• clear jar with a cap
• salt
• marble
• a chocolate chip
• a die

1. Put the marble into the jar.
2. Add salt to the jar, until it is about half full. Put on the cap.
3. Try to get the marble to the top of the jar. It's not so easy!
4. Gently shake the jar vertically. Watch the marble float to the top.
5. Does the same thing happen if you use a chocolate chip instead of a marble? How about a die?

What did the marble do when you gently shook the jar?

It floated to the top.
It sunk to the bottom.
It moved to the middle.
