Teaching with How Old is This House?
This game requires students to compare the clues in the Codebreaker with the features in the house and figure out when it was built. After playing the game, have your students use the skills that they have learned to identify houses from a time period that you are studying. Give your students clues similar to those in the Codebreaker for the time period and/or geographical area that you are studying. Then show them pictures of houses with obvious architectural features and ask them to identify the one or ones that match the time or area. You may wish to use the Detective Notebook for this. This game uses the same skills as Guess the Year.
