I noticed that the smallest whirligig (the one with the smallest body and wings) spun around faster than any other whiligig I made.

We did the experiment as a class. Our results were that the mass matters more than the size. Lightweight paper keeps it up in the air longer. Our teacher made a big one out of heavy paper, but our winner (the one that landed last) was one of the smallest and lightest.

Hi,ther. My whirligigs were made from two different papers, one was heavier, the other was lighter. The heavier one fell faster, even though it had wider propellors. We think the weight of the paper was more important than the size of the propeller.

To test which would come down the slowest my mom and I made helicopters out of the same size paper but with wider or skinnier blades. The once with the widest blades came down the slowest.

When you drop it, it acts like a helicopter and if you've seen one you know the blades are wide, so the wider the blades- the slower it falls. P.S. Imagine how slow it would be if they made the world's biggest whirligig.
