so hard! And he kissed me right there (again!!!). U know what's really cool, is that all the kids were from the same town (u see, it was a YMCA association that took us all out 2 the camp). Now me and Jon are dating!!!!! He is soooooo nice, and he's kinda a gentleman (you know, the type that were taught 2 be nice 2 girls and all that!). Luv u Jon!!!"

--Carly, 11
"I have never been to camp, but my older sister has >:(. It is so unfair! She got to go to dance camp just because she takes lessons! It's not like I want to go to dance camp (maybe drama camp) but I would like to go to camp really bad!!!!!!!!!!!!"
--HarryPotter, 11
"I've never been to a summer camp before or even been camping because my parents think camping's dangerous. But they're weird, what can I say? I've always wondered what its like."

--Emmersin, 10
"Well I went to church camp. Everyone 4-6 grade only stayed 4 days and 3 nights. I thought it was ok because when I came home I got sick (sort of like a cold). I know why. We had this stupid little shaving cream war thingy. I was so mad. This boy named Eric put shaving cream all over my face. And one time at camp I told my friend I lost one of my bras in her bunk (ëcause I changed up there), and after shower she threw it down to my bunk. She goes ëRosanna I found something,' then she throws it down. I'm like ëKaylyn what, why did you do that?' And ya, horrible, I know. Blah."

--Kiera, 9
"Oh my! Barring the first year I ever went to a camp, they have been some of the worst and best experiences of my life! The first year was wonderful and I made a new friend, the second I went with my BFF, and we had a blast by ourselves. Everyone in our cabin ignored us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And last year was practically horrible because I was by myself the entire time!!! :(."
--Essie, 13
"I went to acting camp this year. We did Peter Pan and I was Wendy! My boyfriend (he wasn't my boyfriend when we did this) was Peter! In the middle of the play, one of the oldest kids accidentally knocked over a set piece. The pieces acted like dominoes and so everything came crashing down! Everybody was quiet and frozen. I closed the curtains and put all of the kids under six including Tinkerbelle. I whispered in Tink's ear and she started singing ëYou are my Sunshine.' We put the set pieces back up and opened the curtains. The rest of the play was perfect!"
--Stargirl, 13
"Ok here it is: the first time I went to camp I was 12. Yes this was my first and only year (at least till next year)! I was at camp and a guy asked if I wanted to go on a date and I already had a boyfriend so I said ëNO, GO AWAY.' But he was making his cousin and friends sing and he asked me out over this other girl who said he was a loser. But she was mad that he asked me out over her, so once I said no again he said ëFine,' then asked the other girl if she would go out with him. She said yes! P.S. have fun at camp! Byez."
--Jessica, 12
"I went to camp Seula (See-oh-la). It is a camp in South Africa. I was so much fun. First I was very nervous, like I was not going to make friends there. When I got there I went to check the list to see how many girls were there. Then I saw my best friend Chelsea was coming, I was so happy! Then I went to my cabin. I met Chante, 2 Ashelys, Jade, Candice, and Morwena. The camp was next to Tugela river. That is the biggest river in South Africa! I luv camp Seula!!!!! I am going back there in December."

So my friend Keley got her video camera and on movie night we showed it. Every kid at camp was laughing at it. So they broke up. PS: they were not meant for each other."

"I went to one, and this is sort of in crushes, but I developed a crush, so it was sad to leave at the end of it. Especially 'cause she seemed to like me too. There was a talent show, and I put my art on a poster and talked about it for my entry. Everyone thought I was a great artist, and one kid even photographed my poster. We wound up becoming buddies. Sooooo, yeah. It was fun. And if any of you people know me, or were at that camp (TTCA summer camp, 2005) then I have to say, cool."
--Israel, 11

"I went to camp this year. One night we had a ësocial' a.k.a. a dance. And me and my best guy friend went outside to get a breath of fresh air. We were sitting on a bench talking and he just kissed me! A counselor came out and saw us kissing. She didn't think too much about it. She waited a minute after we broke apart to call us back inside. After a little while a slow song came on. Brad (that's his name) asked me to dance!!! We started dancing. After a bit he kissed me again! My best girl friend saw me and whispered ëlucky!' I smiled and we kept on dancing. After the social was over he walked me back to the cabin. He gave me a peck on the cheek and ran off to his cabin. I went in and I guess my best girl friend told EVERY girl in our cabin about Brad and me kissing at the dance. All the girls started squealing and dive-bombing me with questions. I told them we first kissed when we went outside for a breath of fresh air. They started squealing again. When the counselor that saw us kissing came in we were still talking. She came in and asked me how it went. I had no idea she knew. I told her and she smiled. It was the best camp experience I've ever had!!! :):):):):):):):) Miss ya Brad!!"

"I went to a marine camp, and it was really funny, because I made a new friend called Lara, and now we're best mates. She's 11 and I'm 13, but it doesn't make much difference, because we are now INSEPARABLE. We text and email each other EVERY day, it's so fun. Marine camp is also a great way to get a lot more mates and boy mates, and boy mates are usually better, because I'm a tomboy and proud of it!! Xx."

"No, I didn't go to a summer camp this year. My grade went to San Francisco for science camp, but I was scared that I would get homesick. I have fun at sleepovers until it's time for bed. I hate being the last one to sleep. I'm lying down in the dark and hearing people breath or snore. I get scared, I feel like I want to go home and sleep in my own bed, without having to worry about breathing or snoring. I always wonder ëWhy was I chosen to be homesick?'"

It had long black hair and was wearing a black sweatshirt! Along side it was a black cat! Freaky! In the morning we started looking for clues. We found latex gloves, handprints, footprints, and broken beer glass. Later in the girls bathroom we found a empty bottle of that cucumber mask stuff. So it was just some prank. Summer camp was the best!!"

"I went to a summer camp for military kids for 6 days. We went on a creek float (where I lost the necklace my dad gave me before he left for Iraq), horseback riding, on a mud-walk, arts n' crafts and a lot of other things. My counselor and the girls in my cabin and I even went puddle jumping in thunder! We went all over camp yelling: ëPuddle Jumping!!!!' Then some of the boys saw us and said: ëThat's not fair! How come we don't get to go puddle jumping?' Then our counselor yelled: ëëCause you have a boring counselor!!!!' ëYeah!' we yelled, then went back to puddle jumping. The best part was staying up late talking to the girls in my group."

"It was my first week away from home. At first I was worried that no one would want to hang out with me, but at the end we were all friends. It was fun, but also competitive, because we were on teams, and each team got points for doing things like having a clean cabin and winning silly competitions like whipped cream wars. Too bad it was only a week."
--Fuzzykitty121, 12
"Well, it was OK, but not great...(Hate IT!)."
--Maya, 10
"Yeah, I went to a summer camp, but it didn't have no overnight stayin' place. My favorite part is arts and crafts. I like it because I got to show the geeks fashion lessons! This is how: at art class, we had a drawing contest for drawin' people (I'm the best) so, I drew a girl with the shortest skirt, fish net tights, cornrow braids, a tight short top, and boots that go up to your knees, and she be lookin' bad. Then the counselor picked mine as the winning picture! Then, the geeks came over and said, ëWhy did yours win?' I said, ëCause I drew FASHIONABLE clothes! You can wear similar clothes by shopping at Rainbow. They have the hottest clothes. Now, who wants their hair braided?!' I got ten girls and five boys. Soon, it was pool time. I did the boys cornrows and the girls different braids. Then, it was time to go home and my mom picked me up. The next day I saw the people with braids in clothes from Rainbow! And never did they come back unfashionable again, thanks to me, Bad-G! (Gabie)."
--Gabie, 10
"Nothing much happened. Just some eavesdropping on 8th graders and knocking people down in the ice rink. But if ya put it all together, it was real, real fun and more fun pushing around a person with my friend and mocking another person with the same friend:) Lol you freaks!"
--Anonymous
"I hated summer camp. The food stunk, and the kids were mean. They put worms, spiders and frogs in my bed, pushed me in the lake and filled my shoes with mud. They also had ëGet The New Campers' night, where all the old campers were mean to the new ones. They filled my underwear with the camp chili! I HATED IT! Don't go!"

"I didn't go this year, but I went with my karate school when I was 8. It was co-ed, but luckily there weren't any perverts. Me and my friend Sarah got a whole cabin to ourselves. Sometimes we'd sneak out and find our friends and look around the woods until the sun started to come up. It was fun, but it was kinda scary at night. We got in trouble with our Sensei (teacher) ëcuz we were out so late. He announced it in front of the whole camp, but thankfully he didn't mention our names. We were giggling enough that people knew it was us, though. We also had a HUGE water balloon fight. One kid climbed a tree and dropped balloons straight down on people's heads."
--Maya, 13
"I always go to camp for 5 days and 4 nights. On Monday morning you come and sign in and on Friday afternoon your parents come and get you. Since it's a church camp, we have church EVERY NIGHT!!! My friend Kelsey hated going to camp there. On Thursday night, parents come and visit. They come around 5:00 PM or so and leave around 9:00 PM. Summer '04 was my homesick summer. I wouldn't stay overnight anywhere except at my friend's house. I had gotten homesick at Girl Scout day camp on the sleepover night and came home, and on Thursday I had my chance to head home early from church camp. We got in the car and went back home to have dinner and I did my crossword book, then went back to camp and played with my friends in the pool after swimming lessons. "I did go to summer camp this year. I went two weeks ago. I loved it. I went to a camp in Parkton, NC. I was about 3-4 hours away from where I live. One tip for campers out there in day camp, school camp, or sleep away camp: bring a blank pillowcase and at the end of the camp have all of your cabin or new friends sign it. I did it this year and I put it in the wash and can now sleep on it without getting Sharpie marks on my face and in my hair. Make sure that some people write notes so the front of the pillowcase is pretty full. It is a good souvenir for you so that you can remember your new friends. Don't forget to get their e-mail and addresses. Good luck with camp. I had bunches of fun even though mine was only a week long."
--Dancer101, 11

"I didn't go to summer camp this year or last year because last year my sister turned into a teenager so my mom said she trusted her to watch me. But I'll tell you what happened when I went at the age of 10. My mom had said that it was the last year of going to summer camp for my sister and me. We went there like 5 weeks and we got to play sports, jump rope, make new friends, and in my sister's case, find boys. Every time the day was over my mom would pick us up sometimes, other times my dad would. My dad would kinda be tired and my mom was expecting, so my she would drop us at a friend's house and come pick us up at 8'o clock."

It makes me feel really confined and like we live in a world where we can only count on friends; however, I respect that some other people still like sleepaway. Do you or anyone else (go to sleepaway camp)?"
--Kasey, 11

"I went to summer camp @ my school. It was so fun! Every Fri. we made s'mores, roasted marshmallows, and made pizza pitas. Everybody probably knows how to make s'mores, so I'll tell how to make pizza pitasÖWHAT YOU NEED: sheet of tinfoil, English muffins, tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, pepperoni (optional). HOW TO MAKE THEM: take your sheet of tinfoil and put 2 English muffin halves on it. Next, sprinkle the mozzarella cheese on one half, and the sauce on the other. If you want, put pepperoni on it. Put the halves together, wrap the tinfoil around it, and throw it in a fire until foil is golden. Take it out with a stick. I hope you like the pizza pitas!"

"When I went to camp I played games like archery, soccer, horseback riding, watched fireworks, and that's pretty much all the things that happened. Oh yeah, and we ate! So it was pretty fun, but there wasn't much to do. When I slept outside in a cabin there were lots of mosquitoes! Me and my cousin Jena, in the middle of the night we went outside and sat on the wet grass! When everyone woke up they were wondering where we were! And then we had pancakes in the morning, they were good! This year my sister Kaitlyn who is 6 years old will be in summer camp with me too! Oh, and the best part: I went swimming for 3 or 4 hrs. It was a coincidence that I signed up for the same camp as a few of my friends. I never get homesick there!!!!!!!!!!"

"I was at camp last year and I didn't like it very much. A few of the girls were cool, but many were snobby and not very nice. Also, 2 girls in my bunkhouse actually got into a huge fight one night, rolling around on the floor, punching, pulling hair, scratching, and all that! I was actually glad to go home at the end."

My friend Kelsey says that camp is ënothing but church, church, church! We never have any funÖ' But it is fun and it isn't ALL church."

I also met so many new people and saw old friends that had moved. It was really fun."

"This was my first time at camp. I was at a church camp (girls only, but with a few exceptions with the leaders' husbands) and I was excited. The first night there was AWFUL! I had to go to the bathroom but I didn't know if there were any snakes or scorpions up where we were that came out at night so I wet the bed. I was cold (we were up in the mountains) and I was homesick and I cried a lot. I think it was in the middle of the night when I finally fell asleep. But the rest was fun. I made new friends and I can't wait until next year."

"I went to something like a summer camp at my Aunt's house. They have 10 children from ages 2-20. I usually play with my cousin Riley who is ten. Eilsh who is twelve does not like me."

"I went to this WAY cool camp for a week called the Talent Development Institute. It was at a college which was empty for the summer (duh!). You can either stay in the dorms or go like a day camp. I went to the day camp (FYI, I wanted to sleep over but it's super-expensive). They have all these programs to do and you sign up for the ones you want, but you can't change daily. You sign up for three or four (depending on how long the program is each day) that you do every day. You can't even go if you're not at least going into fourth grade. My programs were animation (you get to make your own mini-movie about whatever you want), photography (you do one of those two views things), and improvisational acting (my fave by far -- I am so an actress in 10 years!). For acting we got to play acting games. My favorite was The Dating Game. For lunch the college cooks are there and you have a HUGE cafeteria and tons of entrees and desserts and you can have as many servings as you want! You get 1 hour 2 eat, plus you have 2 snack breaks. After your classes you sign up for an after-camp activity (it must be different every day). If you stay over you get to watch movies and swim in their pool afterward! You get breakfast and dinner too if u stay over!) I LUV TDI!!!"

"I went to science camp in the mountains. It was very cool and I'll never forget that week. I went for a week in November. I learned a lot of new things and I met new people. That was the best part. Although it was very hard for me to leave without my parents because I hadn't gotten out of my house for one whole week. I really missed my family but I got used to it. I loved that week at camp."

"I almost drowned in a pool and the camp was robbed, but overall I got to meet new people, especially guys. It was cool!!! P.S. not every camp is perfect!!"

"No I didn't. Instead I went to Sweden for 3 weeks and nothing happened. But 2 years ago I was going to the bathroom in the middle of the night at a camp and a bear was in the bathroom so I turned around and ran! The next day the toilet was clogged for unknown reasons."
--Sara, 12
"Yes. I made new friends, and check this out! Since we were all reading King Arthur, we decided to form a club called the Knights of the Hexagon Table!"
--Lindsay, 12
"No I didn't. I really wanted to go to a camp! I would do anything for it but sadly it's 1000 dollars a month and we couldn't afford it."
--Ashley, 13
"I go to an all girls sleep-away camp. This was my 6th year. This year one of my friends (she's a counselor) and I started a music program at the camp. We got together almost every day to play our instruments."

"I went to an overnight weeklong camp with my sister this summer. It was a pretty cool camp. Every week is a different week and the week that we went was Olympic week. It was a non-stop competition. The whole camp which was about 103 people, was split into 8 teams and they had two counselors on every team. It was a lot of fun. The camp I went to had a decathlon. There was one or two people in each section of it. For example, I was in the Rec Hall trying to score a goal. Other people might have been shooting hoops or doing the crabwalk. Well after all the sections of your team were done, one person from your team ran the whole course. Our team won and we won the Olympics. It was lots of fun. By the way, our team was the Dingoes."
