Big Idea: Have Respect
There are many creative and fun ways for children to experience the joy that comes from helping others by performing acts of kindness. The following activities nurture:
- social and emotional skills
- reading and language
- creative expression
Good Deed Surprise!
Materials: toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, mouthwash
Materials: Homemade "Secret Good Deed" door tags or cards
Take time to share why it's important to help others as you create "Good Deed" tags or cards. Help your child think of someone special that needs a helping hand and put your plan into action to surprise them with a good deed. It might be feeding a pet, sweeping a porch or changing a light bulb for someone elderly. After the good deed is performed, place the tag/card for that person to discover.
With a Group:
Have a brainstorming session with children, listing special people or places in the community that are in need of a good deed. Break into small groups accompanied by an adult and work together to perform good deeds!
