Instead of using the syrup we used ocean water, and motor oil, the grape floated on the bottom of the oil but sank to the bottom after a while, the two corks, one floated on top of the oil, the other sank into the ocean water

Mostly, making the water warmer decreases the density, and making it colder
increases the density. The only exception is near the freezing point, where
making the water colder makes it a little less dense.
