Clifford's Idea to Grow On: Be TruthfulClifford's Idea to Grow On: Be Truthful

Some of the best learning situations for children come by interacting with other children during playtime. This setting often gives children the freedom and opportunity to express their true feelings...and that's important! The following activities nurture:

  • physical and motor skills
  • music and art appreciation and performance skills
  • cognitive skills

Just the Two of Us!Just the Two of Us!

Snowy, blustery days present great opportunities to stay cozy indoors and enjoy time with your child. Encourage your child to express honest feelings, likes and dislikes, about snow and winter and anything else that might need discussing...like which one of these tummy warming treats should be whipped up right now!

  • Hot chocolate with marshmallows
  • Baked cookies, muffins, or cheese toast
  • Warm soup with crackers
  • Spiced cider with cinnamon

Not the right season? No problem. Just substitute the wintertime discussion and treat ideas with a summertime theme!

With a Group:
This fun musical game will excite everyone to listen and move about! Movements can be made on a mat, or as a group. Practice moving to the phrase "Walk, run, crawl, jump!" Encourage children to be good listeners. To begin, play slow music and move through the motions. Increase the tempo of the music. When the music gets too fast for the children to keep up with, shout "freeze!" before giving the final command for everyone to "all fall down!"

Bean Bag Snowman!Bean Bag Snowman!

With a Group:
Involve entire group in tracing, cutting out, and coloring life-size cardboard snowman. Hang or stand up the snowman by securing to art easel. Cut two holes -- one for the mouth and one for the belly. Determine how many points successfully tossing bean bag through each hole will earn. Fun rewards like treats, art, or free time with some musical instruments will make this competition a wintertime winner!
