Sticky Hunt
Episode # 144. Sticky Wrapper
In a tall, cylinder-shaped box, the children give the Storypeople a large lollipop. Grandmamma unwraps the lollipop but can’t get the stick wrapper off of her hands. Grandpappa tries to help, but his hands stick to the paper, too. Finally, Little Dog Fido comes to the rescue. With a mighty tug, he pulls away the wrapper. Now who will get to eat the lollipop? Better divide it in two.

Directions
Designate a day as “Sticky Day”. As you and your child go through your normal routine, have him point out everything he sees that is sticky. If you don’t mind cleaning hands frequently, he could even touch the sticky things to test their stickiness. As he notices sticky things, you can talk about how hard it can be to get un-sticky (just like in Storyworld), so it is important to wash up after getting sticky and before touching other things.

Help your child keep a written list of everything he finds that is sticky. (Examples might include food items such as honey or peanut butter, the baby’s hands after eating, your hands after peeling an orange, glue used in an art project, post-it notes, an envelope, etc.). At the end of the day, review everything on the list. After supper, you might celebrate a job well done with a sticky treat!

As a follow up to your sticky day, you might want to do a day where you eat lots of sticky foods. Let your child, who is now an “expert” in stickiness, help plan the menu.

Talk About It
While viewing the Sticky Wrapper episode, you might start a conversation by asking your child: “If you had a wrapper stuck to you, how would you get it off?” or “How many licks do you think it would take to finish a lollipop that was a tall as you are?”

As you talk about the things on screen, you can help expand your child’s vocabulary by alternating the words you use with their synonyms. In the Sticky Wrapper episode you might say that Grandmamma is unwrapping or opening the lollipop.
