Magic Carpet
Episode # 163. Unwinding Carpet
In a tall, cylindrical box, the children give the Storypeople a carpet. What will happen if Brother and Sister step on the carpet? They run and dance from end to end, from near to far and back again. Then the children make the carpet so long they can't even see the end. While Brother and Sister take off to find the other end, Little Dog Fido comes along. He brings them back and the carpet magically rolls up behind them.

Directions
In the program, Brother and Sister dance on a magic carpet. You can make your own magic carpet to share with your child. Start with a throw rug or carpet remnant that is big enough for you both to dance on. Using colored tape, make arrows pointing off the corners and sides of the rug.

At playtime, roll the rug out, making sure that it cannot slip. Put on your favorite music and dance with your child.

At the end of the dance session, let your child pick an arrow and together, weave an imaginary tale of what you would discover if you followed that arrow. If you wish, you could even hide a clue under each arrow that your child could uncover that would indicate where your adventure would take place (e.g., a picture of a tree might indicate a forest, a bright sun and wave might indicate a beach, etc.)

Talk About It
While viewing the Unwinding Carpet episode, you might start a conversation by asking your child: "What do you think will happen when they step on the carpet?" or "Where do you think the carpet will lead them?"

As you talk about the things on screen, you can help expand your child's vocabulary by alternating the words you use with their synonyms. In the Unwinding Carpet episode you might call the gift a carpet, rug, or runner.
