I did the experiment at home in the spring of 07' with my younger sister moriah. Our testing results came back that the leaf with the petroleum jelly on the top side curled up because it could not breathe. We did this to three other plants as well and the same results were present among the leaves on the plants.

The leaf curled up and died very fast even though the leaf was only in the bag for a day.

The two leaves both curled up.

yes cause on most leaves when they die you can see the little bumps which are called pores!!!!!!!!

Hi! I did an experiment to remove chlorophyll from a leaf, and it stank! The worst thing was, it was for a science fair!:( (Just letting you know for no reason.) {:>

I found out that the leaf that curled up was the one with the jelly on the bottom. This is becuase the spores that a plant uses to breathe are on the bottom of the plant. By putting the jelly on the bottom it clogged up the spores which made the plant die.

I don't thiink it matters if you put it on the top or on the bottem.

DFTV,
We just learned this in Bio. The stomata, pores, are located on the bottom
of the leaf(lower epidermis). On top of the leaf is the cuticle, a waxy coating,
and no stomata.
We did a lab where we took a leaf and coated part of the bottom with clear nail
polish. After the nail polish dried, we placed a piece of packing tape over
the spot with the polish. Then we removed the tape and placed it on a microscope
slide. Under the mic you can see the stomata.
I did not do your "do it" yet, but for the jelly to clog the pores, it must be on the bottom of the leaf.
I really enjoy your show. I watch DFTV while I complete my homework.

I just put uneven amounts on the leafs.
