What are the programs' goals?
Both the Clifford The Big Red Dog and the Clifford's Puppy Days TV series emphasize good citizenship and the importance of community. Through the character of Clifford, whose heart is as big as he is, children absorb gentle lessons about acceptance and inclusion. We think that it's Clifford's "every dog" kindness that has made him a beloved icon with children and parents for more than 39 years. Clifford's stories also demonstrate an important lesson for children, which is that approaching the world with open hearts and minds brings many rewards.

What's Clifford really like?
Well, he's big and red... but you knew that. He's friendly, big-hearted, loyal, fun-loving, and sweet. What makes Clifford tick? The simple things, really. He's a kid at heart, representing our pre-school audience with their hopes, dreams, and fears. His reactions to situations are wide-eyed and innocent, he learns from his mistakes, and he doesn't think twice about standing up for what is right. He thinks like a dog, acts like a dog, smells like a dog—hey! he is a dog!

How old is Emily Elizabeth?
She's eight. Clifford's younger, but he's MUCH bigger!

Is it true that there's buried treasure on Birdwell Island?
Well, we won't say there is, and we won't say there isn't, but some of the Birdwell Island legends say that there is. If you pay a visit to the harbor area and get to know some of the old salts, you're sure to hear a story or two about buried treasure—and you might hear one about the Birdwell Island sea monster, too.

The Birdwell Island Library looks like a boat. Is it really?
Yes, it really is a boat. It's an old ferry, retired from ferry service, but now converted into the library building. Drop by and visit sometime!

Who is the voice of Clifford?
John Ritter was the voice of Clifford for the 65 episodes of the Clifford The Big Red Dog TV series. (For more details, please see our special article Remembering a Good Friend: A Tribute to John Ritter.) Lara J Miller provides the voice of Clifford for the Clifford's Puppy Days series. Clifford The Big Red Dog will continue to air on PBS KIDS along with Clifford's Puppy Days. On this site, you can go behind the scenes and meet the other talented actors who portray your favorite animated characters from both series.

How did Clifford get so big? And how did the doggie snacks and doggie bones get so big?
Clifford began as the runt of the litter, but he was raised on Emily Elizabeth's love, which is chock full of secret ingredients. The Doggie Doodle company makes the huge doggie snacks that Clifford enjoys, but they're not available in any store. Those enormous bones that Clifford finds may be prehistoric leftovers, from a time when dinosaurs roamed the earth.

Where can I purchase Clifford videos & books?
Books are available now in bookstores everywhere. Clifford videos and DVD's can also be found in video stores nationwide. Also look for party goods, children's clothing, and home and school accessories at home goods retailers near you.
