--Helpme!, 10

"Well today I went to the bathroom and when I saw something on my thing I was scared I told my friends and they all made fun of me I don't know how to tell my parents plz somebody help me."
--Anonymous, 11

"Anonymous: If a girl hasn't had her period for a while after it started that might happen when u first start. But it u started ur period less than a year ago, u could skip a few. Just talk 2 ur mom or doctor."
--Madi : -), 12

"CherryCheese, 10, just ask a question and I will try 2 help the best I can..."
--Madi : -), 12

"Mimi, 11, ok, ppl really, ur not any1 else! Ur u! I got my period when I was 10 and my mom got hers when she was 15! Maybe u will get urs when ur mom did, but u might not! Teachers aren't always right! I speak from EXPERIENCE! So listen 2 ur body, not ur moms, how many years have u had breasts, do u have discharge? just listen 2 urself. Sorry if this sounds mean, but I really want u gurls 2 understand!"
--Madi : -), 12

"Hair is fairly annoying I don't mind the pubic hair I have as it makes me feel older it's more the hair under my arms and legs that others see."
--Jenna, 10

"I haven't got my period yet but I'm waiting for it to happen should I wear a pad just in case." --Anonymous. Try wearing a pad only now and then and keep a pad, undies and pants in your bag just in case. Don't try a tampon till your period is a once a month thing. To tell when your period will steady out figure out when it began. If it began 10-11 years it'll take about 1-2 years to even out, 12-13 is 3-4 years and 13+ is 4 years+."
--D0t123, 11

"The word puberty just makes me laugh. We were doing the plant life cycle the other day and we got 2 fertilization and we couldn't stand. Miss was there going the word sex makes u laugh n then we all laughed. Sum1 came up 2 me and said "Sex" I was in tears so it's no big deal talk about it with sum1 u feel comfortable with. For m it's my Mom and my big sister!"
--Molly, 10

"The feminine issues. I deal with it by talking with some one."
--Melinda, 12

"I just got my period today and I feel good about it! I hardly got any pains and mine is really light. I just told my mom and she got me a pad and told me when to change it. It's pretty easy so far...But I got mine like 3 hours ago."
--Helen, 12

"How long will it take to grow a mustache if your are 9 years old."
--Kain, 9

"What age do girls usually begin needing to use deodorant."
--Anonymous

"Well star one way to get your "End of a sentence" is to not worry bout it if you do it will come later."
--A naruto fan gurl

"I mean like what is some signs your having your 'end of a sentence"."
--A smart gurl

"Maria: I have to disagree. You need to do something about puberty, don't ignore it. And for all you girls who have parents that won't listen, I have a tip. Talk to your school counselor. If u don't have one, talk to an older sister, an older friend, or even a close friend's mother. You'll feel uncomfortable at first, but they'll know what to do..."
--Taylor, 12

"Elias, 12: I know you're a guy, and I'm a girl, but if your, uh thing, starts hurting you need to either talk to a parent or doctor. Hope this helps..."
--Taylor, 12

"Miah: You are SO right, there is nothing you can do about it. You just need to go with the flow for a bit until others catch up to you. Meanwhile, carry around a pad or tampon, for secured safety, of coarse!"
--Taylor, 12

"Cherrycheese, 10: I'm sorry I can't email you. I'm not allowed to email strangers. I CAN however, keep writing to you through IML! : -) I'm really sorry that you can't shave yet, what you need to do is show your mom your legs. If she still disagrees, read THE CARE AND KEEPING OF YOU to learn how to shave. Then you can shave in the bath or shower. That's what I do. But, you SHOULD still have someone telling you that you ARE allowed to shave. Talk to your doctor at your next visit. Maybe they can have a word with your mom..."
--Taylor, 12

"Olivia: Breasts and breast buds probably shouldn't be considered "Sexy." They are a natural part of growing up. There's this girl in my social studies class named Nina, and she pulls her shirt down so guys can see her bra. They find it rather amusing. Once a boy touched her bra without asking, and it was on, and he got in big trouble. He SOOO deserved it, however..."
--Taylor, 12

"What is the sticky discharge in my underwear mean in puberty?"
--Katie, 10

"Hey Rebecca 13: I'm a little over weight as well and my breasts are a little bigger than they should be I am a 34A! And the bra I wear makes my breasts look bigger! AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!"
--Aoife:), 11

"I started a long time ago but I just started getting really hairy...I don't wanna be inappropriate but idk what to do...I'm scared to wear a bikini. My back. Butt. Arms. Legs. And bikini area is really hairy : (idk what to do..."
--UhOhhh

"Syd (12), if your pubic hair is already growing, expect your period to happen soon!"
--C_Angelie_S, 11

"Anonymous, it depends how long, actually. If you started having your period, you will have it at different, unexpected times. Like, one time it's too short between the first time you had your period and the second. Or it's too long. Until you've had your period for a while, you won't really know when to expect your period. Ask your school nurse! P. S. People! Stay in school! P. P. S. LOL."
--C_Angelie_S, 11

"SadCar (12), I know this teacher who says tampons are more comfortable than pads. I guess you have to get used to it, but when you do, it'll feel like it's not there. The V-opening-thingie between your legs (what's it called again? ) has the ability to stretch and go back to normal size, so it's safe to use a tampon because when the tampon absorbs the blood-thing or whatever, it'll be alright. And expect your period after/during? your pubic hair grows and when you have discharge! Ask your school nurse!"
--C_Angelie_S, 11

"We're going to see a movie about puberty at our school and it is torture! The girls watch the girls movie and the boys! But I'm not worried about that I'm worried about the boys watching the girl's movie! It's going to be hard to get through the year Ôcause there probably gonna tease us a lot. The boys don't have to worry that much. It's going to be pure horrible torture next year and the next year!"
--Aurin, 11

"Breasts are too big and my hair is too ugly."
--Renesha, 13

"The worst part is the cramping. Usually it hurts bad. Also, I'm usually in school."
--Michelle, 13

"The toughest part about going through puberty, I'd say, for me, was accepting that it was true. I read all about it, and I denied it, thinking it's not true, because I don't want it to be. And talking about it, I hate it when guys talk about it in front of me. I feel like screaming "Guys get it easy!" and there's so much, just getting into it all in my head, the shaving, the bras, the period, he zit, & everything. When it happened, I would look at little kids, and wish I were them to not have to go through puberty, and be young and carefree again."
--Emily, 12

"How old do you need to be, and how do you know."
--Sierra, 10

"I think we should evolve out of periods. I hate them. It's gross and you cant run/play. Plus ur "Stomach" kills! I don't have pms that bad though. No moodiness."
--Rose, 12

"Does everybody get it."
--Briana, 9

"Every boy I see is hot especially emo guys idk why though ps I'm in the 6th grade I may be 11 but that's ’Äòcause I was ready for school then."
--Paris, 11

"The toughest part I would say is the feelings that I as a girl get about things and how I make people mad at me and I didn't even mean it. And the periods ugh...Don't even get me started on those. DIFFICLUT!"
--Y would I tell u?, 13

"One of my testicles goes down like half an inch farther than the other should I be worried?"
--Jonathan2426, 12

"Everything has happened to me except I haven't got my period yet! I already have to wear a size b cup bra, I shave my legs, I have bad body odor down there and I have had discharge for 5 months! Is something wrong with me?"
--Jessica, 11

"Um this is for a IML person umm do you think we should have a section for boys to talk bout puberty and a section for gurls to talk about puberty?"
--Keonna

Message from IML: Hi Keonna! That's a good question. In the beginning we felt it was healthy for guys and girls to share their experiences together, especially since this is a totally anonymous board. But if everyone would rather have it be separated, then we can do that. If you want to cast a vote for having different boards, email us at itsmylife@pbs.org.

"OMG! This stinks my breasts are hurting way bad!"
--Daycee L, 12

"How come GAL lives have to be sooo hard?! And BOY lives DO NOT?! HU HU HU HU?!"
--Olga, 8

"Hey Vivian I have a guy teacher too. It makes you want to run out of the room ’Äòcause he know it's going and it's hard to ask stuff they should split us up in health on and guy don't need to pick on us. In a few years they'll like you. Hey did you watch ever changing for girls."
--Me, 11

"Rebecca you don't want breasts. I wear a b. It's no fun. if you want ’Äòem for a guy well if that's what they want they're jerks."
--Lil, 11

"Do you get fat at the beginning?"
--Me, 12

"Period."
--Jayme, 12

"The toughest part of going through puberty is when you get your period and you need stuff..."

--Madi : -), 12

"What I do 4 cramps is I get in a warm bath it help relax you. And exercise. And placing a heating pad on your lower abdomen."
--Anonymous, 12

"Thank You Madi : -), 12, Taylor, 12 and D0t123, 11...I really didn't want to think that this would be happening now! 0_0 I'm really scared so could y'all like e-mail me, maybe give me more advice? I can't talk to her about this! So yeah just really! Email me please! (O) _ (O) ~Elizabeth was :) now : ( and I HATE THIS! : D."
--CherryCheese, 10

"My check up is almost here! My doctor is a guy. How can I let him see my vagina and breasts? Last year was no problem ’Äòcause I didn't start puberty yet. I already have pubic hair over there."
--Vivian, 11

"MAN! Last Friday, we watched a movie about puberty--And they showed PARTS, both boys and girls! It's the growth and development movie we had to watch. And I thought it was plain nasty. OK, right now I have discharge and my pubic hair is growing and I'm expecting my period to happen any minute (man, that STINKS! ). I don't wanna wear a bra--It might hurt and people will STARE. LOL, but anyway, I hope puberty ends soon."
--C_Angelie_S, 11

"I have huge breasts. Hey are almost DD's and everyone makes fun of me. Guys always stare at me and say inappropriate things. I like the attention sometimes but other time it makes me feel uncomfortable. I sometimes have to wear 2 bras or a 2nd shirt just to keep them covered."
--Jigu, 13

"I am scared because I haven't got my period yet! I am I have been growing breasts and I have been having a lot of discharge! Does that mean I am close?"
--Syd, 12

"The toughest thing about puberty to me is all the mixed emotions. Some days I'm as happy as ever, the next I'm all depressed. It's a ROLLER COASTER! I also feel really uncomfortable because I feel my chest is too big for me and everything I wear is too little because I'm too chesty. Also irregular periods...Ugh."
--Becca

"Ok I am in menstruation but I have soo many stomach cramps. Can someone help. What should I do?"

"Erection can hurt a lot!"
--Anonymous, 10

--Angela, 12

"I'm getting taller, and I'm discharging, but I'm not getting breasts, and all my friends have them, it's not fair I'm 13 and have no breasts!"
--Anonymous, 13

"I haven't got my period yet but I'm waiting for it to happen should I wear a pad just in case."
--Anonymous

"Hey for all of you that haven't hit puberty or their period just to tell u that they are not such a big problem you just have to know when to change but most likely you would know. And the pads you'll get used to them in about 1-3 months into it. So don't worry about anyways if you are barely 9 or 10 chances are you wont get it yet, rake it from me I got it when I was 12 and I still am but ill be turning 13 soon so all of you girls just chill. Eventually you'll get it. So don't stress out if your barely 9 or 10 just chill. My sis got it when she was 12. So I didn't need to worry about me going through it first. Soo all of you girls just enjoy that you don't have to worry about when you'll get it and when to change. So take care. Luv ya guys!"
--HAPPY: D, 12

"CherryCheese/Girl, 10, if u have breasts u already r in puberty. But ur period. That's different. U might get ur period soon. That's fine. I got mine when I was 10 2!"
--Madi : -), 12

"Lokita, 12, I know it's weird I'm a girl and answering ur question, but I think everybody needs 2 now about the opposite sex. Guys grow it down there on the lags in their arms. Same places as girls."
--Madi : -), 12

"The worst part of puberty is the development on my chest it seems as if people are looking at my chest instead if me I'm only 13 and I'm already a 36C I wish I had normal sized ones but there's nothing I can do about it."
--Miah, 13

"Does it hurt to wear a tampon? When do I get my period?"
--SadCar, 12

"I'm moving on to fourteen pretty soon. Wet dreams I can deal with but it gets so annoying getting erections because it feels like everyone can see it through your pants. I have pubic hair but that's it no armpit leg hair. I start to wonder if my parents know."
--Bob, 13

"U can't do anything sorry to say but everyone go though it even boys! But girls go though a lot. More from GROWING BREASTS to "You no when the big day comes" it's never easy so try to talk to your mom or your dad they will be glad to help. P. S. Girls I've already got my you know what."
--Brandi, 12

"I am flat-chested and every other girl seems to be happy with big breasts. I just entered middle school last semester. I wear glasses, weigh 92 lbs. And am 5' 5"."
--Sara, 11

"I think that the worst part about puberty (other than the period) is the mood swings, one day you love someone the next you HATE them as if they murdered your best friend."
--Kat, 12

"I'm only 11 years old, I started growing my breasts about 2 months ago, and I haven't saw from my private spot yet. What should I do?"
--Alanna, 11

"The toughest part for me is seeing my friends struggle with it. One forgot her tampons at home and asked me for one. And I haven't started what should I do?"
--Morgan, 11

"I hate having breasts. I'm a little over weight, so they are bigger then they should be. It's so embarrassing because some people can see the bra and some VERY rude boys may pull on the back strap. AHHHHHHHHH!"
--Rebecca, 13

"Well I think I have just started puberty because my breasts are popping out a bit. I wore a tight shirt and it was popping out so I wore a tank top under it all my friends have breasts or bra I have neither."
--Candice, 12

"My penis hurts at times and sometimes I feel like I really wanna kiss a girl! I mean I have a girlfriend named Shanyaya and she just doesn't listen."
--Jacob, 13

"This is for girls out there. Okay u know how when you take like health class and the teacher (my teacher is a female) tells u that when u have a period it's close to the age of your mom's. And she had hers when she was 11 1/2 and I'm that age and I'm afraid. So any girls out there that can give advice."
--Mimi, 11

"Let's get one thing straight...EVERYONE HATES PUBERTY! The toughest part is when you have your period it's soo annoying! My brother (Chris) says he doesn't like puberty because (for boys) your voice changes."
--Bridgette, 11

"OKAY SUpergirl- your the pro- (right) well, when I got mine I was freakin' out, but just don't rush it or be ashamed, it happens! It's cool the way God designed our bodies to work so perfectly! Be ready and always prepared, and ask your mom when she first got it so you can estimate when you might start your period and stuff...Oh, and Midol works wonders."
--Chels

"Star 12, u cant do anything. I know it's hard but ur gonna have 2 just wait. Sorry!"
--Madi : -), 12

"Ok, now everyday my...Hurts and my breasts have been really tender and itchy! Should that mean anything? I'm scared am I going into puberty? I have the different emotion thing everyday and the pain, and the itching! Why is this happening does it mean puberty because I think I'm way to young to be going into it! Help!"
--CherryCheese/Girl, 10

"I've been growing and developing for about a year now I sometimes get cramps about when will I get my period."
--Melissa, 12

"Now I don't have breasts but I have a period!"
--Monica, 10

"I am sorta embarrassed because I have bigger breasts then the girls in my class. At least my mom isn't' puberty crazed!"
--Shanna, 11

"I have little padded bras but I'm starting to get discharge! I don't want my period and my mom is weird she doesn't listen to me at all help."
--No name, 10

"I think that I have too much hair under my arms. I'm embarrassed at swim practice when we stretch. However there is this 4th grader who is worse than moi!"
--Shanna, 11

"Take it from somebody who knows...I've had my period for a while now and it's really not that hard to deal with...Breasts will come, and they will hurt, but don't rush them...All in good time. If you get tummy or back cramps just take ibuprofen or Tylenol or somethin'...Not too much...DON'T TRY TO RUSH ANYTHING...It will not help. You girls can shave now, so when you start bleeding, first ask a really good friend who your pretty sure has already had a period. Or your mom...She's gone through the same thingie your going through, and she understands how embarrassing it can be...Soon you'll not be afraid and just say, "Hey I'm on my period, so don't make me run in gym..."Or something like that. My last tip is always to keep a pad in your backpack. And extra shorts/undies. Dude it happens to every girl, trust your friends, and BE HAPPY! Nothin' to worry bout girlfriend!"
--Supergirl

"My Private hurts all of a sudden, and I'm a guy, MALES Help! Erection is also really bad for me."
--Elias, 11

"Puberty is so scary! We talk about this in health class. My health teacher is a GUY! He talks about the girl stuff and it is so embarrassing. The guys in my class learn this 2. N E 1 in this situation?"
--Vivian, 11

"I hate it when GUYS talk about girl stuff and U KNOW WHAT in front of me. I also hate health class on this topic with a GUY TEACHER."
--Vivian, 11

"I started my period like last Christmas it stinks, and if you play sports than it especially stinks because u get like bumps everywhere it's like totally normal but it still feels weird. Oh and some advice when your breasts develop and your wearing a bra with a tight shirt, don't feel uncomfortable guys think u look sexy. At least that's what mine says..."
--Olivia

"Dear Embarrassed, it's ok. I didn't get mine till I was 14, but now I have a normal cycle and a lot of other people don't. Trust me we are lucky we started later than others. Periods are no picnic...:)."
--Silly Sagie

"The toughest part is when you start to get pimples. I deal with it by not caring."

"Ashley: It probably was a panty liner, you put them over your underpants..."
--Taylor, 12

"My period was really embarrassing and I hardly get only about every 7 months is that bad. And my breasts are little and I want big ones like my friends. HELP!"
--Stephanie, 10

"The hardest part of puberty is the popularys. I guess I'm not the most popular in the class. I LOVE Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings so that makes me a fantasy dork. I even write on every paper at school HP and Lord of the rings rock. I don't have the prettiest face and the best hair and half the time I think people (even my friends) don't care about me. I just want to say don't worry about the new things that are happing to you just be yourself and you'll get through it. Anyway...HP + LORD OF THE RINGS ROCK 'n' ROLL!"
--Grace, 11

"Umm...Isn't it obvious? duh! Periods. Gosh, why do girls have it so hard but all guys get is like, voice changes at the most. Guys, give the X chromosomes some respect! We gave birth to u! (well not me, but other women)."
--Rose, 12

"The toughest part is telling your parents you had your period. Because your whole family might find out and it's scary!"
--Fatima, 12

"I hate it."
--Fatima, 12

"I got my period when I was in grade six and it was NOT at school. I thought I felt more mature, and there was nothing to be afraid of when you get your period."
--Alyssa, 13

"To answer Star Age 12: You can't make your period come sooner, you just have to wait till you get it and don't be ashamed if it's in front of friends. Say IT'S NORMAL! You cannot make your breasts grow faster either. Your body has to adjust to puberty. You know when you are getting cramps when you get a pain just below your belly button. Discharge is a white sticky thick type liquid and it comes out before you start to get your period, you get this to make your private moist. DON'T GET GROSED OUT! AND PLEASE BE MATURE! Don't worry about your breast size, they will grow. And when they start to grow you will get your period very soon. It is normal for them to hurt when you bump them, just be careful. You get cramps below your belly button. Doing a head stand against the wall will Not make your period start sooner. As I said before it comes at a certain time when you body starts to develop hair under your arms, private parts arms legs and more, other sighs are your breasts growing bigger, bad attitudes and more. The age range from when you can get your period is when you are either from 10or 9 to about 14 or 15, if you don't get it by the age of 15, no worries just go see a doctor or tell your mother. Your armpits are probably itching because they are growing hair. There you go : ) I hope that helped you star - 12. I am 13 and I already got my period so I know how it feels. Don't worry. Your time will come and I repeat you can't control when you get your period!"
--Alyssa, 13

"I got my period it's annoying but my friend has helped me through it. Also if you keep pads in your bag it's not to bad."
--Colleen, 11

"I think puberty is really hard when you are waiting for it to start properly. As a lot of the time it takes forever, like your nipples are sore for a year and absolutely nothing happens. It is so annoying!"
--Charlie, 11

"The toughest part about puberty? I don't think you can single it out like that. Anyone who has any questions-look in the body part, under puberty, read through that, if ur a girl go under 'For Girls' for guys, go under 'For Boys'. I've got breasts, B. O., & hormone changes. Apparently periods happen last, but there's a lot of worrying about when it's going to happen once you learn about it, like my mom's friend got it on the first day of middle school and there was a lot of blood, and she bled onto the stand, and they were sitting closest to the door and everyone saw it. But if u have one of these, don't worry. People won't make fun of you once they get it, and apparently for boys it's pretty bad too. The hard part is thinking you're the only one. If you look on here, a lot of people have questions. Breasts won't grow sooner, there's no remedy, but apparently bottled water has chemicals that make puberty come sooner, but it also increases risk of cancer; so it's kind of not worth it. For all of you guys out there that are still worried, don't worry..."
--Anonymous

"I think the toughest part is the period. It is so hard to get used to. I dealt with it pretty well though, all I did was keep a calendar, but since it was irregular for the first 5 months, I just carried a pad in my pocket and wore a pantyliner just in case I wasn't ready for it, since it kept coming at different times. I was 11 years old when I got it. I knew I had because all of a sudden in the morning I got up felt a sharp pain in my lower abdomen, went to the bathroom, and OMG THERE IT WAS! THATS MY STORY!"
--Rylie, 12

"Hi I'm Katie! My breasts haven't developed yet but I have underarm and public hair and think I could start my periods anytime now but I don't know how I can ask my mum to buy me some ads in case I start at school but it's not something I can ask my mum ’Äòcos I'm shy! HELP ME!"
--Katie, 10

"My friend is mad at me because I got I before her! Like what is her problem you don't wanna have it!"
--Jess, 11

--Lokita, 12

"I don't like my penis growing it hurts."

--Kessy, 9

"I started my period a few months ago at home. I just saw blood and got a little scared. The weird thing is that I started 2 days after my school talk to the girls about periods. After I told my friends (Vanessa and Cindy) I felt good so now I'm cool about my period!"

--Emily, 9

"Hey Tanika I live with my dad too. And I'm already going through my period. I was on the website and my dad came in. At first I was scared but then my dad started talking about it. Then I didn't feel so bad. My best advice for you is to invite your dad into the room and go on this website, go to puberty and start reading out loud. That should brake the ice. Then ask your dad a few questions like, what was the hardest thing about going though puberty and then go from there."
--Emily, 9

"Toughest part about puberty to me is the rumors. Some kids have started rumors about me starting life and saying things that aren't true. I have advice for people like me. 1st don't show your offended, be confident, oh and don't be mean about it. 2nd if you can't talk to them about it around people try calling them or send them a letter telling them how it made you feel. And 3rd try to look back at it as if something might've been made up, seen, or heard by mistake. But whatever happens I'm wishing you good luck!!!!"
--Abigail, 11

Please help me!"--CherryCheese, 10. Everything is normal! You will get new emotions and the old 1s get stronger during puberty. You've felt emotions before, but now you feel really STRONG emotions. Instead of just disliking something, you HATE it. Instead of liking something, you LOVE it. You were a little jealous before, but now you're SUPER jealous. There have been times when you were sad, but now you feel TOTALLY DEPRESSED. In other words, your emotions have gotten more intense. Talk later about the rest!"

There I discovered the stains, so when I got home, I put a pantyliner on. The second won happened last month. So yah, I have a regular cycle . Lucky for me, I don't have mood swings or cramps. But I do have a question. What do I do if I have a heavier period in my school since we have no nurse or supplies in our office? Our school is so small our student population is 20 kids! That's it from me."

--Hilda, 9

"It does not matter when you use tampons. I started using tampons during my second period. I had trouble the first time using them but I got used to them. I would recommend tampax pearl if you need you can get smaller sizes. If you do lots of sports it's easier and more convenience. For pads I would use always pads. I hope this info helps Leyte..."
--Virginia, 12

"The worst part of it is when you see the blood you might be scared but don't be it's alright every woman goes through it! If you are ok with it tell a grown at school at a sport (a coach)! You want to start with pads and when you get older you switch to tampons! It's ok to take a bath (I was so scared to take one! )."

"So I have these cramps in my stomach. My mom and dad took me to see two different doctors two different months. The first one said "Well, I think that she is just changing inside, getting ready for menstruation" My mom was cool with it, but my dad was kind of embarrassed. The next day my mom bought me pads! She let me try one on (That may sound weird, but I was wondering! ). It felt like wearing a diaper. I didn't mind, though. The next doctor said the same thing. My mom was cool with it, and my dad wasn't as embarrassed. What's worse is when I told my friends, and she got jealous :)/"."

"All my friends at school are like 6 months younger than me and my mom says that those small months apart make a big difference in the puberty ages. So I am coming up to puberty, ( ex:) starting to like boys, growing breasts, etc) and my friends aren't. It is hard but someone has to go through it first. I deal with it by looking up to all the celebs who say in magazines about puberty and how they dealt with it. I hope this helps some other girls like me! :))."

"Okay I got my period, but what gets me is my breast. I get attention I don't want from boys. I feel really bad. But, I thought to myself and just ignore them or if you just can't tell them you feel uncomfortable of them looking at and if they could quit or quicker way "What are you looking at?" And if you still are feeling that way just talk to a female teacher on how you feel or mom if you can reach her quicker."

"What's a discharge?"

"The toughest part about going through puberty is (the period) talking to my mom about it. I know my dad is no help, and my little 5 year-old sister knows nothing about it. And I haven't gotten my period yet and I'm scared of asking my mom about when she got hers. I might get mine tomorrow for all I know!"
--Rhayna, 11

"I really need help. I couldn't sleep last night because I was thinking about this. I volunteer at a stable. Some of the other volunteers were misbehaving. So all of us had to have a meeting with the woman who owns the stable. Before she had said I was the "Sweetest" kid. And I admire her A LOT. And at the meeting she said something about not cussing. And I couldn't help think, I was cussing like crazy on Thursday with my friend. But we weren't cussing around other people so no one found out. But she seemed angry at me. I said nothing the whole meeting and let everyone else talk. I was scared she thinks I did something. I am never going to cuss again in fear someone might hear and I would get in trouble. I LUV the woman who owns the barn and I want her to like me. I admire her so much. But she seemed angry at the meeting. Is she just angry at me? Or that she didn't know this was going on in her barn? What should I do? I have no clue when the next time I will her her is! HELP! I was crying in bed earlier. I don't want to disappoint her! Is this just the emotions that come with puberty and it is really no big deal or what?"

"Everyone else in my grade has started their period. I haven't so I guess the mood swings are the hardest for me. It is sometimes very hard for me to get through some of the hard stressful emotions that I feel. In my school I feel a lot of pure pressure too. I fell very left out. I know what to expect and I find myself every time going to the bathroom praying oh god plz give me my period! I'm pathetic! I'm scared and I don't like to talk about my feelings because every time I do some one laughs. I wish I had a true friend who understood."

"Being way behind in developing."

"I deal with puberty by talking about with my best friends. And I feel comfortable doing that because we all go through the same problems in life and even though we all are at different stages in puberty that gives us a chance to share what each of us might go through and what not. Puberty is kind of a hard thing to deal with, especially with girls but it is a part of life that every girl and woman go through. So we might as well try to get used to it now."
--Annisa, 12

"The toughest part about going through puberty (my period), is the pain and the worry. I talk with my mom about it, and she tells me what to expect. Then I just don't worry about it, because it's really not a big deal!"

--Leyte, 12

"Well the toughest part is that when your puberty is started when you don't know when it is coming on. You might be in class and all of a sudden you see a red spot on your pants, and it's not a marker dot than you start to see a whole lot of it."

"Hayley, 12 and me. Lets not get in a fight over this. EVERYGIRL IS DIFFRENT. There really is not range. EVERY ONE IS DIFFRENT. So some get it when they r 8 and some when they r 16. Ist okay. Most commonly girls get it between 9 and 15. Some girls do get it later or early thought! LUV YA!"

"I have been discharging for a year now when will I get my period!"
--Sami, 12

"Well for me the toughest part of puberty is when a girl has her period during school and then you'll have to go to your teacher and say it but if your teacher is a boy ( and boys don't have periods) tell them you need to call your mom and if they ask why say it's important or that it's a girl thing and if you have a girl teacher and you feel comfortable with them then you can tell them or if you don't you can go to a girl teacher that you do trust. Or when you start and you where at home for it start brining pads to school."
--Alicia, 10

"Rachel, 13: I want to cry. All my friends have their periods and they think I'm weird. My mom thinks I should've had it by now I'm really scared. Please help." Trust me. You will be fine. My mom got hers when she was thirteen, and her friends and 14 and 15. As long as you have a few changes by now, you'll be fine. I know I'm younger then you but trust me please!"

"The toughest part of going through Puberty for me is I think getting my period. I already have medium sized breasts and pubic hair. But I don't have it yet and I'm real worried and anxious about when I will get it. What If I'm in school. Oh, I'm so Afraid. Also I'm afraid to talk to my mother about this kind of thing."

"I get erections and wet dreams all the time no big deal. I don't have that much body hair only my privates. My penis has grown about an inch. I have also become more muscular. "Siria, 13: Thanks! I should be getting my period soon and I think it is really helpful just 2 have an idea of what she might say instead of being totally clueless! Thanks again. Liz, 12: Okay Liz. From what u say I would go ahead and keep some pads handy for when u do start. I would say u are nearing in on it and it might only be a few months away. Hope this Helps! Advicegirl: hey advice girl I know what u mean. I'll be helping if I can! Morgan, 12: No. This isn't true. But I would suggest not wrestle with him anymore. It might make ur breasts sensitive, I mean they r already sensitive and it could hurt! Ashley 10: I totally know what u mean! Here are some ideas. Do u have an old tee shirt that is white and too tight? U could wear that as a bra until u find the courage 2 ask her. Here is another idea. Ask her "Hey mom? R we going shopping soon 'cuz I think I might wanna get a bra." Whatever u do, be brave! Puberty is a hard time in everybody's life. Angela: That sounds like a tough situation. I would talk 2 ur mom about it. Honestly, us girls on the internet cant help u much. U should talk 2 ur mom. Aoife: it really just depends on ur school! It is there chose. I believe most do it in 5th grade. But some also do it in 6th. Sarah, 13: I agree Sarah. U should talk 2 ur mom Hannah."
--Madi : -), 12

"I think it's the toughest to deal with break-outs and heavy periods. When you have breakouts you have to wait a while before they go away, they make you feel like you have to hide your face from the world. Heavy periods mess up your pants and give you massive cramps. You might feel moody and not want to be around people..."
--Emily, 12

"It's scary to think the pad may not work and the would will know. But plenty of girls know what's going on!"
--Diane, 11

"I have a great trick if you stain your underwear. If you use black underwear the stain will not show! Or with white underwear hydrogen peroxide (the stuff that bubbles you put on cuts) will wash it away! I use it ALL the time. It works wonders!"
--Diane, 11

"I think the toughest part is your period. When I started mine, I went to the bathroom and saw blood on the toilet! But it will be okay. Luckily I don't have cramps but I do have mood swings. But how I deal with it is choose if u want pads or tampons. Tip: if you're going swimming, wear tampons!"
--Kelli, 13

"The toughest part of going through puberty is wearing a bra. I just go with the flow and don't worry about it. I am also going to have my period soon because I am always getting cramps. Can you give me some tips?"
--Anonymous, 12

"I hate being a girl! Guys r so free! No boobs no period! Just the voice change thing and hair! And boys don't have any drama!"
--Millicent, 11

"The hardest thing about going through puberty is when your breast start to grow and it hurts really bad when someone like bumps them or something. But how I handle it is I where a padded bra like on a gym day so if someone bumps them it doesn't hurt as bad."
--Briana, 10

"I just got my period, so I don't think it's a good idea use tampons yet, so I use pads. You might be able to tell by my user name, but I am addicted to soccer. I can't use pads while I'm playing, and I would die if I missed a game."
--Soccer Addict, 12

"I am a total athlete/tomboy, so most boys think that I won't go through puberty. So, when I started developing, one boy asked me: "Why I stuffed my bra?" I told him: "I'm a normal girl, you idiot." He said: "But your a tomboy."."
--Soccer Addict, 12

"The toughest part would be for us girls because we get more changes in our lifetime than boys. We go through a lot that would make us worry. To be honest, I haven't gone through many changes but just a few."
--M&M, 12

"Lol, I haven't got my period either, but I suddenly became grumpy and Emily, 10, I'm getting lots of cramps too!"
--Yessica, 11

"I'm so happy because my school is an all girls school and I can talk about puberty in class to my buds but we still use code names like 'have you started ur red blood project' and my teacher doesn't even know what we are talking about and there is no boys listening in on our conversations!"

"Hey advicegirl I used to discharge normally (white) but now it's all different types of colours (light green, yellow etc. ) what is wrong with me? PLEASE HELP ME!"

"To Kyky: Just tell ur mom that u are getting teased in school because u don't wear a bra! This may not be exactly true but she might consider getting u a bra then : -) hope this could help! If u need any more advice ask me!"
--Aoife: -), 11

"Me: omg really? I don't know that. I read in a book that is was 9-15. And then I read some girls can get it as early as 8! Sorry ppl! Mistake! Forgive me!"
--Madi : -), 12

"The toughest part is that it seems that it's only happening to you and no one else!"
--Richard, 11

"Dear Me: No offence, but Madi, 12 was just saying what was normal. In most of the books about puberty I read, it says girls get their period between 8-15. Plus, it highly rare that a girl gets her period after 16. My moms friend had to get surgery to get her ova REMOVED when she was 16 because they were cancerous. Perhaps Madi, 12 hadn't ever heard of a girl getting her period after sixteen, because in most books it says between 8-15. And in class they teach you what they read in the books."."
--Hayley, 12

"I haven't hit my period yet but my mom told me not to panic. This is just part of life a girl has to go through. I know it stinks. You don't have to tell your friends when you hit your period do what you want to."
--It's me, 11

"K. To ppl who say it doesn't hurt to have ur period, it might not hurt u but some girls get cramps. I have been there done that. So it might hurt. But it doesn't hurt all girls. Just wanted to clear this up! Thanks! Luv ya!"
--Madi : -), 12

"I have a really bad odor."
--Chanin, 9

"I've noticed a lot of people saying, when will my period come, when will I grow a chest? and other things, enjoy life while you don't have to worry about if your skirt is stained or if your straps are showing, you will get everything when it is time."
--Polarbearluvr, 13

"K: I now this must be hard for u. And why except the boy problem? I think we make a great team! We r always giving advice to the same ppl! And our advice is the same lol! K. So here is what I would do, u know I cant make ur breasts grow, so here's what I think: Ignore those other girls who make fun of u and stick with ur friends. If some1 calls u a nerd say "Well yeah! I KNOW ur a nerd! Every1 does!" Then walk off. And hmm maybe this when they tell u that u don't have any breasts say "Well that's ’Äòcuz I'm not fat like u!" I have been thinking all night about what u could say. And the boys. Don't worry. U'll get breast sometimes. Don't even worry about these boys. They are all 2 young! I don't like a guy until he is a least 13! ’ÄòCUZ OTHER WISE THEY JUST LOOK LIKE LITTLE KIDS! Hope this helps! Now, a note 2 ALL girls with periods. Please just tell me what u told ur mom when u got ur period and what she did in response. PLEASE! I NEED some more help. I have gotten the pep talk now I kind of need 2 know what 2 expect!"
--Madi : -), 12

"Madi : -), 12: Here's ur answer: My mom just Xplained everything 2 me when I told her. It wasn't that bad at all. And she didn't tell any of the guys in my family. If u think ur mom will tell ur dad or whoever about this, mayB the best thing 2 do is tell her how u feel about that. Ur mom will understand Bcuz she used to be ur age, 2. Hope this helps..."
--Shoot4themoon, 13

"Aoife: -), 11: Thanks but my mom won't let me get 1! She says I have to wait till my breast start to show more!"

"I started my period at a VERY young age, I was only 9, well I had my spotting then but I really started at 10. But I have been bearing this for 2 years and sometimes it is really hard to cope because my period is normally very heavy. I can't believe I am going to have to bear with this for a whole lifetime, I think. Thnx. Luv Nikki."
--Nikki, 12

"Well, I have been wearing a training bra for a while now and I am waiting for my period. Lucky for me, my mom is the kind of person to talk to about this stuff. By the way, do not worry. Don't be afraid to tell your mom. All girls have to go through it. Also, don't be ashamed to wear a bra. All girls will eventually wear one. It doesn't matter if it is visible through your shirt. Try your best and! GOOD LUCK!"
--Jessica, 11

"I haven't had my period yet, but I do wear bras. :) There's this girl in my math class her chest, fuller than mine. I want mine fuller to, but what I have learned is that if you're fuller earlier then bigger later, much later. But if you wait then you'll be proud that you did. You won't have to worry about your breast are to big because that's so uncomfortable."

"Hi Madi well I got my period 2 years ago and it was weird for me to tell my mom bcuz she didn't get hers until she was 14, but she was happy and said "You're growing up, that's good. Now we have something else in common! Do you have any questions?" She also said that periods could be a pain but she had learned a lot of "Secrets" on how to deal over the years so she would try to help me when I needed it. Sometimes we go out for "PMS Ice Cream" which is totally funny! Good luck with telling your mom, I'm sure she'll be glad."
--Siria, 13

"I am in 5th class does anyone know if I will get the talk this year or in 6th class? HELP."
--Aoife: -), 11

"Um, excuse me but, this question is kinda weird but I hate having weird talks with my dad!"
--Rain, 10

"I want to know when I'm going to start my period. It's driving me crazy. I look online everyday to try to find out but I never can find anything. I'm 12 got 32a bra size armpit hair for about a year discharge for about a year and a half pubic hair for a year. I also have mood swings and cramps and cravings. My mom started when she was 13 both my sisters at 11 and 12. I want it to come like know. Advicegirl please help me."
--Liz, 12

"My breasts are growing! : (."
--Mesha, 11

"Hannah- that is terrible. Have you ever tried telling your mom that story? I know how painful it is, but I feel so sorry for you. I hope you can find a way to work it out :)."
--Sarah, 13

"DOt-123: Don't worry what u should do is wear a training bra that is the smallest size u can get! If that is too tight then ask a female shop assistant to help and soon ur breasts will look fuller!"
--Aoife: -), 11

"Hey embarrassed-to-say: Coming up to ur period you will get cranky! When u wake up in the morning ur nipples may feel sore! And u may get cramps! I think u might know the rest but always keep a pad in ur bag or locker!"
--Aoife: -), 11

"There's SO much stuff that comes with it! Getting a bra, getting your period, (And feeling weird with a pad on. ) Mood swings, And A LOT more! The best way I deal with it is to take a hot bath."
--Mo

"You all should stop worrying about your breast size it will come soon enough. So enjoy life as a youthful happy person! I love you all!"
--Gabby

"Madi, 12: You shouldn't say you will get your period between 9 and 15. Not everyone gets it between then. Some people can get it as late as 17."
--Me

"Hey ya'll. I'm the girl who didn't tell her mom about her period. Well, if ya'all could just tell me what ur moms did when you told them I think I would feel a little better. I'm not asking for much."
--Madi : -), 12

"The toughest part of going through puberty for me is having to have my period because it gets annoying when I have to go out of my classroom to go to the bathroom and change my pad. One of the good things about puberty is the size of your breasts because that way you can wear sleeveless dresses. I deal with it by just going to the bathroom and changing my pad anyway even though I think it is annoying."
--Willow, 13

"Yo to everyone out there who said they are "Scared" of having their period, IT IS NO BIG DEAL! IT DOES NOT HURT @ ALL, OK? it's just a totally natural occurrence that has been happening to women since they first existed, and you can't change that, it'll happen sooner or later. Don't be afraid of it, that'll only make it worse for you. Get as much information as you need to feel comfortable with the concept. GO CAVALIERS! Love Labron."
--Cavalier_fan1392, 13

"I sometimes feel left out because ALL of my friends are wearing bras and I am not. It makes me sad because they all have been asked out or looked at by cute boys. I think because I am flat chested I have not been asked out."
--Katelin, 11

"Probably the first time I got my period, I was scared to death. And also that a lot of kids in my grade haven't gone through it yet, so I feel all alone and stuff. ;-)."
--Claire, 11

"Everything about puberty is hard. Mood swings, driven insane by the new feelings that come along. I feel like I am the only one in my grade that just happens to be going through the emotional part. Other girls, if you can't find how to confess your crush to the guy, turn to your parents. On my part I have to say do NOT take it fast! Say hi, become friends, THEN confess your crush. When it comes to periods, whether you use tampons or pads is totally on you; I suggest starting with pads. This all is normal, so all you need to do is take care of yourself, trust your close friends, and keep your cool."
--Sonja, 12

"The toughest part of going through puberty is depression. But don't be depressed about it!"
--Marketa, 13

"Well I've got pubic hair."
--Sadio, 11

"Emily, 10: It's Normal. Check out the puberty page, there is stuff all about it!"
--D0t123, 11

"The toughest part of going through puberty is first periods ('cause it hurts a woman's stomach) then it's pimples ('cause they r soo embarrassing ) then I can't even tell u it's breasts lol yea I know all about dis."
--Taylor, 11

"I haven't gotten my period yet, but that nasty white stuff has been in my underwear for a long time! I just want my period already so that it wont happen in an embarrassing place!"
--Janelle, 12

"Ummmm......Well I haven't started my period yet but I know it's soon but I have this stuff that's yellowish white I think it's called discharge or something and it's so uncomfortable I HATE IT!"
--Amber, 11

"Wow well I haven't really started yet except for my chest. I'm kinda scared about talking about things like that with my parents. Next Wednesday we are having a talk about puberty with the teachers in the school! Do you think that every single kid needs to hear about the yucky periods and things that are going on in their bodies. And thank you for the information on puberty I feel a lot stronger now about growing up."
--Montana, 09

"Well I think the toughest part about going through my period is the pain in the lower part of my stomach. It hurts very badly but I deal with it by trying not to think about it and closing my eyes and trying to relax. I usually spend most of my time during my period in my room, it helps to be alone without a little sibling asking you what's wrong. At least for me it is."
--Valerie, 12

"OMG! SHE IS WAY OVERPROTECTIVE!" --Madi : -), 12. Talk to another trusted adult (that's a girl) for help and when you do get it and you don't want your mom to know till later use tp (toilet paper) as a pad. Talk to a trusted adult like I said. Now do u have any advice for me? my PROBLEM IS I don't have my breasts yet and every1 except my friend calls me a nerd and stuff! And lately boys r acting weird around me like girls with breasts. It's hard. Help! YOU HAVE MORE EXPERIENCE I have knowledge of what goes on. Except the boy problem I mentioned. We could make a good team."
--D0t123, 11

"Jamie, 13. You can start anywhere between the age of 9-16! And a period is nothing to brag about! When you get it, it's the Pits! I recommend the book "Girlology". And if You start under the age of 11, It's 1-2 years till an expectable period, Start at 11-12 Up to 2-3 years, Start over 12, up to 4-5 years!"
--D0t123, 11

"Hi I've not got my periods yet and but I've been getting white stains in my knickers for about 8months when will my periods start."
--Natalie, 10

"I have a pad at home and I think am bleeding right now but I got used to it because the first time I got my p is when I was 9 years old."
--Michelle, 10

"I'm afraid I will get my period when I'm 12! My nana got hers when she was 16, my mom 15, my sis 14, my other sis 13 so I'm probably get my period next year but don't worry if u get yours late people just grow in different ways! Good luck!"
--Colleen, 11

"I got small breasts + pubic hair. I got discharge but no periods. Where are they!"
--Sarah, 12

"I am 12 I'm a boy my penis is normally 2 inches longer than when I was eleven it was only that big when I had an erection this makes me freaked out because I have hair above my friend in my pants and on it. I'm excited and nervous!"
--Logan, 12

"The toughest part about puberty is that all these things that are happening don't seem normal and you feel different from everybody but the truth is...It is happening to everyone around your age. It's kinda a cool thing because when it's over you feel like an adult. [=."
--Kellie [=

"I wish my breasts would grow faster can some one tell what me to do all my friends tell me to stuff but I don't want to like ewwwwwwwwwww."
--Keisha, 13

"I'm 11 years old and I have puberty. My friends don't have puberty and my breasts are way bigger then my friends and I have period and they don't. I have hair between my legs and I feel like I'm growing way to fast. I have the biggest breasts in my grade, which is 5th grade. The boys sometimes stare at my chest and they sometimes say to other boys like "Hey don't look at her chest" and it feels kind of weird. My bra cup size is like 36 and it feels weird because no one else has it. Why am I growing way faster then everyone in my grade?"
--Jennifer, 11

"I'm really scared to tell my mom because I'm afraid she'll tell my brothers or other family members. I really don't want them to know. My mom has asked me several times if she could she me (naked) all I say is no, my breasts started to grow last year and they hurt. There was this guy who bumped to me and I almost screamed (gladly I didn't). So, should I tell my mom? I'm really scared! Please help me! By the way, I wear a 30a or a 32aa bra. I haven't had my period yet, I hope not yet soon! I really don't know how to tell my mom. When she was a little girl--One day at school, she saw blood coming out of you know where. We'll, she didn't know what was happening. So she decided to ask her mom and her mom told her about the whole period thing. She was all freaked out. I bet I will too even though I kind of know about it. I don't know if I should wear a tampon yet. I've grown some hair you know where. It's been getting longer (scary). I haven't told my mom a thing about this..."
--Can't tell you, 12

"My mom keeps telling me about puberty. Now I'm all freaked out "When am I going to wear a bra? And tampons? And the rest of my friends have bras. When am I going to get mine? I've been developing for over a few years now! I'm so embarrassed not fitting in..."
--Alanna, 10

"Hey guys, relax! It's no big deal! It's normal. I betcha it won't be NEARLY this stressful in maybe at the most 2-3 years? Chill-ax! (Okay, maybe I was lying a little, you period and all this stuff IS a big deal, but you should chill-ax about it! )."
--Elizabeth, 11

"You can share what it feels like for you, but don't say it'll hurt for everyone or it won't! Different girls develop at different times, I know what it feels like for me but I'm a little uncomfortable sharing."
--Alana, 11

"The penis getting longer."
--Tom, 11

"Embarrassed to say, 11. I think I understand. Myself I hate my period but I understand how you might want it if all your friends have it. Once you start to get discharge and mood swings you are about 6 months away. At least that is what I was told. Hope this helps! Bye!"
--Madi : -), 12

"Well it will be tuff at first but you get used to it."
--Faith, 10

"Embarrassed to say, 11. You can start any where between 8 and 16! And remember, every1 starts at different times! Don't freak! And a period gets u in the dumps! Cramps, bloating, emotions.! It's terrible! Be thankful u don't have the curse* *a.k.a. a period."
--D0t123, 11

"To Cassie: You never know exactly when you will your period. On the weeks before you get your period, you may feel crampy or maybe even puffy. You may get your period in a little while, or maybe you'll get it in a few years. No one knows exactly! P. S to all you other girls, ask me for advice. I may be younger or older than you, but I sure know a heck of a lot about this stuff! Right your comment addressed to Advicegirl."
--Advicegirl

"Puberty is ok it happens to everyone don't be scared of it..."
--Alice

"To Angelica: If you haven't found out yet, you basically go on a ride of emotions, some good and some bad. Also, you may feel crampy or puffy. When these happen, try to eat healthy, (always eat healthy! ) take a walk or maybe write in a journal. Also, you may want to put some warmth over the places where you have cramps, which will probably be in your stomach or your back. Maybe get into a warm bathtub or put a hot/warm water bottle over your stomach. These may help. Hope it does!"
--Advice girl

"Sorry everybody, just want to let you know I can't respond to EVERY question, but I'll do my best to respond to some!"
--Advicegirl

"Pimples and breasts! So embarrassing!"
--Anonymous

"I hate having friends who are girls, because they, like, accidentally say bra strap or some thing and then there's this big, awkward silence. I just try to ignore it. Also, I hate having The Talk with my mom because she knows absolutely NOTHING about what I go through."
--Nick, 13

"I got my period about 3 months ago...It stinks your hungry cranky and you feel like your going to hit someone."
--Kristin, 11

"Comment to "Embarrassed to say", don't ya worry, I got my period in January, and I'm 13! And by the way, be happy you don't have it, It's really bothers you and it's uncomfortable, and you are talking to someone that was exactly like you in your age!"
--Marketa, 13

"Embarrassed to say, 11: Don't sweat it, everyone's different, so ur body will start menstruation when it's ready. I didn't get mine till I was 12. The norm is anywhere from 8-12. U can also talk 2 ur mom about it. If she was started puberty later than most ppl, chances r u might, 2. Hope this helps!"
--Natalie, 13

"My parents won't let me get a bra, and in PE the strain on my breasts is so bad I once cried because it hurt so much! You know what the teacher did, she offered me an ICE PACK! I'm just like "An ICE PACK for my breasts?!" "I don't think so!" And it was REALLY embarrassing. The teacher told me to talk to my Mom about getting a bra. MOST EMBARASSING DAY EVER! (except for when I accidentally peed on the teacher in Pre-school)!"
--Hannah

"I just went through a major growth spurt. I am only 9 and my breasts are growing! Now my sisters want to pinch them, and it HURTS! How can I get them to stop doing it, or it to stop hurting?!"
--Morgan, 9

"It's my fifth time getting my period and it really stinks. People out there that are afraid, don't be scared. It doesn't hurt. Just act normal and get on w/ your life. :)."
--Adaline, 12

"JJ, 11. Not a tampon for sure. But I got my period when I was ten. My Mom didn't get hers until she was 15. Just listen to your body and look for signs. You probably wont get your at the very same time as you mom. But if you start to have discharge. Maybe a month or 2 after that you could start wearing one."
--Madi : -), 12

"Jamie, 13. OMG! You are only 13! My Mom didn't get hers until she was 15! Everyone gets it at different times. Your friends are only bragging 'cuz they probably HATE periods and are trying to turn it into something good. Be happy for them. They are trying to make the best out of the situation. You will get yours in time. 1 or 2 years after your breast start developing."
--Madi : -), 12

"AMY, 11. You are at the perfect age for breasts. Lots of girls have them at 11. I do. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH YOU!"
--Madi : -), 12

"Nia, 10. So we can feed babies!"
--Madi : -), 12

"Thanks a bunch Amber. I just have a few more questions. 1) Should I be 100% honest when I tell my Mom? 2) It is really hard because she got her period when she was 15! And I am 11 (I am 12 in May but I like to call myself 12 because I hate it when people go "WOW! You are 12!". 3) I think I will have to grow up right away. 4) I AM WORRIED WHAT SHE WILL THINK! Will someone help me?!?!?!?! PLEASE!?!?!?" --Madi : -), 12 COME ON PEOPLE! I NEED HELP!"--Madi : -), 12. It's no big deal! When you talk to your mom she'll understand! Every girl has 1 but not at the same time, week year, etc! Be 100% honest. She'll understand you are growing up and should let you do it on your own. Unless she's overprotective. Like I'm getting my period soon but my breasts are NOT here yet! Weird, huh? like I said we all grow at different rates! Hope this helps! =p!" --D0t123, 11 OMG! SHE IS WAY OVERPROTETTIVE!"
--Madi : -), 12

"Well I've got pubic hair and armpit hair, everyone in my class has got an Adam's apple but I don't and their voice has gone low and they make fun of me."
--Paul, 12

"ALL BOYS READ THIS, because I'm clever and I know. I have only 2 and a half stages left in puberty and that's armpit hair, facial hair and I'm starting voice change. Talk to a friend that clearly has puberty or you know he does (make sure he is a friend) it works with me. All boys have a desire for voice change (you might not think it but you do) Know If you get a lump near the top of your neck it means you have something called an Adam's apple and your voice will deepen as it gets bigger. You have to avoid the talk until puberty is very clearly in you, you will see what I mean as you progress. Lay off the people who get periods and breasts, remember they probably started before you and they are going through a hard time too you know. Remember don't look backwards look forwards."
--Alex, 12

"The hardest part I would say is the hair and the period because first of all when you have hair people make fun of you and second of all when you have your period you have seriously hurting cramps in your stomach. They way I deal with it is say I'm going through a stage called puberty. And for my period I would take a Midol to make my stomach feel better and it works!"
--Markia, 10

"Yer hey everyone ill just like to tell u guys I started my period when I was 13 and trust me it's horrible. When the blood dries on the pad it stinks n ewwww...The whole lot of it is gross. Anyway don't want to scare u lot who haven't started yet, you'll get used to it :)."
--X-teen-x

"I got mines at my aunt house I was kind of scared to tell someone but I told my auntie I had a girls problem and she understood. She called my mom to tell her and she was happy that I had my period I was so confused how the way she reacted to the talk with her she said it's ok it all about being a girl. To all the girls who think it's a bad thing, it isn't. It's all about being a girl, taking care of your self, and showing that you are growing up so don't stress over it. It's ok. Just make sure you change ever time and don't let it over flow."
--Tinkerbell-girl

"Hello I am 10 and I just talked to my mom and she said that I am getting my period it is a little weird but if you think your getting it tell your mom they will know if you are and do not scared it happens to every one it is ok."

"If I feel the need to use the bathroom and I hold the urine from flowing will it affect my period?"
--Kayla, 10

"It's tough. Puberty makes you so different. You wake up one morning and feel like a stranger to yourself! It's hard to focus, too. At some points it feels like a burden not to yell like mad. I guess were not 100% kids anymore."
--C. J., 12

"I think the toughest part of puberty is definitely the hair. Sooo annoying! However, I haven't gotten my period yet."

But I need someone to tell me about when I am going to get my period or about stages of getting your periods. Okay? So please help me! Thanks."
--Embarrassed to say, 11

"My mom Got her Period at the age of 12 and 1/2 and that is how old I am now and I am wondering should I wear a pad or a tampon?"
--JJ, 11

"Hi! Even though I'm only 10 years old, I can tell you A LOT about puberty. It's a natural thing for girls AND boys. We mostly think girls only get it, because they sprout hair, and boobs. But guys have it to. And if you have pimples...They'll go away if you use the right stuff. I'm here as an advice giver. And I'll tell you a few of my experiences too. When you start growing breasts, they usually start hurting or itching. Now, don't be obsessed with them. You have to WAIT for them to grow. Guys sprout armpit hair, and they also change voices. A period is a scary thing to experience, but it's natural. I won't go through the statistics. It would be better to ask you mom or local doctor about it. Friends are good things to confide in. They can share their experiences, and they can tell you things you MIGHT want to know. Let me share some of MY experiences. I do not wear a bra yet, but am growing breasts. If I bump them, they hurt. And of course, I have hair. You already know where, but I'm not going to mention. Periods can happen any time to me. I'm scared, and I'm sure you are to. But, really, it's nothing to be scared of! Of course you're probably saying NO WAY! IT'S AWFUL! But, it'll happen one day. So will driving, a husband or wife (optional! ) and many other body parts. I love you all, and hope you have a great experience with all of this! Handle it well!"
--Anna, 10

"Yo dudes calm down! Lol. I got mine when I was at the movies with friends but I didn't know until I got home and I was scared but I just went and told my mom but she just says it's cool your now a lady! So don't worry I only got mine in the summer& I'm 13. So if ur under my age Dw lol You'll be fine =D xx."

--D0t123, 11

"Shamane, 12, Because when we are first born we look the same. Just a little helpless baby. But as we grow, we need to have a reproduction system. So we can reproduce. MAKE BABIES! So our bodies change. Was that a good example?"

"Why do girls get breasts?"
--Nia, 10

"It's embarrassing and weird but I normally play soccer or my electric bass guitar to get my mind off of it."
--Eamon, 12

"Well there are a lot of tough parts of going through puberty. What hate is how sometimes you can get into anger problems with your friends just because of hormones. Sometimes you just have to deal with it. It's just apart of growing up, no matter what."
--Abby, 11

"Can anyone predict when I will get my period? Discharge-When I really started noticing it was April of last year maybe a little before about March? Breast-Since the same time (Left is much larger than right! ). Hair-Started shaving 2 weeks ago on legs, no underarm hair, some pubic hair for about 2-3 months maybe a little longer. Age-11 (mom started...At age like 13 or 14 I think. Not sure though)."

"I have tender breasts. What do I do?"--Alexas, 10. It's natural! All girls feel that in puberty! 1 of mine is like that and the other is sore, OUCH! Some girls have really sore breasts so hope for the better!"

"'How come we have puberty? '--Shamane, 12. Here is 1 part! Why do we even need breasts, anyway? Growing breasts are a major part of puberty because it means your reproductive system is starting to work. Just like getting your period is meant to allow you to someday have a baby, a girl's breasts are meant to make milk that the baby will need to survive. I'll write on the period soon!"
--D0t123, 11

"I don't know what to do. My voice has changed, and I have been needing bigger bras, and I have weird feelings about boys. What should I do?" --NONAME!, 11. That's all natural! Some girls have a change in voice!"
--D0t123, 11

"The toughest part is definitely my friends. All of them except me and one other of my friends have had it and they have their own inside jokes and everything. Help me!"
--Jen, 13

"Not that I want breasts, I want to know if there's something wrong with me. I'm eleven and I don't have any breasts. All my friends (who are my age) have them. Is something wrong with me?"

--Halee, 12

"I skipped one grade, so all of my friends and classmates matured before me. I was always waiting for the day I would fit in. I was worried after listening to what they told me. Sometimes, I felt left out when they compared period deterrent strategies and bra sizes, but in the long run, it all worked out. One day, I know that we will al be older and probably close to the same time in the maturation process. ` (o. O) `."
--Kelly, 12

"I would have to say my period I have a story about my experiences. I was with a boy and I was wearing blue jeans and I got my period and I said I have to go home and he said why and he looked down and said ok."
