Help

Age range: 3-6

Theme Area: Working Together

Related Episode: Hand in Hand

Subjects/Skills: Problem Solving; Social Skills

Materials Needed:
Construction paper
Cardboard box, such as a shoe box

Directions:
Invite your child and a friend or sibling to play a game together. Let them know that just like Max and Emmy, they're going to get "stuck" hand-in-hand when they play the game.

Before you begin, cut 10 "coins" from construction paper (circles approximately 5" in diameter.) Make a "bank" from a cardboard box, such as a shoe box, and cut a slot into the top that the coins will fit through.

Hide the coins around your yard, or in a room in your home. Tell the children that it is their mission to find all 10 coins and to put them in the bank. They will have to keep holding hands while they work.

Encourage them to talk things out and negotiate as they search. You can ask questions to help them do this, such as, "Where will you two search first? Who is going to grab the coin?"

When they've finished finding all the coins, congratulate them for a job well done.
