Empanadas |
|
EmpanadasAn empanada is similar to a turnover. Empanadas are traditionally stuffed with fillings, such as meats and cheeses or fruit, and are then deep-fried. Adapt this traditional dish by baking the empanadas instead. Have each child press a plastic lid onto a pie crust sheet to cut out a circle. Place the circle on a cookie sheet sprayed with nonstick spray. Then place a heaping tablespoon of cooked, spiced ground meat and shredded cheese or fruit pie filling in the center of the circle. Fold the circle over and press the edges together to seal them. Bake the empanadas at 400° until lightly browned. Fruit-filled empanadas are great sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. Allow empanadas to cool before serving.
