Illustration of fry bread

Traditional Indian fry bread is a flat bread. There are many different ways to make it, but it can be very simple: flour, water, salt, and baking powder. Mix it all together into a dough, fry it, and you have fry bread!

Illustration of a prairie dog

A prairie dog is not a dog at all, but a rodent, like a squirrel. They live in burrows, or holes, in the plains areas of the midwestern U.S. Prairie dogs are very social animals, and live in "towns" with other prairie dogs.

Flag of South Dakota

The seal in the middle of the South Dakota state flag includes mountains, farms, a river, and a farmer plowing his field. Surrounding that are the words "South Dakota: the Mount Rushmore State," since Mount Rushmore is in South Dakota.

Shape of South Dakota

The shape of South Dakota looks like a slice of ham. Or a slice of cheese. Or maybe a slice of bread. Hmm... maybe I should eat lunch now.
