Episode # 162. Flying Fish
In a short, cylinder-shaped box, the children give the Storypeople a flying fish. Mrs. Lady, Brother and Sister hear a splash in the water, but every time they turn to look, the fish is back in the water. When they look before the splash sound, they finally see the fish. To help them keep better track of the fish, the children give the Storypeople a small pond. The fish swims happily in the pond for a little while, but then jumps back to the ocean. Goodbye.

Directions
Give your child a chance to practice sequencing by photocopying the pages of her favorite storybook. The book needs to tell a story and a short book will work best.

Present the photocopied pages to your child in mixed up order and make a game of putting them in the correct order. Help her see that some actions don't make sense unless other things happen first (e.g., in Goldilocks, it wouldn't make much sense for the bears to discover Goldilocks before she tasted their porridge). If your child needs some help, have her divide the pages into three piles: beginning, middle, end.

Once your child demonstrates comprehension of sequencing and can put the pages in the correct order, make a silly story by mixing up the pages and reading them aloud in the incorrect order.

* IMPORTANT: to avoid copyright infringement this activity is only for home use by parents.

Talk About It
While viewing the Flying Fish episode, you might start a conversation by asking your child: "What would you do with such a special fish?" or "How would you make sure you saw the fish jump?"

As you talk about the things on screen, you can help expand your child's vocabulary by alternating the words you use with their synonyms.
